Lovely hotel and pool area

Review by SHELLYJ Leicestershire, United Kingdom

We were moved to the Melia Benidorm, prior to our stay, as the original hotel we had booked (Sol Pelicanos/Ocas) had closed due to the Covid situation and lack of visitors. Not that we minded because we had secured a very good price for our stay, and the Melia was normally a more expensive hotel! The hotel reception area, dining room, bar and pool areas were all spotless and lovely, lush, green, tropical themed areas. Our room was spacious, with an amazing pool view and comfortable bed and furnishings. The bathroom was a little tired looking, with a very weirdly positioned hairdryer, meaning you had to lean right over the toilet to use it, as had a very short cable! Also, my other pet hate in a hotel - not enough coat hangers! Sorry, but 5 hangers for 2 people for a 2 week stay is just not enough! (luckily I'd packed a few extra!) But I was happy that they did provide a kettle for the room, free of charge, when I asked for one. Which few Spanish Hotels do. Although we had booked half board, we never actually ever had an evening meal there, as it was just too late in the evening for us. The couple of times we ate at lunchtime, and the breakfasts we had there were very good though, with an excellent selection and good Covid safe measures in place. Unfortunately, 10 days into our stay, the Melia was also forced to close, and we were transferred to their sister hotel, the Sol Costa Blanca, for the last 4 nights of our stay, which I will review separately. Although we hadn't actually chosen the Melia for our holiday, it was a lovely hotel, and we would consider staying here again...

We just prefer the location and the pool area of Sol Pelicanos/Ocas, where we have stayed several times before. We did have a few minor issues, surrounding the communication around our mid stay move, but these are very unusual and unsettling times, so do not really deserve to form part of this hotel review.

Enjoyable time

Review by rjme428 Alicante, Spain

Very enjoyable time at the Melia, fantastic pool area, very tropical, fantastic for laying on a sun bed having an afternoon drink ! Buffet excellent for both breakfast and dinner. Food always hot which in Spain for a buffet is unusual. Good choice of food and easily the best deserts we have ever had at a hotel...

Car park right next to hotel 15 euros per day, would have been nice for it to be reduced price for people staying at the hotel as it forms part of the building. Overall a great stay and will return next year.

short changed

Review by Hipp027 Derby, United Kingdom

Booked and paid in full (mums 80th) 11 family members (6 rooms) to stay here in April 2020 on recommendation from another family member, due to Covid this didn’t happen. Now although they have my money they will only allow us to extend the booking as a whole group using all 6 rooms together. This is now not possible due to mums health deterioration, due to shielding, one member losing job etc...

I would like to split the rooms and use it separately so that i am not too much out of pocket but they say this is not possible. Any ideas / advise appreciated.

Most enjoyable and safe visit to the Melia

Review by Mikey1214 Burton upon Trent, United Kingdom

We had stayed at this hotel previously so knew our way around. On arrival, we had checked in online, we still had to wait a while but the guy on reception was most efficient and friendly. The room was good and only two minor points 1: a soap dispenser in the bathroom would have helped 2...

a waste basket in the room would have prevented us having to leave our waste with the small bin in the bathroom. All around the hotel were sanitisers and using the dining area with the use of masks and gloves was not a problem. Staff throughout the hotel were helpful and friendly. Pool area and spa were relatively quiet except for weekends We did have a problem with the door key card, 2 days before we were due to leave, not working after several re- issues Eventually after a long wait we were moved to the room next door. One of the female receptionists was initially reluctant to our moving next door as the room was an upgraded one she wanted us to pack our luggage and move 6 floors down. the receptionists did, however, eventually agreed to our moving next door. The lock on our original room had to be totally removed and replaced the next day. We did not let this event affect out stay and will definitely return to the Melia Benidorm again.
