Great central hotel!

Review by foodaholic0403 Nottingham, United Kingdom

Loved my stay here, yes things slightly different & quieter than normal due to COVID! Felt safe but relaxed. Excellent central location, just a short walk from lots of great inexpensive restaurants. Staff were fab, especially Marcello & Tania, could not fault them really...

Fabulous hot breakfast, lots of choice. Rooftop pool great with stunning views. Quirky balcony room onto street but everything you needed (except a fridge). Comfy bed & Powerful shower too! Would def stay here again. Great holiday! Thank you! 😍

Our 3rd Time at The Hotel do Carmo

Review by johnsX5345OB Essex, United Kingdom

Our first visit was back in the 1980’s well before all the new roads, viaducts and tunnels (and the cable car up to Monte!). Our latest two visits confirm the fact that the do Carmo is simply a lovely hotel in an excellent location!

Location is important and the do Carmo is uniquely positioned in Madeira Town rather than on the mega hotel strip out to the West. If you want the English / Irish pub, McDonald’s, time-share hustlers etc then go for the mega tourist hotel strip...

If you want to enjoy the charm of the old town, local restaurants and shops then the do Carmo is the one to choose!

Only criticism I would have is the lack of coffee making facilities in the rooms and the absence of aircon (unnecessary during our November visit (it was almost chilly!)) otherwise a nice not too expensive place to stay and enjoy old town Funchal. And if the weather does get a bit warm, it’s a short walk to the cable car which quickly whisks you away up to the cooler climes of Monte and from there to the Botanical Gardens and the excellent Levada walks.

Already looking forward to our next visit!

Review by Goncaloara8 Lisbon, Portugal

I have just left Madeira Island and I couldn't be more satisfied with the my stay at Hotel do Carmo. The location was superb. It's placed right in the center of Funchal, just a short walk from lots of typical streets, markets, restaurants and pubs...

Staff were beyond terrific, always helpful with all the things that a guest needs. Good hot breakfast served to the table with lots of choices. The bedrooms were very cozy and well decorated, moreover all the 60's vintage architecture was unique. The rooftop has a great pool with sun exposure all day long. The Wi-Fi was flawless in all areas of the Hotel Last but not least, throughout my 5 day stay at the Hotel (as well as Madeira) I always felt safe and secured regarding Covid-19 measures.

Beautiful vintage charm in city center

Review by helenafranca Lisbon, Portugal

Very well-located hotel to stroll around the city of Funchal and to serve as base to visit the island. The staff is friendly and careful in complying with the COVID protection rules. All the hotel decoration is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and very clean, very good wi-fi, and I loved the breakfast room with the well-kept tiles and the historic photographs of Madeira island. The rooftop pool has a beautiful view of Funchal, and although it was cold to dive, I spent an excellent afternoon reading and relaxing by the pool. It is certainly a place to return next time I visit Madeira!
