Review by Louluoo

Stayed here for 5 days with my mother - we stayed in the 400’s which is in a block furthest away from the main reception building. When leaving our apartment block we had to walk down a hill, into a building, up an elevator, through another building, then out again just to get to the main road that lead us to the old town, and the strip. The other alternative was to walk downhill, round the bend and up a steep hill which wasn’t ideal - felt that offers of a golf buggy ride would’ve been sufficient...

Upon arrival the staff weren’t exactly nice, but they weren’t rude - they just didn’t seem to welcome us or want to give us information on the hotel.

The room itself was nice - the beds were somewhat comfy and the room was clean. The only issues I had with the room is that we had men next door sunbathing right in front of our door as soon as we got there and didn’t understand us when we said we needed to get into the room behind him. The other issue is that upon using the glasses in the cupboard we found one full with water (???) and another with a bug in, and all its eggs. We have a portable stove to use which we didn’t use due to the fact we had no utensils to actually cook with? This wasn’t a huge issue as we planned to eat at restaurants every day. We had housekeeping come in every day, despite us saying we did NOT want housekeeping and even said to the housekeepers that we didn’t want it - we came back to find our room had been cleaned and our beds were made so a total lack of privacy. Another issue is we found that every morning around 7am the Aircon would turn off and it would switch to heating mode which isn’t what you want when it’s 26 degrees outside.

As we weren’t all inclusive, we didn’t actually try any of the food at the hotel as we heard from other guests that it wasn’t so great - we just opted for breakfast at a lovely place called Panacee (the best) and dinner at restaurants elsewhere. We bought drinks from the main bar by the reception, as well as the bar by the pool which was cheap, but I was charged a difference price for the same drink by different staff members?

Upon arrival we were told there were two pools, but we found out there were actually three - two outside and one inside. The inside pool was nice and warm - probably nicer for colder months, but we couldn’t enjoy it fully as there were some inconsiderate guests acting as if they owned it. The main pool that has the bar was nice, despite the signs saying ‘no reserving of sun beds’ we found people laying out their stuff then going off for dinner leaving no room for other guests. The pool itself was nice, however there was a drain on one of the walls that had no cover on - once I accidentally touched it and it suctioned my skin to it. I found this to be very dangerous and reported it but nobody seemed to care. The other pool is quite hidden and nobody seemed to use it despite it being quiet - this was perfect for us to lay and swim leisurely. We also found that these pools were open to the public so anybody could use them if they wished.

The beach is literally a 2 minute walk from the complex and is a lovely quiet area of the beach - however there is a ‘beach bar’ that is advertised with food where you can get a ‘discount’ if you stay at the hotel however we found that they didn’t sell any food at all and only sold basic drinks. You can walk along the beach along the boardwalks into the old town which is far easier than walking the main road.

Overall we would stay here again as it was very cheap for us and had everything we needed, despite a few small issues. I would recommend this place for couples and families as a cheap getaway as you can opt for room only or all inclusive.

Family Holiday in Portugal

Review by brimab2014 Manchester, United Kingdom

We visited the hotel for 6 days. For a 3 star hotel the food was average, the bar staff and all the staff in the restaurant were also very attentive. But everything in the room is outdated, the room needs updating regarding the decorations...

The room service was great as we got our room cleaned and towels replaced everyday. The room 118 we stayed in facing right towards the beach, lovely sea view it was very nice, sandy beach and barely any rocks. The only downside is that the room decoration needs a lot,the hotel building is very very old fashioned, the hotel needs a proper renovation, overall we had a great time.

Short Break

Review by christinea20 Manchester, United Kingdom

Just back from a short break at the Monica Isabel first of all the location is great on arrival our room was not ready and would not be ready till 3 which was disappointing as we were not really prepared for it when we finally got our room it was very big a bit dated but nice the bathroom was really not great I don’t think it had been cleaned properly which again was a bit disappointing. Pools there was one big one then a smaller pool the big pool was very busy so we went round the smaller pool the pools were not great to be honest but the beach was amazing. We went all inclusive which was a bad decision the food was terrible it was freezing it was just awful we had to eat out the drinks were very poor to they all tasted disgusting I had some pizza from the snack bar it was that hard and dry serious it could of broke your teeth...

Entertainment well it was not great I would not return to this hotel as I have stayed in many three star hotels and I really don’t think this deserves a three star rating.

Best location

Review by Discover25555 County Fermanagh, United Kingdom

Just back after a 6 night stay and loved every minute! Location was amazing right on the beach, fantastic views from the beach bar, yes it could do with an update but after the last year not surprised they can’t afford to spend money. My birthday was on one of days and a lovely bottle of fizz was left in the room even though we never said it was a birthday occasion, was a lovely thought. We were on a B&B basis breakfast was fine, lots of food on offer...

Would ask for a sea view room you could hear the waves 24-7 (we had room 404 M block. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Hope to return to this hotel within the next year again, thank you for a lovely break.

Do not recommend

Review by amandanB1202XJ Belfast, United Kingdom

We stayed in Monica Isabel for a week 4 adults & 3 kids. The food was absolutely bouncing (not even eatable) it was stone cold & the same stuff everyday lunch & dinner (no option for kids). The rooms were spacious and a cleaner came everyday to mop floors and make bed but the beds weren’t changed once in a week...

The smell of the corridor was disgusting & just kept getting worse as the week went on. Every single one of us got sick at some point (vomiting) & woke up each morning covered in bites. I have never felt more disgusted. Only pro was its close to the beach & the staff were friendly & helpful.
