A Huge Property

Review by jamesbP2384GV Miami, Florida

I hadn't really done much research on this place; I was expecting a nice luxury hotel. However I realized upon driving in that this place is very large, and along with a hotel the property includes individually owned residences, timeshares, a golf course, lots of pools and restaurants along with a health club, salon, and shops. But the second and better surprise was that the resort is truly on a cliff beneath which (reached by elevator) is a magnificent beach ...

I would have felt more comfortable at a smaller place, but we really enjoyed spending a day walking, swimming, and soaking up sun on the beach. Great views of the red rock cliffs looking from the water back up to the resort.

Beautiful place but overcrowded and chaotic

Review by Relax03821541879 Wolverhampton, United Kingdom

Visited as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) in August 2021 for just 2 nights. The hotel rooms are large and beautifully done and perfect for families - they were also immaculate. The grounds are also lovely and the beach is fantastic but our experience was made less enjoyable because the place felt so chaotic - far from the luxury experience sold...

If you want a sun bed at the pool or beach then be prepared to get up and fight for one at 7.30am. The reception staff were not particularly welcoming and gave very little information on checking in meaning it all felt a little overwhelming as the place is huge. The facilities seem amazing - we did boot camp one morning and that was fab. We only used the restaurants for lunch and they were ok. We would probably not return as prefer a more relaxed holiday.

Beautiful but service is awful

Review by corkcork Galway, Ireland

Can’t fault the Ocean Suites for the bedrooms, the spa, the stunning gardens and views. It’s stunning and the cleaning staff do a great job. Unfortunately, the staff are a real let down...

I feel for them if they are over worked, under staffed but wow they seem to hate their jobs and their guests. Especially Cristina at the concierge desk, I asked her for something she kept her head down, didn’t look at me, rang someone and barked in Portuguese or whatever, slammed down the phone and didn’t speak to me. When I asked her what was happening she looked up really angrily and pointed me to stand over there until I was called. I walked away and dealt with someone else. Just a snapshot of the attitudes. As mentioned by other reviews, food is not great and so over priced. They only get away with it as the resort is far from other restaurants and there’s not a lot of choice.

Bonvoy Platinum elite meant nothing, room was not upgraded and the welcome gift was herbal tea and a tin of sardines - odd.

Not a Luxury Collection experience—avoid

Review by R915CNpaulw Antibes, France

We just spend four days at the Pine Cliff Ocean Suites which is part of the Marriott’s Luxury Collection.

We found the resort to be beautifully landscaped and there were lots of activities including golf, tennis, group sports at the gym, a nice spa, etc.

We also thought that the staff was friendly and accommodating...

The room was comfortable and there was a nice terrace.

Here are the reasons I gave the resort a poor rating:

The resort was very busy as this is peak season. There were not enough sun loungers and we were told to get up early to put our towels on a seat to reserve it. The manager said this is not the way it works here but in reality it is the only way to ensure a chair.

The restaurants were all fully booked. When I arrived on Sunday, the only reservation for the Piri Piri steakhouse was for Friday at 21:00! This was for two guests! The same was true of all the other restaurants. The only option was the all day dining which was often full of small children as it is located next to the pool.

The other problem is when we tried to alert the manager of these issues. I called the front desk several times and was either hung up on or ignored. The manager took two days to finally get ahold of us.

The resort is full of children and there is no adult only outdoor pool or area for those without children.

The room service is all delivered in paper containers and disposable cutlery. It is more like an Uber eats experience rather than what is expected at a luxury resort. They blame it on COVID but this was not the case at other resorts we visited this summer.

The same with the coffee cups and glasses in the room. Plastic or paper only. This is not a matter of COVID as we now know that this is not a means of transmission if all is well washed.

We are very dissatisfied with this experience and would advise guests to stay away until these issues are resolved.

At the time of the check-in the concierge of this 5* hotel informed me that all the 10 restaurants were fully booked for the time of my stay . I should have reserved all the dinners in advance. This is totally NOT acceptable for the so called best resort of Portugal.
