Excellent location and breakfast, dated rooms and rude staff.
First impression of the hotel were good, perfect location for us at the top of Carveiros main road near restaurants but far enough away to not be noisy. Reception and restaurant look to have all been recently decorated, nice and light decor. However I wouldn’t recommend the hotel for the reasons below - $40 for safe - $20 for safe cost and additional $20 deposit which you get back when you return the key. Our room keys didn’t work so had to go back to reception for that then when we got in the adjoining doors were locked so back down to reception again for those to be opened up. The rooms are very very dated and look dirty in parts. The plug socket by the bed buzzed and crackled so I unplugged it all holiday. The pressure on the shower was great however the bath didn’t drain very well and the hairdryer was really poor. The thing that spoiled the hotel for me the most was the 2 cleaning ladies, they did their job well but they were so rude, never smiled seemed angry with us if we weren’t ready for our rooms to be cleaned when they came - and it wasn’t like we were awkward as we were out and about from 11 every day and left the sign on the door to let them know. One day we were out from 9 on a trip came back at about 4 and they were cleaning our rooms, glared at us and told us to go away. Towards the end of our holiday my heart would sink if they were on our corridor. I usually leave a fairly decent tip for cleaning ladies when we’re away but not this time. On a positive note the breakfasts were really really nice, good selection all fresh and well presented and the hotel also has an indoor pool which was useful for us as we had a couple of cloudy days although this area too could do with a lick of paint and a bit of basic maintenance on cracked tiles and to be generally freshened up which it looked like the spa area had had already. I don’t think the hotel is a 4 star and based on the rooms would struggle for 3 star. Carveiro is lovely but I would not stay at this hotel again.
Fantastic staff, great hotel and relaxing holiday!
Our first time in Portugal, this hotel was recommended to us and I'm so glad we stayed there. When we arrived in Reception, the hotel manager Leo kindly showed us around the hotel and outside area. Our room was clean and comfortable, clean towels etc were replaced every day. Plenty of choice at breakfast, and the drinks/food in the pool bar/hotel bar were very reasonably priced. The pool area was lovely, loads of sunbeds and space to relax and unwind. The staff were amazing! Shout out to Niazi, Usman, "Alex", Talha, Elana, Natalia, Hiolando, Rodrigo, Obloktl and Margarita. Thank you for making our holiday great!
Average Hotel.
Definitely not a 4 star hotel, reception staff unfriendly and not helpful. The steam room didn’t work for the week we were there. We had bed and breakfast for 7nights, we were being picked up at 07.30hrs the day of departure, but the restaurant doesn’t open until 08.00hrs, and there was no way they we’re going to let us grab a coffee or food before that. No kettle etc in rooms, so beware if you have kids with our departure time you might want to get drinks etc night before.
Very enjoyable Stay!
Lovely hotel and very clean room, the bed was extremely comfy with lovely crisp white bed linen. We arrived at lunch time and was shown around by the receptionist, she let us put our cases in a room until our room was ready. The breakfast was plentiful, fruits, breads, cheese, full english if you want it! Excellent coffee machine with good selection. The staff were very friendly and helpful, Romalu went out of his way to make sure we had everything that we needed, he brought us Soya milk as soon as he saw us sit down. The Jet2 Rep Sandra was very helpful too, we found it very enjoyable and wished we had taken our walking boots as there was lots of lovely cliff top walks from our hotel, plenty of lovely restaurants and coffee shops - one of our favourite places to eat out was A Vela Restaurant, Antonia made us feel very welcome and was a real foodie! The weather was a bit hit and miss but there is an indoor pool and jacuzzi and sauna. Don't let the negative reviews put you off :)
Good for the money
Great little hotel, room was decent although for some reason we were put into a room catered for disabled and the balcony was small compared to our partys, tge bathroom was very basic and the fittings, fixings were outdated i.e rusty etc. No kettle in room, balcony door made an awfal noise when opening/closing. Breakfast was really good tho, plenty of choice and tasted good. Pool was nice but cold, indoor sauna,steamroom was avaliable but hot tub was cold , took hours to warm. Staff were friendly, the hotel is on top of the hill so not recommended for people who struggle to walk as most of the bars, restaurants are at the bottom although a short taxi ride 4 euros takes you up/down. There is a nasty slope outside the hotel when walking onto the road where i slipped and fell backwards and hit my head as its very slippery and dangerous so be aware.
