The view and ambiance are both amazing and the access to the ocean is great for anyone who enjoys swimming. I travelled with strict dietary restrictions and could not have felt safer and more welcome; the staff was always willing to assist me and everyone was friendly and helpful. Madeira is a wonderful place to visit with friends and family!
Room was very comfortable. However there was a wet patch from the carpet cleaning that took a couple of days to dry. Luckily it was in the corner of the room so it didn;t impact us too much.
Location is excellent.
Parking is a bit difficult but that is due to the terrain of Madiera...
The pool and restaurants were very good.
The staff were very polite, helpful and friendly.
This our 5th tie staying at this hotel. We thought the food was very good with our favourite being Madeira night.
The standard of protection from coronavirus was excellent in the restaurant and the staff were quite friendly and helpful. One particular lady stood out, I don't know her name but she was normally showing people to their places at night and has Monday and Tuesday off.
This was the first time we didn't have a pool and sea view as before...
I realise I cannot expect this every time I come but would appreciate having a room in the area of 209 when we return for a fortnight in May next year.
We liked the large rooms and good sized balcony along with air conditioning and a safe. It was good to find we could have the television altered so all programmes were in English.
We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of September. We were impressed with the cleanliness and the COVID precautions. The service was good and the location of the hotel was perfect...
We had a lovely week.
Just had a week at the pestana Carlton beach club hotel, the location is perfect, plenty of good restaurants and other amenities on the doorstep, about a 10-15 minute steady walk into Funchal centre with all its cafes and shops. I really have to praise the staff at this hotel, they are so friendly and professional everything runs like clockwork. The place was spotless that includes the pool and terrace areas, there was always someone around the pool keeping things looking nice it’s very nicely landscaped and well looked after...
We had no problem getting sun longers every day and reserving them with towels is frowned upon ( but as usual there are always the ones who do this anyway). We stayed bed and breakfast which was buffet style with a good choice to get your day off to a good start there was even sparking wine if that’s your fancy in a morning. They had strict protocols in place for covid hygiene which we appreciated and everyone adhered to. Our room was on the 4th floor with a large balcony and nice furniture with a great view of the pool and the ocean beyond, there is a small fridge which is concealed and blended in with rest of room furniture with water and soft drinks on arrival. The bathroom was also a nice roomy size with generous sized bath towels and toiletries. We ate on our first night in the Tavern it’s set up to look an old English pub we enjoyed what we had and reasonably priced for an hotel. Overall we had a very pleasant stay the weather was great ate out a lot, would recommend Hemingway’s restaurant 5 min walk from hotel great food and the maitre’d is hilarious. This is our second time in Madeira and we would definitely stay at the Carlton again (and I’m a very picky traveller) they really go out of their way for you to have a great stay. There was always someone at the hotel entrance to greet you back after a day of sight seeing or to wish you good evening on your way out and there to help with luggage. One last thing if you can try and have afternoon tea at the Reid’s hotel it’s very indulgent and typically English but the views from where you sit on the balcony are beautiful and the afternoon tea itself is really amazing and for a bit more decadence add a glass of champagne to it, not cheap but a real treat as part of your holiday. I would recommend the Carlton as your base for a great stay in Funchal we booked through jet 2 holidays and I think that guarantees you a nice room with a great view.
