I stayed in the Monica Isabel Beach Club from September 19 until 27th, and I quite enjoyed it. The resort has its own beach which can be accessed from the backside of the main building (the only shame was that in the days me and my friend stayed, the sea was off limits because apparently it was unsafe to seim because of hygienic reasons... thank goodness that we had rented a car and could go to other beaches!) The pool is not too exciting, temperate water which was cold at times, and the sun loungers were quite uncomfortable...
Also, the pool would need a renovation... Our room was very big and had many things one usually doesn’t have: a stove, a microwave, a fridge and a freezer (careful: freezer compartment is very very small), as well as drinking glasses, forks, knives and spoons. Except for the fact that only two of four stove plates worked and that the fridge gave off water the first four days, I must say I enjoyed the stay rather because I was not in my room too often. It was good enough for the basic use (shower, microwave popcorn for beach days, keep the yogurt cold), but we hadn’t expected the bug surprise which happened on day five... at least I was able to get rid of it the same day it had crawled into my friends suitcase. The personnel’s behavior was not as I had expected! At the reception we had a pretty unwarm wecome, and the staff working at the beach bar really was the last I needed (being friendly is an optional apparently...) In the end, it was worth it, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re too used to all the four-hotel staff in other European conuntries... this rather rural village on the Algarve needs to catch up when it comes to modernity!
I recently arrived at the Monica Isabel to be told that all facilities including the outdoor/indoor pool and gym was shut, as from the day after we arrived????? We had no explanation and when I asked about another sister hotel we could possibly be transferred to I was told I needed to speak to The company I booked with, which was Loveholiday.com has I did not book direct to them.
I asked why they were still advertising the hotel and all facilities and not closed if they couldn’t provide what they were advertising (I only booked the holiday 7 weeks before) again no explanation only to speak with my booking company and that the hotel had emailed them about the hotel closing, 48 hours ago, again I had not been informed ?
I always book my holiday knowing the facilities are available like a pool, shop and restaurant for convenience, to arrive and all this was closed the day after we arrived was appalling. If we just wanted a basic room we would have booked a cheaper apartment the only positive was we were almost on the beach and the view was pleasant.
Very disappointed, I love Portugal but won’t go back here again.
we came in the evening, it was dark! it was terrible to find our appartment with a poor map we got from the reception, up hill with our suitcases. after wandering wrong a few times we found our appartment, stairs up, stairs down. The appartment was big, very basic...
but we had a nice big balconi and a very beautiful view. It was clean and the came everyday to clean the room, we stayes 8 nights, but they have never clean the sheets. There was a cooking unit and a refregiator, pans and plates. The beds are really hard, so we did not sleep very well. The beach was only 2 minutes from our appartment and at the beachclub we got 10% discount on our orders. There were sunbeds on the beach that you can rent, 2 beds and aparasol for 10 euro per day- 10% discount . We had a very nice stay and we recomment when you are not fuzzy about the outdated rooms.
We stayed here for a week in September. After reading reviews we was a bit apprehensive but we had a lovely stay. The hotel was clean and tidy...
Staff were helpful. It is a bit tired in places but nothing a bit of decorating wouldn’t fix. We had a studio in the main building and it was very good size, big balcony. Kitchen had microwave, kettle, oven, grill and hob which was really good. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. We did get ants one day but this was due to my partner leaving a half full can of Fanta on the side, after we removed this no more ants. The pool was lovely, nice temperature and the loungers were spaced apart well. The pool bar was reasonable, did toasties in the daytime and drinks. However there is also a beach bar about 30 secs from the pool which serves a wider variety of food and ice creams. You get 10% off the beach bar aswell if you are a guest at the hotel, so burger and chips was 4.50 which I thought was quite reasonable. The hotel is literally on the beach, they have sunbeds on the beach which you get discount on aswell. The strip is about a 15 min walk from the hotel and the old town is a 15 min walk along the beach away. A cab back from the old town was approx 4.70 which we tended to do on the way home. There are a couple of shops near the hotel and a couple of bars. I would definitely stay here again!
Have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel with my husband and son and his girlfriend. We booked two double rooms and were a bit apprehensive having read some of the reviews. I did request sea views after booking and when we got our rooms which were studios in the main hotel building one did not have a pleasant view...
However, we mentioned this to reception and they offered us the choice of other accommodation in block M which did have a view but was not to the standard of the rooms in the main hotel so we declined. Studios were spacious bright and clean. Kitchen and bathrooms could do with updating but were adequate. Cleaning was daily and thorough. Used the pool which was good. Did not have board but used the beach bar a couple of times and that was ok. Used the hotel as a base and location is great. Beach excellent and within walking distance of both old and new town.
One night my son and his girlfriend arrived back in early hours to find studio (209) completely flooded. They were moved to another room for the night. In the morning reception advised cause of the flood was not known and studio had been cleaned and they could move back. They were not happy with this and were concerned about where the flooding had come from and possible contamination. Also some clothes had been on the floor as was their beach bag and so these needed to be laundered. Initially they refused to do this but then agreed to wash everything and returned it next day. They were offered the room they had been located to overnight but this was in a bad location and so was refused. They were then given an upgrade to room 606, a duplex apartment with fantastic view and extremely spacious. So all in all we were pleased with the response considering this was identified at 2 am.
We felt the accommodation provided good value for money and the location made it for us. All the staff we encountered were polite and efficient. Obviously we did not have all inclusive and facilities were limited because of Covid but it worked for us and we had a great stay.
