My husband and I recently spent 2 weeks at this property. Two things that really impressed - the kitchen and the shower.
The kitchen appliances - fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer were all Bosch products...
The dishes, glasses, cutlery were all top quality. It was outfitted with every utensil you need.
The shower had strong pressure with hot water almost instantly. No adjustment was needed once you had your preferred temperature.
Others mentioned the large spacious rooms. The only negative is the well worn sofas. Definitely need to be replaced.
A very enjoyable stay.
Nice 2 & 3 bed apartments. Very comfortable and nicely laid out. Air conditioning in every room and works well, especially welcome during the summer months...
Lovely setting with a stream running through the middle of the resort. This was our 3rd stay here. In general it is nice but a few things could be improved especially as it is rated as 5 star accommodation.
The review below takes into account that we stayed here during a pandemic, in August and it seemed the hotel had just been sold and was changing hands. So I do make some allowances for the above.
Initially we booked a 3 bed villa (their highest property) for 2 weeks. We really liked it so much that we extended for another week...
The villas are extremely large, very nice, with their own pool and nice grounds. They are quiet and you really get to relax.
I can’t comment for the apartments, some of which are quite far from the main pool and I can’t comment for the main pool and restaurant as we didn’t use them.
My main problem with this hotel is that it just seems there is no one managing it! We had a great stay here and I would probably come back however, these below need to be addressed:
After 2 weeks of having my EarPods on the table next to my bed, one day they went missing. This day, they had a different cleaning crew and to be honest it is the first time in 30 years of staying in 5 star places that I had anything stolen. We reported it without making a fuss and that was that! No manager even bothered to call us and no one seemed concerned. That is not on.
The Cleaning was very on-off. The cleaners were clearly rushed off their feet and one day the place was spotless and the next day they would not clean the toilet or remove the dead ants which were all over the place. The seats outside had bird poo for close to 10 days. The pool lacks a stopper flap so all the bugs just come right back into the pool and I had to buy a net myself.
Upon leaving, I was presented with a bill of 600 euros, for god knows what! One of the items was a charge for an extra small bed - a pathetic bed that we had to oil with olive oil every night. You just don’t expect this nonsense upon checking out when you have paid over £10k and your EarPods were stolen! They did sort the bill and I am grateful for this though I am sure they girl could see that I was not about to pay an extra unannounced bill at checkout!
Lastly and on the last day (thank god) I was sitting enjoying my breakfast when a pack of 3 wild dogs came into the garden, one went to the pool and the others were peeing and drinking the pool water. I literally thought WTF!!! Seriously? I would dread to think what someone with small children that is afraid of dogs would think! The dogs hung around and went around our villa 3 times. In fact, we had to wait for them to go before getting into our car. I mentioned this upon checkout and the girl said yes it is because of our barrier. Like this is normal for a 5 star resort!!!! To have abandoned dogs roaming the grounds and swimming in the pools of the guests!! Change your bloody barrier then!!! By the way, a barrier that had no security guard and was always up for most of our stay.
So I don’t really know what to say. It is a very nice quiet resort and we did have a nice time and the people were very friendly for sure but certain things are just ridiculous here and it really needs a decent management to actually have some input into the various shortcomings. Like, they wanted 10 euros to deliver the food to our villa! I am sure they can pay someone 40 euros a day to do all the deliveries without charging the guests and they would make a killing! We didn’t order food because they made it so damn inconvenient! Their food wasn’t bad.
Yes we would stay here again but obviously if my possessions get stolen again or I see wild abandoned dogs, then I won’t be as generous with my review! Happy to give them some proper training on how to manage this hotel, since as a guest (and business-person) I can see many easy wins here.
I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Vale Da Lapa, We stayed in a 3 bedroom 3 bathrom#om villa with a private pool. The villa was huge and spotlessly clean - the whole family loved it. Breakfast was very nice with table service and a good choice of hot and cold food...
If you're into tennis there is a lovely tennis club next door which we used regularly. Can't wait to return next year!!
We really enjoyed staying here, the apartment was very clean and spacious with a nice garden area at the back with a stream full of frogs which were very noisy at night but strangely relaxing (They cant be heard with the windows and doors shut). The breakfast was tasty and we ate there every morning, we also had dinner in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was delicious and traditional Portuguese, don't expect burgers, chicken nuggets and chips! Staff were very friendly to us at all times and we even had an interesting chat with the manager about Brexit ;-) We would certainly stay here again.
