The Phoenicia Malta

TripAdvisor Review
Malta and Gozo, Europe
Valletta

The finest hotels around the world – like the The Phoenicia Malta near Valetta – have all earned their reputation over time. Indeed, the Phoenicia Hotel tends to make such an impression on its guests that they keep coming back.

As soon as you arrive at the impressive entranceway with its pillared entrance and portico, you'll see just how special the Phoenicia Hotel is. Absolutely in keeping with the traditional grandeur of the capital city, Valetta, it is a wonderful venue from which to really come to appreciate the very best that Malta has to offer.

Five-star style and luxurious living at Valetta's The Phoenicia:

The Phoenicia Malta's 1920's design aesthetic is a welcome breath of fresh air – richly and comfortably furnished and full of beautiful details. It's grand but very accessible – the thickly upholstered plush chairs are there to be sat on, for example.

Working in such a grand interior, the Phoenicia Malta staff have to work hard to ensure that the service they offer matches up. That the level of service here is consistently impeccable is a testament to them – and a big factor in bringing so many people back here year after year.

The large, air-conditioned rooms (both twin and double) are comfortably appointed and feature cable TV, radio, telephone, safe and minibar. Gorgeous harbour view rooms are also available, at a supplement. Whichever room you choose, you'll relish its cool, spacious, tranquil feel – the perfect place to unwind at the end of every day.

As one would expect of a hotel of this stature, the amenities are similarly excellent. There are beautiful swimming pools, there are wonderful choices to be made in the hotel's two à la carte restaurants; there is even a hotel jewellery shop. (And of course, there's an excellent gym.) To top it all off, the Phoenicia Hotel is set in seven acres of landscaped gardens.

The happy combination of its distinctive design and exceptional service means that the Phoenicia Malta richly deserves every one of its five stars. That it's a convenient gateway for Valetta almost makes you wish you could give it a sixth star!

Bridal suite & wedding night delight

Review by KatrinaB943 Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka

I recently got married in Malta, and given I knew I'd have a large entourage and bridal party we decided to choose the bridal suite.

Our rooms were simply stunning. And extremely comfortable...

Our views from the 5 windows in our suite were breathtaking. The Triton fountain and Valletta fortifications, to the Grand Harbour, and Floriana.

But what sets the Phoenicia apart by miles, is the service. Nothing whatsoever was too much trouble. From the extra tea cup, champagne bucket, to the exemplary loan of 20 towels and umbrellas to take to our wedding venue, just in case the torrential downpour had affected our wedding venue. Luckily these were not needed, but the fact that they went the extra mile and then a marathon amount further to help us out.

Delighted with the Phoenicia and the swtaff.

A haven and a heaven

Review by JonnyVonStovner Oslo, Norway

After fleeing the burdens of Sliema, The Phoenician Malta turned out to be not only a safe haven, but also a heaven on earth. .   A staff that went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible, the breakfast,s the pool area, the garden, the restaurants, the Club Bar, etc...

So quiet, so peaceful, so beautiful, and such a spectacular experience. Thank you!   A special thanks to Ivan in The Club Bar, for the best Whisky Sour and Aperol Spritz ever, and for sharing your lessons in life, drinks and love.   We will be back!

Lovely Hotel

Review by elizabethjills Eaglescliffe, United Kingdom

Stayed a week in this lovely hotel. Room was spotlessly clean and serviced twice a day. Great view from the pool area...

Convenient location, easy walk into Valletta. Huge choice for breakfast, either buffet or from the menu. Friendly and attentive staff throughout.

Pure class

Review by mikeyb72 Orpington, United Kingdom

We pushed the boat out on this one and was it worth it , I’ll answer shortly. We have stayed in a few of Maltas t stars . Kempinski Gozo -loved it. Hilton St Julian’s -loved it...

Radisson golden bay- hated it. Excelsior Grand- loved it. So how did the Phoenician compare. Well, it’s pure class and just ended the rest out . Don’t get me wrong , all of the others that I like d are all better value for money but this has the -restive and heritage along with amazing service and finesse to warrant a short stay. We stayed in room 119 which had a balcony and an amazing view over the gardens and across to Selima . The staff were attentive, professional and incredible friendly. The pool, whilst small has a fantastic view and there’s a chance of bumping into A list celebs with Russel Crowe apparently attending 1o fays earlier Loved it , been back 8 hours and I miss it

Wonderfully welcoming !

Review by Johntuck12 Crawley, United Kingdom

Our holiday stay at the Phoenicia was a delight. The facilities were wonderful, the breakfasts superb, and the desserts divine . But what really makes this lovely hotel is the welcoming staff, always with a smile and a greeting, and able to meet all requests...

Whether opening the door for you on entering the hotel, however bedraggled , providing chocolates, refreshing the most welcome cool drinks in the fridge, everything is done with good humour and courtesy. All with a human touch as well - there was nothing remotely mechanistic about the superb service. The pool and gardens also have to be the chillest place in the city to unwind.

Thank you so much !
