Excellent location and comfortable room
Very comfortable hotel with good amenities (swimming pool, gym) and a beautiful outlook. We had a sea view with balcony and it was spacious and comfortable, though furnishings were a little tired. There was an issue with our bathroom (water leak from above) but it was speedily resolved and the staff were very helpful.
As other reviews have mentioned, there are a lot of stairs to descent to get to the hotel entrance (and more importantly, to ascend to get out!) but this was not a problem for us. I can see that this access would be uncomfortable in hotter times of year, and very inconvenient or impossible for people with mobility problems.
Would happily stay here again.
Large hotel in a beautiful setting
The hotel is large & beautiful, set in a convenient location. We reached the hotel at 8pm, and our check in was smooth. We changed our room from a double bed on 3rd floor to a twin bed on the 5th floor because of better views. On our request, the 2 beds were put together and the room rearranged accordingly. At night when we tried the hot water tap in the sink, there was no hot water. After we complained, they promised to send somebody soon but it was a while before the engineer turned up. As it was a big job, by the time the engineer finished, it was well past midnight and we were exhausted. The air conditioner in the room was not great so we could not sleep very well. Next morning we were very tired and complained again. So an engineer was eventually sent up and the issue resolved. From that point onwards, we really enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The room was large with the balcony facing the swimming pool and harbour. The bed was comfortable and the room had all necessity amenities. There was a lot of storage space and a large writing table and a mini fridge. We got complimentary water bottles every day and the housekeeping staff were kind enough to give us two or three more, when required. The breakfasting area was huge and the breakfast spread was quite good but having the same food for 6 days became boring after day 3. As my wife is vegetarian, we thought it would have been better. if they had more hot vegetarian choices. The breakfast staff were really nice and we got a window table on 4 days. The steps from the hotel to the main road may be difficult for people with mobility issues but the road from the hotel to the main road is quite easy and is just a minute longer. My wife used the spa and did not have a good experience. Firstly the spa is just a sauna at a steam room with rooms for massages. My wife tried a summer treatment which she did not enjoy as the body exfoliation, which was meant to be for 30 minutes, was done for less than 10 minutes and the massage was not enjoyable either. On our final day, after checking out, my wife mentioned this experience to the guest relationship staff, Abir, who very kindly offered one drink and one complimentary burger for each of us as a goodwill gesture. She was very professional, polite and very helpful and does need a special mentioning. We used the hotels taxi for airport transfer and would definitely recommend that. On the whole we had a positive experience in the hotel, mainly because of their staff. We were there for 6 nights and would recommend staying here.
Great service, staff and location.
Very comfortable with super views over harbour. Staff were excellent and location is outstanding with easy access on foot to historic Valletta plus to ferry and bus station. Breakfast deal well worth it and pools indoor and out make a great spot to stay.
Lovely hotel very central to Valletta
We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Decor elegant - maybe a little dated but don’t let that put you off. The atmosphere and service in the hotel was fabulous. It was relaxing - yet staff were friendly and in hand to help. There are lovely large lounge areas to sit and relax with a drink , snack. We used room service several times which was extremely good value for money and an excellent service. The room was immaculately clean. Even had “ turn down” service in the evenings as well as room cleaned every day , fresh towels etc. Although the hotel was busy we had no issues with noise and slept brilliantly as the huge bed was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was very varied with a huge range of choice , including freshly cooked omelettes etc. meats, cheeses, cereals, good selection of breads. Cooked breakfasts - fruits and yogurts. The hotel is just a short walk from the centre of Valletta so perfect . Thank you to all the staff for such a welcoming stay. Would definitely recommend.
Second visit
We visited this hotel for the first time in 2016 and really enjoyed our stay so it was an easy choice for our return trip this time. The hotel is a perfect location for walking into Valletta on an evening to enjoy the many attractions. The decor of the hotel is like an opulent, grand, turn of the century stately home. Some reviews have mentioned that it is dark but that is the design and I am sure there are stark , modern hotels to choose if you wish to find them. It is immaculate throughout, although the front of the building could do with freshening up. The staff -whatever their position- were fantastic. Super courteous and helpful. They worked with a smile on their face at all times. We ate in the hotel restaurant once and in the bar once and found the food to be good quality and tasty. Breakfast was also delicious and varied. Plates could be warmer though. The room was huge and had everything we could want. The small, cheap hairdryer could be upgraded I think. All in all we found the hotel excellent value for money, very comfortable and would certainly recommend
