An Okay Stay
This is our second time to stay at this hotel and it didn’t live up to the same expectations as last time.
The location is great, it’s right on the beach and only a 10 minute walk into town to all the restaurants and bars.
We paid for a Deluxe Sea View room, so we expected to be facing the beach head on, however when we got to our room we were at the side of the hotel and is more like a side sea view room. This did not match our expectations given we had paid more for this room. The room itself felt quite outdated. The only mirror in the room was in the bathroom, there were no mirrors anywhere else in the room so it made it difficult to get ready. The room was cleaned daily and couldn’t complain about those daily cleans however there were chunks gone out of the wall and the shower had black mildew stains which honestly just made the shower look gross. The A/C is not great which isn’t helpful when the weather is so hot.
The pool is great, it’s huge so when it’s busy there’s still plenty of room. The sun loungers are kind of old though and I think they need an upgrade. The pool toilets are not well kept. In the ladies bathroom, one toilet was not in use and the other toilet did not have a lock on the door. I get they’re pool bathrooms but I think they need to be looked after more. On a few occasions there was no toilet paper in there as the day went on.
We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel, but we did have breakfast. The hot food selection was poor and some mornings the food was actually just cold. The pastries were okay, very mediocre though. I can see why people don’t eat dinner at the hotel.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Overall I think the hotel is outdated and needs some renovation.
Relaxing.
This was our first time in Portugal and we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Staying at the Pestana Dom Joao 11 in Alvor. The staff was great!!!! From the cleaning staff to the kitchen staff especially Eshal who took good care of us every dinner time lol. Definitely would return in the future. And by the time we come back hopefully Eshal gets that promotion she deserves 🍷Laura and Daniel at the desk were especially helpful and informative. We will return again.
