The hotel is situated at the heart of over 6.4 acres of botanical gardens, just in front of a magnificent partially covered swimming pool and its surrounding sun terrace.

Grounds of the hotel are absolutely beautiful, as is the hotel itself and the rooms is big and bright. I would say the service can be a little over fussy, though I know they are looking to provide old fashioned service. Breakfast choice could be a little better, maybe the choice could be a little more than a choice of type of egg...
The piano bar is peaceful and a nice environment but they could introduce some better cocktails - maybe prohibition style would work very well. I would definitely go back and it is in an oasis of calm
I have rarely written a review in my life but I am making an exception for this truly exceptional and unforgettable hotel.
We first visited the Quinta Jardins do Lago about 20 years ago and have since been back on several occasions . If I could choose one place on earth where I would like to live forever, it would undoubtedly be at this exquisitely beautiful Quinta...
It is quite simply marvellous in every possible way. The building is historic - formerly the Governor’s residence - and it still retains a gracious , old world charm with many original features. It is beautifully preserved, immaculately kept and absolutely pristine both inside and outside in the extensive grounds. Our rooms have always been spacious and perfect with the most comfortable beds and pillows to ensure that you have the very best nights’ sleep. Coming from a chilly British climate, it is always a joy to have breakfasts in the garden and enjoy the wonderful selection available . Lunches by the pool are delightfully informal but it is the haute cuisine in the evening when you can really begin to appreciate the superbly talented chef who brings a level of creativity to his work that you just know must arise from a passion for perfection. Using the very freshest of healthy, local ingredients, his creations are beautiful to look at and, without exception, utterly delicious.
The service is incomparable. We have travelled around the world for our work and have seldom felt quite so well-cared for by so many charming, courteous and well-trained staff. Their smiling delivery of excellent service ensures you feel as though you are their most important guest ever.
Last but not least I must mention the large, beautifully-kept garden which features a magnificent variety of of tropical and sub-tropical plants. The garden is also home to Colombo - a Galapagos turtle who has found that being loved, cherished and living in paradise are the secrets of longevity !
We stayed at this small hotel for the second time. It has quite a familiar atmosphere. The staff is very friendly with an utmost kind and personal service...
Even the pool area and its bistro is very tranquil and relaxed. The rooms are spacious and functional furnished. And a special highlight ist the vast hotel park: a real botanical garden with plants and trees from all over the world well tended. And all this functioned extraordinarily well even in emergency time because of Covid-19. As the hotel is situated on a plateau above Funchal a shuttle service takes the clients in regular intervals down town and back to the hotel.
My partner and I booked the hotel after reading a glowing review in a national daily last year and we were not disappointed. Sometimes the a 4 or 5 star hotel is flattering for a hotel, not Quinta Jardins do Lago. Everything from the professional & courteous staff (who couldn't do enough for you), food & drink and the stunning gardens was perfect. We will use this hotel and the overall experience as benchmark for our future travels...
We plan on returning sometime in the not too distant future and we look forward to it.
A beautifully presented smaller hotel on the outskirts of Funchal ,set in extensive botanical gardens with wonderful views. The staff are attentive and friendly , always delivering first class service.
