The four star Pestana Bay Ocean Aparthotel overlooks the ocean – and such a wonderful setting deserves a hotel of equal character. The Pestana Bay Aparthotel doesn't disappoint. It's a uniquely stylish hotel, full of idiosyncratic touches that set it apart and give it a really wonderful character.
Set on the bay at Praia Formosa, just a few miles west of the capital Funchal, the Pestana Bay Ocean Aparthotel is a wonderful beach resort. The Pestana Bay Ocean Aparthotel directly overlooks the ocean in a peaceful location just three miles to the west of Funchal. Classified as a beach resort, the hotel is on the beautiful bay of Praia Formosa backed by cliffs. The tranquil gardens contain a spectacularly situated pool area and give direct access to the sea.
From the Hotel Reception Staff to the Head Chef every member of staff at the Pestana Ocean Bay Hotel couldn't have been more helpful, polite, courteous and friendly whist maintaining a professional manner. As far as the choice of food is concerned I defy anyone not to find something to eat, all cooked to perfection and I would add that if there isn't anything to someone's taste. ask to speak with the head chef (if he isn't too busy!) and if he has it, I feel sure he will cook it to your liking...
Simply put the staff cannot do enough for you, I think they recognise that you are adding to the Island's economy and it is their way of saying Thanks. From Breakfast, through Lunch and afternoon snacks to Dinner the choice of food is almost as endless as your imagination. I can honestly say that I wasn't too sure about travelling abroad during the current climate, however the staff and in the main the guests have restored my faith that together we will beat this pandemic. Unless exempt on medical grounds Masks are to be worn throughout the hotel, staff wear them and remind guests where necessary. There are sanitiser dispensers located at every turn and floor markings direct you where to stand. Overall totally happy with this holiday Thanks Portugal, Madeira and everyone associated with the Pestana Ocean Bay Hotel.
The hotel is situated at the foot of a cliff with beautiful peaceful stone beach, However no shops around without a treacherous walk in the blistering heat, The hotel shop is a tiny room with less items than a car boot stall and is open if and when they can be bothered, Rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels given if requested by leaving dirty ones on the floor, Upon arrival into your room you also have pool towels which I believe the hotel has a shortage of as they are taken away by the cleaners at the first given chance and not replaced, Whilst on the subject of cleaners I also had €50 stolen from my pocket of the shorts I had on the night before ( I know I should have emptied my pockets when taking them off but genuinely forgot to do so) my son also had a pair of Nike shorts go missing.
Food wise the hotel is very repetitive and there is absolutely no children's selection whatsoever besides fish fingers a few times however only seen fries twice in 10 days, The food is also very limited choice basically pasta rice and fish however breakfast is one of the best I've had abroad. The food I will say is cooked very well but the tend to be unable to keep up with supply on all aspects from food to drink to cutlery to plates, Drinks dispensers were constantly needing attention and you can wait a while before someone actually sorts them out, Dirty Plates and cups especially around the grass area were left in piles for 48 hours at a time some days, and they would turn the sprinklers on every morning AFTER people had put their towels down (only on the grassed area) which was quite amusing to be fair...
Entertainment was good some nights and poor others but I guess that goes with personal choice and having a mixture of ages and nationalities.
Although I found Madeira a beautiful place and I'd definitely return but just not to this hotel.
We were there on week with all inclusive . The staff is very serviceminded and ready to help all the time. The food is ordinary , but lot af fruits and vegetables . The view from the rooms are beautiful...
The Atlantic sea just before you. Any it is a little noisy in the night . One big minus is the shuttle bus to the city. Only two departures forward and backward pr. Day. In the bar, they did a good work and the drinks were good. You will not regret a stay here
This country Is very, very beautiful. The Hotel was excelent. Room was a little old, but everything was clean, all staffs were very kind and highly professional...
Sea was super And food also great. Thank you very much. I Hope to come back again.
We visited in the last week of August. In my opinion this hotel was a bargain, we booked a package deal and for £460 per person all inclusive for a week it was a no brainer!
My breakdown of the food would be: Breakfasts were fantastic, lunch was very good and dinner was good. Lots of places to eat within a 10 minute walk if you fancy something a bit different...
The all inclusive bar was faultless, a full menu of freshly made cocktails (not just your typical vodka and orange “cocktail”) and very speedy service, even in the evening you’d never be waiting more than a couple of minutes. A special mention to Mohammed behind the bar- he was so friendly and welcoming and was an expert! If you only wanted beer or soft drinks there were taps available right next to the pool which was great.
The rooms were enormous and all with the most amazing sea view. My only criticism was no air con (the more expensive rooms did have aircon) , just a large ceiling fan. This may have put me off coming if I’d known, but the fan was definitely enough to keep the room cool and I slept brilliantly throughout.
