Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel

Stayed for 5 nights as a celebration for our 40th wedding anniversary. We were warmly welcomed at check in and although our room wasn't ready, as we flee in early we explored the hotel and grounds. Fabulous pool and had lunch in the pool bar enjoying a couple of beers whilst looking out at the incredible views. Our room was 1516 a deluxe city view which was spacious and had an enormous bed which was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was divine so much choice both hot an cold we certainly ate very well each day. The hotel provided us with chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne plus a personalised card to celebrate our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Our room was cleaned daily and everything was beautifully clean. The hotel has many different areas and bars to visit with wonderful views all the staff were so helpful, polite and friendly and that makes such a difference to any stay, especially a celebration. The hotel is very close to the centre of Funchal and around it are a number of restaurants to cater for anyone's tates and wallets. The hotel is spotless as are the rooms. We ate in the pub on our first night. The food was ok but nothing special. The breakfast was a buffet style and offered everything expected. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We were only B & B so ate out in the evening. There was entertainment in the evenings such as a piano player. There was other entertainment but had to buy tickets which we didn't do. We didn't go in the pool as it was too cold but looked a good size.
