The hotel overlooks the ocean and enjoys easy access to the seafront promenade while Funchal town centre is 30 minutes walk away. Excellent guest facilities include a wonderful spa. I came here with partner in November and loved my stay so decided to come back with my Mother.
This hotel is well located in the Lido area and 40 min walk into Funchal. The staff are friendly and the food is good and drinks on offer are fantastic with lots of branded drinks to choose from.
The main restaurant has plenty of choice and is good quality but can be repetitive so its worth checking out the al la carte restaurants however are only on certain nights with limited availability...
The restaurant staff are lovely but a couple of times there was a disagreement between the staff where an older staff member was shouting at the younger staff member for not setting cutlery out correctly. It was a bit over the top. The restaurant staff were not happy on the night we checked in having a late dinner after the reception staff told us to make our way down. Maybe just a lack of communication but we felt uncomfortable having our dinner that evening.m
As said in a earlier review to quote” The only thing that let the visit down for us were the sometimes feral, wayward children who monopolise the swimming pools with screaming almost all day. It may be a good idea to have one pool for adults and the other for children. At the moment it’s simply impossible for adults to get any peace with some parents seemingly oblivious to how badly their offspring behave. Clearly this isn’t the hotel’s responsibility but it could help alleviate the problem if children and adults had some some separation.”
This is sadly all true. It's not the hotels fault but allowing children in adults only pool from morning up to midnight is not fair on any of the other guests. The lack of parenting and screaming from children overspills onto the enjoyment of others. We were first located next to the indoor pool and due to where it's positioned the noise can echo but staff did act promptly to remove the mother and young son from a late night swim. There are so many under utilised areas in hotel that could be used for families or adults only areas.
The entertainment is good and aimed at adults but the kids enjoyed and made the best of it but there is just not enough for kids to do here, not so good for families
The front desk staff are very accommodating, waiting staff are friendly and cleaning staff work really hard. All the staff are a fantastic credit to the hotel.
Hopefully when things change I can return one day.
I am sorry to grade this hotel at the moment as "terrible". for the simple reason of the really nasty actions & behaviour of the Food & Beverage Manager. The hotel was a 5 star, now its barely a 4 star......Solely down to poor senior management...It has totally lost the "5 Star service & feel"...
As a regular visitor to the Enotel Lido over the years, it has really gone downhill in some areas.
First the good bits, the front of house waiting, serving & bar staff really work hard (however as always, there are a few who trundle along) There is simply not enough staff & they cannot cope with the volume of clients..! It's no use the (really nasty, argumentative & angry) Food & Beverage Manager barking orders & panicking, when it is blatantly obvious there is not enough staff to go round...!
Plus point...Recently however the quality & choice of food has improved, with good displays, well done to the behind-the-scenes kitchen staff.
New management is needed, especially to organise the Food & Beverage section with the managing of clients needs.
Housekeeping needs a "severe shake up"...! In the two weeks I was there (& on previous visits) the room was only cleaned properly & set out with a "full complement" of towels/bathmat, soaps, tissues & mini bar once..! Having to ring housekeeping for short falls.
The Atlantico Restaurant's outside dining area is too cold in the morning, too hot at lunch & too cold in the evening. The two entrances to the Atlántico Restaurant did have Managers (wearing a suit & tie) to meet & greet you, chat & show you to your table & arrange service, Now I must find my own table & wait for table service. The "Restaurant Managers" now wear a poor-quality drab shirt, pants & collects plates...! The staff used to wear smart tailored pants & shirt/blouse, now they wear scruffy jeans & polo shirt & trainers. The tables in the restaurant used to have linen on them, now they are poor quality bare tables. The underside of the new restaurant extension in the pool area is cold & windy resembling a multi-storey car park with bare concrete pillars & roof along with poor tube lighting with no "atmosphere". Now, there are so few tables at the pool area to sit in the sun & enjoy a drink. Also, the table service seems to have gone & it's serve yourself..! The Bar at the pool area is dark, dismal & needs a rethink & refurbishment. Dress code for the Atlantico Restaurant, should be reinforced at Holiday Reps meetings & more prominent with literature given at check in.
The "Dine Around options have been reduced, to not worth bothering with New Management is needed as soon as possible before the Hotel looses its status. The once splendid Christmas displays are now reduced to mediocre.
All in all, not ......5 Star...!
Visited the Enotel Lido again and were not disappointed. The hotel is fabulous having been refurbished again. The rooms are spacious and modern...
The food is wonderful with so much choice. The staff? Well you wouldn't find better. So friendly and helpful and they work so hard. We visited in April and I have never seen it so busy with so many children. It was a very different environment. Although the holiday wssnt spoilt, I hope to go again when it is less busy. Hopefully it was a one off.
We spent 10 days in April at the Enotel Lido in Funchal, Madeira. Generally the hotel and its staff etc were excellent. However - I had rung the hotel a week or so before our stay to ask if we could book a table at the on-site Italian restaurant on 17th April as it would be our 40th wedding anniversary...
I was told that would be fine. When we later checked in to the hotel we checked that the table was booked -yes it was, we were told. Two days later, on our anniversary, we went to the restaurant at the arranged time only to find it closed! I spoke to a nearby member of staff who told me it had been closed for the last two days due to illness. As you can imagine we were not happy. Luckily, the manager of the adjacent Madeiran restaurant fitted us in there. After the meal we went the hotel Reception to ask why we hadn’t been told about the Italian restaurant being closed. Basically they had no answer, though they were very apologetic, and said we would be hearing further from management. We didn’t. We were also disappointed that there was no tea and coffee making facilities in our room.
My wife uses a wheelchair and we booked a twin bed suite. Our taxi dropped us at the door and helped unload the chair and our mountain of luggage. The reception staff were very helpful and took us up to our suite on the 10th floor.
The accommodation was excellent...
Comfortable beds, spacious sitting room, plenty of cupboard space and a kettle for that vital morning tea. The balcony which faced the sea was enormous and really rather a waste of space, but it was nice to go out there and watch the boats and the people on the prom below.
The hotel is divided into two wings and each has two lifts which were rather small (no room to turn the wheelchair around so had to reverse out) they were also easy to overload. It was no problem for us as the hotel was not busy, but I imagine some long waits at peak times.
There are three restaurants and several bars: The main dining room on the second floor is self-service, although the ever-obliging staff will bring tea and coffee at breakfast and keep your wine glass topped up at lunch and dinner. The food on offer was good. Loads of salad with cheese and cold meats, There was always fish, meat, pasta and a vegetarian meal on offer and a variety of deserts. Our only complaint was that the 'hot' food was never actually hot.
The other two restaurants down at pool level offer a fixed menu with table service we used both a couple of times and enjoyed what was on offer. We also had a couple of meals out at lunchtime and the variety and quality in Funchal are impressive.
Our first week was during the Easter holidays so there were quite a lot of children who seemed to be having a good time in the pools and the entertainment area. On week two the average age took a sharp climb and guests were mostly wrinklies with a few babies and toddlers.
We will certainly consider making a return visit.
