The Fourviews Monumental Lido, formerly the Hotel Monumental Lido, is ideally located only one and a half miles from the centre of Funchal and a little more than 100 yards from the seafront promenade & the Lido. It is well-equipped and maintained and is convenient for a selection of bars, restaurants and good shopping.
It was very noisy, there was a music playing in the pool area and every word could be heard, even with windows closed the music was coming through not to mention the bass. We came here to relax but instead we had a very disappointing and stressful experience.
We travelled as a couple retuning 20/09/2021. We were very pleased with the hotel, quick check-in, room (we were in a studio) had everything we needed, it was a little dated and the balcony wasn’t the biggest but it was spotlessly clean and had a bath which was great for me. We went B&B and found breakfast was great, all the usual suspects, very COVID aware with gloves to wear while choosing food and masks worn until seated at the table...
The pool area was lovely again so clean, a nice terrace bar with a good selection of drinks and snacks. The location of the hotel is central with plenty of shops, bars, restaurants on the door step however be warned doesn’t matter which way way you walk you will encounter steep hills!!! We went up the mountain on the cable cars views were awesome, we went into the Botanical Gardens which were beautiful and so much bigger than I had thought they would be. We came down on the sled, worth doing but when we got to the bottom we declined a taxi to take us the rest of the way down which was a big mistake it is still a long long way down!!
The hotel was excellent, the breakfast was amazing ,check in was quick and efficient and the whole hotel area was clean and well maintained. our room was comfortable with a lovely sea view and serviced daily with nice added touches from the maids like folded night wear and tidy bathroom. We had a fantastic time and thanks for the complimentary bubbles for my birthday, we enjoyed them.
As previous reviews say Covid restrictions are good now that’s over let’s get to the review. This is in the Lido part of Funchal and has a lot of supermarkets shops restaurants and travel agents just out of the doorway. On seeing the entrance it is surprising what lies behind and above...
Lovely pool area always clean and always beds available. We used the upper sun terrace that had a fantastic view of the sea. We were B&B and food was plentiful and tasty and covered all nationalities tastes, even sparkling wine was available. Room kept spotless the full time we were here and view from the stairway out to sea was breath taking each morning. We didn’t stay in hotel on an evening so can’t say if there was entertainment but plenty of restaurants in a very short walking distance. We walked to the marina and found lovely places there to eat also. We used the travel agents just outside the hotel entrance and booked day trips. They will sort out what you are looking for as each to their own with trips. We booked a dolphin sightseeing directly at the marina and they sorted out transfers by local bus .. the bus stop is opposite. Plenty of supermarkets but if you cross the road and go left and downhill a bigger supermarket is there and prices cheaper and a lot more choice. Pool bar was around 5 euros for a pint of local lager. Rooms had tea and coffee and a kettle with 2 cups and 2 glasses. Hairdryer was a good one and powerful and shower was really strong. A totally pleasant experience. Check in is at 2pm and check out at 12 noon and a room to store luggage which is safe. We found the beds comfortable and had 4 pillows and air con was spot on. This may seem a bit of a long winded review but it’s all the things I looked for before coming and could not find in just one review so hope this helps. Transfer was around 20 mins. The island is beautiful and well worth a visit the weather is temperamental we would feel rain although the sun was so hot .. we would pack up to go in and before we had it had stopped and was glorious again .. very strange so we ended up just sitting it out. For the price of this hotel I could not find a fault. We had originally booked Corfu and changed due to covid and a cancelled flight. I am glad we did as it is not a place I had ever intended to visit but would defiantly return.
Stayed at this hotel last week in July had a lovely time ; room was lovely very clean maids came daily clean towels ext food was very good lots of choice very tasty, no beach but pool area was kept very clean & plenty sun loungers . Would definitely recommend this hotel , we will visit at some point in the future.
