Valetta isn't just Malta's capital, but a UNESCO world heritage site. It's a window on a world of history and culture, it's the ideal starting point for an idyllic and deeply satisfying holiday experience. Given all of that, why would you entrust your accommodation to anything but the best that the region has to offer?
The five star Grand Hotel Excelsior with its prestigious location (just a couple of minutes walk from the gates of Valetta) and its astonishing views across Marsamxett Harbour and Manoel Island is as much a draw as Valetta itself.
Guests of the Grand Hotel Excelsior are treated to the best of everything: wonderfully comfortable, tastefully appointed rooms, exemplary spa and leisure facilities, and renowned cuisine at its Stellar Valletta Restaurant (one of three restaurant choices). This is, in every sense, a five-star facility.
You will find your room comfortably spacious with enough room for a king-sized bed (or twin beds). Deluxe Partial Seaview rooms and Deluxe Seafront rooms are also available at a premium, but each and every room boasts a large, well-equipped bathroom with a bath and/or seperate shower and all sorts of facilities including satellite TV with additional paid channels, as well as a mini bar, direct dial phone and tea and coffee making facilities.
Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the hotel, and reassuringly, reception is manned twenty-four hours a day. As you would expect from a hotel of this quality, nothing is too much trouble for the staff to ensure your comfortable stay. You can take your pick of the indoor and outdoor pools, we'd certainly recommend a visit to the hotel beauty centre too.
Rich in the history of Malta, Valetta is a fascinating holiday destination. And when you stay at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, you're perfectly placed to make the most of the experience. Revel in the trip and make the most of the magical experience.

When we arrived we were told check-in was not until 3pm and to leave our suitcase in the lobby where it would be placed in a safe room so we could have a look around. If they ask you to do this I would strongly suggest you refuse as when our cases where brought to the room, we were told the wheels don’t work on one of the suitcases on inspection the case was smashed in the corner, when we went to receptionist this was brushed off and denied any responsibility, when ask for cctv they said it did not work and was grey and fuzzy, I have never felt so disgusted at the service from staff at this hotel. If you want a drink I would suggest don’t go in the lobby bar as the service is slow to none existent it’s quicker to walk up to Valletta to get a drink.
Great location by the water. Hotel puts on a shuttle to the centre every 20 mins as it is a short but steep walk to the centre. Buffet breakfast excellent and staff were as well . Hotel slightly dated but that is part of the charm . Great pool area and always had beds available .
The location of hotel was fantastic we had bay views couldn’t beat it, The hotel had a good Atmosphere over all , Rooms were great size great view, Overall Value was good but meals & Drinks a bit expensive, also menus need to be made clearer what’s available on night time and prices. Cleanliness was good over all . Noise level was good had one bad night but not down to them as a rave going on in castle opposite. Some of the services could be better but breakfast tables not cleared & replaced very quickly. Pool staff need to clean around pool better tables needed cleaning & sunbeds need replacing with better as a lot where breaking looked dirty, pool waiters blanket you a fair bit but not always & to clear things away more. Why was rules around pool different to American’s than the rest of us allowing glass bottles lots of them be around pool while they drinking heavily also eating in the pool. Also needs to be clear if you can smoke around pool & on your balcony as people where. We was in room 424 and people next door where using a glass as an ashtray yesterday evening & first thing this morning 10/08/26 room 423. Was nice to have a big pool with great back drop, how ever shallow end was very slippery saw more than one person have a heavy fall getting in needs some sort of grip tap putting on steps in. But overall had a great stay.
Beautiful hotel. Ideal location -,close to bus station and Valletta's Triton fountain. Restaurants have fabulous views. One restaurant at harbour side where you get great sunset views. Nice pool with plenty of sun beds. Room was spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge which was useful. Staff were polite, friendly and professional at all times. Shuttle bus up to Triton Fountain was appreciated as the weather was so hot. It is easily walkable but there are steps to negotiate and when it’s hot that can be tiring. Coming back downhill is not so bad.:5 minutes away from the bus station where you can get a bus to almost anywhere on the island. 2.50 euros takes you anywhere.
Lovely hotel with great staff, good service and surprisingly very reasonable prices for food and drinks. Every meal we had was very good and portion sizes were huge, try the Rigatoni as a starter, it is more like a main. Rooms great on floor 4, shade in the morning and blistering sun in the afternoon, Aircon was a blessing. This hotel was a great experience from start to finish, get to know the staff and interact with them, they will look after you. We will be back!
