Armacao de Pera

The hotel is set in an ideal location, situated on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and offers spectacular panoramic views of Senhora da Rocha Beach, which is sheltered and directly accessible from the hotel. The hotel is a short 3-minute walk from numerous shops, cafés and restaurants. There are plenty of shopping venues, restaurants, bars and nightclubs 1 km from the hotel. Convenient public transport links may be found within 100 metres of the hotel. Faro Airport is at 55 km driving distance. The hotel offers guest rooms with sea or garden views for guests to freshen the day in the morning. All room are well-equipped with modern bathrooms, television with cable channels, air conditioning, hair dryer and mini bar. Guests can dine at two restaurants and a bar. Other facilities include swimming pool, spa, gym and kids club.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Return visit after more than 30 years

Review by Jollyjustina London

My partner and I stayed for a week at the Pestana Viking to celebrate my birthday. I had stayed at the hotel over 30 years ago and wanted to see whether it was the same as I remembered. Obviously, things had changed in 30 years, but the main attraction remained the same - the hotel location and beaches! This hotel is very popular worldwide for weddings because of the location...

On arrival, we were cheerily checked in at reception by Maryanna, who made our entire stay so enjoyable. She and her colleagues on reception are an asset to the hotel. Every query was answered with friendly professionalism and I never felt that they tired of helping guests with their enquiries, no matter how busy they were. We had booked a sea view room, but the view wasn't the same as I had remembered so I asked at reception whether it was possible to have another room with a better view. After hearing that I had stayed there many years ago and that it was my birthday, Maryanna pulled out all the stops to get me an upgrade. I was very happy with the new view from my balcony. The rooms are large and have a little kitchenette in them complete with microwave, kettle, plates, glasses and cutlery. It was unexpected, but was a very welcome surprise. Room cleaning was good, but I did notice that one day, our towels that we had put on the floor to be changed, were hung back up again as if they were new towels. The metal bins in the bathroom looked rusty and were very noisy when opened and closed and the shower screens on the bath were not big enough to stop the water from going all over the floor. The bath was very slippy, despite supposedly having a non slip surface and the location of the safety rail wasn't in the right place for use in the shower, but was adequate for the bath. I wish the showers in the bathrooms were like the rainfall showers they have in the spa area. Lighting and mirrors were great in the bedroom and we had plenty of storage space and electric sockets for charging our gadgets. An iron is available at reception on request. WiFi was very good and accessible throughout the hotel. We stayed at the hotel on a bed and breakfast basis and chose to eat at local restaurants for lunch and dinner so we could get to know the area. The hotel buffet breakfast choice was extensive, but the hot food in the containers was luke warm. Also the little pastries seemed very hard. The spa area was clean and in good condition, with a large, warm swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam/sauna. The gym had vital equipment missing (weights collars) and we reported this to reception. We didn't use the outdoor pool because the water was cold and we didn't like the seagulls that seemed to have taken over the outside area. Beach towels were in the room on top of the safe and can be replenished by asking the reception staff. One of my towels was very threadbare so some attention needs to be paid to the state of the towels, but it was great to have them provided for us to take to the beach which is a stones throw away. I had a wonderful time at Pestana Viking 30 years ago and 30 years on, my stay was no less enjoyable. I would recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. Keep up the good work!

We Can Not Wait To Return!

Review by anatakb Birmingham, United Kingdom

Hotel is around 40/45 mins from Faro Airport. Private transfer was arranged for us direct with the Pestana Viking for our family of 6 @ €78. Service from the transfer company Worldavailable Algarve Transfers was amazing...

Reception area was nice and spacious and very clean. We we’re greeted by Luisa who was amazing - so friendly and helpful whilst we stayed at the Pestana Viking, she is a wonderful asset to The Pestana Viking. Morgana was also very helpful and friendly too. All the staff are brilliant!

