This is our second time staying here, we last stayed in August 2019 and would have been back sooner if it wasn’t for Covid.
I enjoy staying in this hotel because of the location, literally a minute walk to the marina and the beach!
The pool area is clean and you can always manage to get a bed, only downside is you might have to chase the sun as only parts of the pool get the sun and most of it is in the shade.
Breakfast was included in the price but we only went twice in our weeks stay, it’s very average and could be a lot better!
The rooms have been done up since the last time we stayed and was pleasantly surprised. Bathrooms are now a lot bigger and have a lovely new shower! Cleaned every day and fresh towels given when you needed. Only downside is there is no plug beside the mirror in the bedroom (girl problem when doing hair)
Was also charged for drinking the bottle water that was replaced everyday in the hotel room fridge and was not told about this until check out and had to pay €20!!! - please tell your guests when checking in it’s not FREE!!
Overall I will be back next year!
There were more negatives than positives.
When we checked in the Reception did not inform us of how to access the WiFi, the room safe or how to get the pool towels.
For a room that holds 4 people (junior suite) there was a large wardrobe but only 10 hangers for 4 people...
What an absolute waste of space.
There was very limited drawer space in the room. In the bedroom there was a large table holding the TV which could have had drawers underneath. The bedside tables had no drawers in. Who designs these rooms.
We were told (only after I’d asked) that you collect the pool towels at 10am at the side of reception. When I went at 10am the next morning there was no-one there. I asked reception how you got the pool towels. The lady literally just got me some from the back room. There were no instructions on where to return the towels when you’d finished with them. It seems you just left them on your sunbed but this isn’t good because people don’t know when you’ve finished with the bed if someone left a towel behind. There should be a large bin to return them to. But why is none of this explained.
It encourages people to just leave towels on the sunbed when they are no longer use. One afternoon there were three of us on one bed with empty beds around us with towels lying on them, clearly no longer in use.
Why not have all towels on a shelf if there’s no limit in who can have one. Why employ a girl to sit there all day handing towels out.
There was no where to dry the clothes on the balcony. Usually there is a clothes line. We had two large balconies, but no clothes rail on either. Also no seating furniture on one of them.
Although our room was massive the bathroom was tiny. You literally had to close the door to get past the sink.
Entertainment by the pool was poor as was the evening entertainment.
The hotel printed off our negative Covid certificates and passenger locator forms for free. We took Living Care LFT to do ourself before our return to the UK although there is a testing centre between 6-10pm right in the marina.
However none of this distracted from a lovely stay. The location of the hotel is excellent. Literally a minutes walk from the marina.
There are loads of amazing restaurants especially Rare, Zu Yi Chinese, News and Mayflower.
We went on a fabulous 3 hour boat trip with Ocean Quest to see the Caves and a swim in the sea. Amazing, knowledgable staff and complimentary drinks and snacks.
We also spent a day at Puro Beach club on the beach. The food, drinks & staff were great.
I have previously stayed in the sister hotel at Vila Gale Ampalius which was more modern than this one and I’d prefer that hotel in future.
Excellent location just off the marina. Very good breakfast and staff were very pleasant. Clean rooms...
Minor downsides were that the rooms were a bit dated and the lifts are very small meaning long waits at peak times (exacerbated by COVID restrictions to be fair). Overall I would happily book again and would recommend to others.
Not great. Given room on ground floor which smelt like something had died nearby. Had to work out ourselves WiFi, pool towels, etc...
Lined up for breakfast for 20 minutes. Locals given preference and allowed to queue jump at omelette/pancake station. Entrance hidden at back, totally wasting proximity to marina. Pluses are that it is close to beach and marina so you can spend as much time as possible away. Relatively cheap - but you get what you pay for.
We have just arrived at the Vila Gale Marina to a wonderful reception from the manager and his staff. The hotel is as beautiful as we remembered it and the staff as helpful as they could possibly be. Don’t let anything stop you from coming or you’ll regret it...
