The Local Area

The Rocamar Exclusive Hotel & Spa is located just 20 metres from the beach and is a short walk from the centre of Albufeira which offers a large selection of restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment. Beaches, golf courses and theme parks are within easy reach. The hotel's sun terrace offers excellent views of the long stretch of sandy beach below.

Upside: Fantastic location,great views if you book a room with a sea view. Downside: Staff were very very rude (apart from the cleaners who were lovely) Breakfast was an ordeal and we ended up eating out most mornings. Rooms are dated...

Wrongly rated as 4 stars hotel - WORST SERVICE EVER

This review is not intended for the assumed "owner", Mr. Joao Guerreiro, or the PR of the hotel (if there is any - or know what Public Relationship means), to answer or to continue mistreating us, as he has done it in person, and also in written on previous reviews. Any answer, or should I say abuse, given by this hotel should be used to support this review...

I am a world traveler, very frequent user of different hotels and accommodations and conscious of the differences in cultures, giving reviews and feedback, which in most of the cases are taken in the best way possible or replied with the effort to justify the negative points. I will start with the positive aspects of the hotel:

  1. Excellent location - by the beautiful beach of Albufeira (only stairs or city elevator away) and walking distance from all restaurants, bars and exciting night life offered by this incredible destination. Although close by to the party, it is quiet area.
  2. Sea front rooms have amazing views to the ocean, beaches and part of the town.
  3. Some of the staff at the breakfast area are really hard working people, really trying to do their best, although the lack of training on service is evident. Besides these three topics, there rest is negative as listed here:
  4. Receptionist staff (as well as the rest of the staff) has ZERO training in service, but particularly the receptionist are men that seem to be trained to confuse, mistreat and make feel the guest as receiving a favor. At the time of my arrival, at 11 PM, Mr. Alejandro was smoking outside, he saw us getting out of the car with luggage and he kept smoking, not offering any help with bags to get upstairs, once at the lobby, Mr. Alejandro did not start the check in until finishing his cigarette. We were two couples checking in, for me and my partner, after showing both passports, he indicated that Travelocity made a mistake sending the reservation for one person instead of two, I indicated that the reservation, and the payment were for two people, and I had the proof of the in my cel phone. He continue saying that it was not the hotel's mistake, and that it was travelocity's mistake. For any guests, this should be transparent, so at 11 PM after traveling for hours, this is not the information anybody wants to hear. After I got really nervous due to the situation, Mr. Alejandro started to be rude and asking me to calm down. It was after I told him that I just want to hear that the problem was solved by the hotel, that he indicated so. He should start by saying that there was a problem that was solved, or not saying anything at all. WORST CHECK IN EXPERIENCE.
  5. Hotel has the potential to be a great one, and it seems the renovation has started for some rooms, but definitely not for the rooms at the 4th floor. Everything is from the 80's, including bed covers, furniture, decoration, a/c equipment and bathroom. Lobby and breakfast area are also outdated with cheap and old furniture. Few renovated areas are used to public a 4 stars hotel.
  6. Rooms has no beverages or snacks at all. Actually the small and old refrigerator is unplugged from electricity. There is no coffee or tea machine at the room, or any any public area, that can be used 24 hours. REALLY?? 4 STARS HOTEL ROOM
  7. Some very touristic destinations can have hotels charging for most of the services, being additional, but this hotel takes it to the extreme. Safe security box, drinking water, hot drinking water, any kind of snacks, all have a price and are not 24 hours. Getting at the hotel late at night, you need to bring your own water because there is no way to get one at any price. 4 Stars hotels have at least 24 hours vending machines.
  8. Breakfast is included in the rate. It is a decent breakfast with limited selection for pancakes, breads, eggs sausages and coffee. However, there are no juices at all, only some very bad concentrate beverages, so it is better to drink water. DEFINITELLY NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL BFAST.
  9. Personal presentation of the staff. Besides the lack of training, there is no sense of dressing properly, although all use uniform, they use the uniform in a careless way, even sweaty.
  10. Last but no least, the assumed "Owner", Mr. Joao Guerreiro, he made us very clear that he could do anything he wants with us, even came out with an incorrect statement that we were not following the rules, just because at the time one of my friends asking him a question, while talking his mask uncovered his nose, so Mr Guerreiro refused to continue the conversation indicating that we were out of rules. We used masks all the time as requested, however he was using this argument to tell us that we should just leave the first day, being a contract already paid upfront, we had the right to stay. His answers to previous reviews are far out for any owner or PR of any hotel, mostly if it wants to be listed as 4 stars, which again, this hotel is soooo far from it, mainly because of service. Bottom line, I do not recommend this hotel to anybody, it is expensive for what you receive and it should be downgraded from 4 stars. Albufeira is so worth it for visiting and there are many other options to stay.

Most unfriendly hotel Ive ever stayed in (and I am extremely well travelled

Hotel is generally staffed by older middle aged men who behave like they're doing you a favour. Seem that they have little respect for guests

Let's be clear there is an COVID situation where everyone understands things are different.

But the problem is that the staff at this hotel have sadly developed a hostility (behind their masks) towards guests that makes you feel like you're not welcome

To be fair the barman was okay (maybe because he didn't wear a mask) but breakfast staff were generally horrible to deal with

Arriving in breakfast room, no greeting, no friendliness

Seems the enforcement of a COVID policy has led to bad attitude that has just gone too far

All of our group felt the same way and none of us will be going back

For the record this is certainly not a 'exclusive, luxury hotel'

It's dated, rooms need refurbishment & breakfast is no better than 6 out of 10. Coffee undrinkable, poor & limited choice of breakfast foods, cheap bread

Location is excellent but if it wasn't not many would stay there

Great location & clean hotel

We are currently staying at the hotel. Check in was quick & efficient. The hotel is clean & fresh...

Our room on the 4th floor is great overlooking the (small) pool and beach. The room is quite small but adequate & has a fridge. The location is great for the old town and the beach etc.

Tea / coffee facilities would have been nice in the room & breakfast isn’t great. This may be due to Covid restrictions so I’m not going to be too critical. I personally would just prefer cooked to order eggs & more choice of fresh fruit etc. The coffee is pretty bad.. but perhaps it’s just not my taste! We’ve gone out for breakfast locally instead.