Bedrooms - we had 3 Rooms on the 2nd Floor next to each other - Garden View and Partial Sea View. Rooms were so clean, bright hand spacious. To be honest it exceeded our expectations. You have a safe in the room, spacious wardrobes with shelf’s, small kitchenette with sink, spacious Uber counter sink with access to cutlery, glasses and a microwave. Only thing missing from the room was a iron but that was no worry as we had a travel iron.

Breakfast - phenomenal. There is so much choice from fruit - pancakes. The breakfast was so tasty and one thing I always worry about when eating a buffet breakfast is temperature but honestly temperature for the breakfast items was not a problem - remained hot. We enjoyed bar snacks and lunch in the bar area I.e - burgers, pizza, soup etc and enjoyed. The fries are lovely. We did not eat here for the evening Buffett etc. We totally fell in love with the Sangria here @ €20 so full of flavour! We had multiple jugs each day.

Indoor Pool Area/ Sauna and Steam and Jacuzzi - Nice and clean and warm inside. The steam room can get pretty steamy with big burst of steam and the essential oils smell great. If you find the steam room is not steaming please call for assistance. Facilities opened from 8am-8pm.

Outdoor Area - well maintained and plenty of seating, possibly due to the time of year. Access to clean towels is easily obtained from reception.

Near to 3 Beaches - all working very close walking distance which is fab!

Nearby Area - Multiple Restaurants and Supermarket writhing 10 min walking distance from the hotel.

Would we return - 100%! This place is brilliant value for money and in a beautiful location. Staff made us feel so welcome and the rooms were brilliant.

Amazing location but could do with an update

Review by bashamon Portrush, United Kingdom

What an amazing location. The best for miles around. Its a bit jaded but kept spotlessly clean...

Nice spacious room which was very good and nice view of stunning beaches. Stayed on a B&B basis and the food was a good standard (although you had to put your toast through the toaster 4 times to make it like toast). Staff very helpful and cheery. The seagulls are a total menace. They are walking about the pool and sunbathing area and I had to shoo them away from sun bed and bags quite lot. If you left and food on your table it was away. The seagull pok in the pool was off putting. Seagulls frequently washed in the pool and if you went down in the morning there was some considerable slick floating of seagull poo floating yellowish on the water. I never saw it cleaned up and guess that it just got pushed into the filter when people used the pool. I saw one little boy covered in it. I never swam in the outside pool. Bring in a hawk or use some hawk kites please !! The sun beds need replacing as they are getting broken and uncomfortable. There was a bare piece of earh in the middle of the sunbathing area which the local cats used as there toilet. It was never cleared up. On the whole a good place to stay and if you can put up with the seagulls then do stay as the location is awesome and the rooms good. Please do a bit of updating 🙏. I will be back though .

Great location and stunning views

Review by Mealpup Leicestershire

Just spent a week at Pestana Viking and loved it. Perfect location next to the beach with stunning sea views. The nearest beach is accessed via a road at the side of the hotel but when you're bored with that one, move on to the next! There are several beaches a short walk away in beautiful coves...

There are outdoor pools and plenty of sunbeds but the lovely indoor pool was great as the weather was hit and miss during our stay.

Buffet breakfast was good with a large selection to choose from. We had dinner there three times and enjoyed it but there are also some good restaurants within walking distance.

Staff pleasant and polite but I have to sing the praises of the lovely ladies who cleaned our room every day with a smile and a cheery "ola!"

The hotel is a little dated in places and could do with some updating.

Noise seems to travel very easily around the corridors and seemed to be amplified in our room. Some teenage students were staying at the same time and were keen on meeting on the flat roof area below our balcony and playing music very loud. That makes me sound so old! They were just enjoying themselves but at times it made us leave to get away from it. We did inform the staff who spoke to them but it didn't help much.

Good Location, Plenty to do around.

Good location. Said that some hotel services can be improved. For the scale of this hotel, check-in is a slow and painful process. Air-conditioning was not working. I could only imagine what summers be like. Staff and service are impeccable.
