Superb Hotel, Fantastic Staff

Centrally located in Funchal with short walk to restaurants and sea front. Great bedrooms with very comfortable bed, an immaculately made up daily. Rooftop pool with brilliant views out over Funchal...

Wide selection at breakfast and chef went to extract special effort to provide gluten free options, including homemade pancakes. Happy hour cocktails from the rooftop bar each evening. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend

Insane rooftop

Amazing stay in Funchal. The rooftop is amazing with the warm water pool and the long jacuzzi. I would recommend everyone to visit their restaurant...

The food is great! Lovely staff! You can also visit some of the spa parts without extra charge.

Very nice

Stayed at The Vine for a weekend break and had a fantastic stay. The staff were always attentive and friendly, especially the Terrace Bar staff. Just a couple of minor issues we encountered - the Terrace Bar/Pool area was really nice and a very relaxed atmosphere, until a group of around 8 Englishmen who were in Funchal for a 50th Birthday descended on the Terrace and it literally emptied as very quickly the language became a lot more choice, as did the noise levels from them as the alcohol was being consumed...

These people were not residents of the hotel, but got access to the Terrace Bar, which was unfortunate as I thought the room cards we had only allowed lift access to the various hotel floors to residents only. I felt very sorry for the bar staff who had to contend with these characters, and as I say, the Terrace Bar emptied in quick time when this group arrived. I did hear the mouth of the group order a taxi for 8 people at 2pm as we were actually leaving, so we went back to the calm and ambience later when I knew they had left. Also, and as I say a minor observation, there could be a couple more plug sockets in the hotel rooms, but not a massive issue. Well done The Vine for a very nice stay for myself and my partner, and a call out to Mateo, Raphael and Marta for their great service and friendly welcome during our stay, which was very appreciated. A fantastic hotel and location, next time we will stay for longer than a short weekend break!

A little disappointing.

Review by Maps00529812199 Kilmacolm, United Kingdom

We visited the rooftop restaurant which has lovely views of the hillside and some to the sea. Bar service before our meal was slow. The food was ok but expensive- the fish tartare starter was tasteless but the short ribs and pig cheeks were good...

The chicken dish was very small. The cost was about €90 a head including wine and port with cheese.

Great hotel & location

Review by adeandwend Leeds, United Kingdom

Stayed here for 10 nights over Easter period, great hotel and excellent base for exploring Funchal. We hired a car for 5 days and even though hotel is in heart of the city it was easy to get in and out without getting clogged up in traffic, free basement parking as well which is a bonus.

We had a standard room which was OK but not without its flaws, quite a a small space with no bedside tables so water, glasses and the like could not be kept close by...

Only 2 plug sockets in the room and no-where near a mirror so hairdryer use was problematic if you actually wanted to see what you were doing. Would consider a bigger room next time just for the extra space.

Breakfast to a good standard, loved the freshly squeezed juice every day. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but had lunch and drinks at the pool bar and more than happy with service and quality of food, it was quite windy when we were to the point that stuff went flying all over, staff managed this well.

Being on top of a shopping centre was novel but actually really convenient, great supermarket and a few decent shops for browsing. Also, a bakery if you need food for trips out etc.
