Nice hotel

Review by Patroni2013Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

This is a lovely hotel, well situated for the shops and bars that are within easy walking distance. From check-in the staff could not be more courteous or accommodating. Our room was ground floor and had lovely views out to Sea and a short walk to the indoor pool, a small gym is also located but some of the kit is either broken or not serviceable. Their is no A/C so it gets boiling.

Our room was spotless and had a good array of storage, a few things really need to be bought up to date though...

The shower head gave a poor flow of water, small bath towels. A safe which you have to rent a ‘tumbler’ haven’t seen one of these in years. The pillows felt like they were full of chopped foam, the beds were lovely and comfortable and at each bedside USB power was provided to help reduce the amount of adapters needed.

This is a lovely peaceful position at the top of the cliff, eat breakfast outside was a pleasure. We ate in the Restaurant one evening and the food was excellent and not over priced, nicely presented and good service.

I think my main criticism was that during our stay we encountered a number of people taking phone and Skype calls during breakfast and giving no consideration to other guests. I think the management could resolve this with small notices on the tables as many restaurants now do. Also our main reason for booking this hotel as it was billed as ‘Adults only’, we were amazed in our second week to find two young children running down the corridor and crying at breakfast ..

Would we go back again, yes.

Poor guest service

Review by JULIE GScotland, United Kingdom

Booked 7 nights B&B this hotel with Jet2 holidays flying Glasgow to Funchal 17th January 2020. Having contacted the hotel directly prior to our arrival requesting a side view TWIN room & high floor looking towards Funchal we were disappointed to be allocated room 106, I had also informed them it was a mother & daughter travelling together. This was our 3rd visit to this particular hotel. Room 106 is on the ground floor so most definitely not a high floor room. After some protracted discussions we were allocated room 411.....a DOUBLE room. More discussions followed.....a "French bed" would be delivered to our room......also known as a camp bed!!!. The following day we were moved to room 410......a twin room.....great......or so we thought...

An interconnecting room so we could hear our neighbours cough & use the bathroom. Room 410 has the tiniest balcony I have ever had the misfortune to experience......very dull....little or no natural light and stand alone space. Be aware that you can experience noise levels from the restaurant area as the clattering of dishes/cutlery begins early in the morning (6am). Lumpy pillows & uncomfortable beds. A courtesy bus is available into Funchal but it's not guest friendly or accommodating to guests......you are not permitted to return to the hotel on the mini bus if you hadn't travelled in on it. I fully appreciated its a request and not a guarantee when contacting the hotel but it very much appeared that they weren't receptive to guests who had stayed on previous occasions & in fact did the exact opposite. They did deliver a small cake to our room as it was my birthday whilst there Will not return and would not recommend.

Fabulous

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and it has always been excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful . Rooms are clean and all have a sea view and balcony ...

We particularly like having breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea ! We only ate in the hotel one night but the food was very good and the breakfast buffet is good too . We will definitely be returning again next year .

More than excellent

Review by esztanaBudapest, Hungary

It was our first visit in Madeira, and we chose the hotel based on references of our travel agency, and it was a very good choice. The hotel is not too big, and that is why the atmosphere is so friendly. The staff were very helpful, lovely and soulful. And the best surprise was (besides the perfect view from the perfect room) the hotel restaurant - we haven't eaten so delicious, various dishes in any other hotel. The breakfast and the dinner were all both fantastic, it could be 5*. The sun terrace and bar was very nice as well, and the weather in late February was more summer than spring.
