We have been coming to the Royal Savoy for nearly 20 years and clearly the last 12 months has been a difficult time. The refurbishment particularly of the rooms have not been as extensive as we had hoped and been led to believe will happen but we are delighted to be back and will continue to visit regularly.
We have been coming to Madeira for a number of years and were already familiar with the hotel but normally stayed elsewhere. We really enjoyed our stay here for the following reasons:
The style if the rooms is older than the neighbouring Savoy Palace and Next hotels which are both part of the group but we liked the proximity to the sea and service here.
I have been a Royal Savoy member almost since it opened. My T1 on the 2nd floor is superb but over the years the hotel has become a bit dated and in need of refurbishment and maintainence upgrades. These seem to have been done during closure due to Covid so we wait to see the impact...
Like many other members I am not happy at the extra costs demanded for these and winged an email off to the Royal. Seems many have complained and I have received an email back confirming this. The Royal is meeting to discuss the backlash so like others I await the result. This will not go well for the Royal if they insist on members footing the bill, now and in the future. Meanwhile I look forwards to my next long awaited visit, cannot come soon enough.
The Royal Savoy reopens at the end of August. members who own timeshares there have been shabbily treated over the last year. We kept being shunted off to the Savoy palace, not what we wanted or paif for...
Finally I was able to bank 2021 week until 2022 but to my horror have received an invoice wanting payment for the upgrdaes they have done which is totally outside the terms of our contract. Do stay here, a great location, lovely rooms and pools, and good sea access, but don't buy timeshare here. Weekly charge is now enormous compared to the Pestana just up the hill. Oh, and the wine is better and cheaper in Number Two Pub.
Also received email from Royal about refurbishment costs As Jenny T stated we were told that increases were to be at Inflation rate in Portugal as at 30 June previous Also would be interested to find out how othe Timesharers are looking at this situation
