Benalmadena

This marvellous holiday complex is situated in Benalmadena Costa. It lies approximately 10 minutes away from Fuengirola by public transport, and is only 15 km away from Málaga Airport. The property is surrounded by vegetation creating the tranquillity that makes it ideal for a stress-free getaway. The most outstanding element is unquestionably the variety of leisure options, with activities designed for all ages and tastes. The outdoor pool area will be certainly everyone’s favourite. Various health and beauty treatments are provided for visitors who wish to feel refreshed. The rooms are perfectly decorated to create a comfortable atmosphere and make each stay the most pleasant and unforgettable one.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Relaxing Hotel, but Lacking Entertainment

Please note this review is from my experience and opinion. I am not a hotel connoisseur. I am also heavily autistic, so I put to be more focused on some areas than others.

-Rooms- The room we booked have a spacious kitchen/dining/living room area (It was an open area. This included a stove, microwave and an under counter fridge. They were cleaned very well and swiftly. The room had both a bath and shower, as well as bidet. The balcony was spacious enough to hold around 6 people without issue and had a plastic table with 2 chairs.

The AC would not go lower than 20c and would become weaker as it turned into night which really sucked for me and my friend as we are not that big fans of the heat. Don't ask why we went to Spain I don't have an actual answer for that one.

However, the room stated it had 3 beds, we did not realise one of said beds was a couch/sofa bed. This was not a couch folding out into a sofa but a small bed that came out from underneath said couch. The bed that I slept on would not stop moving and had to call maintenance to fix it. After that, I had to issues.

All TV's in the hotel both out and in the rooms were very old, around 10 years old, this is not that much of an issue but can be seen as cheap or lazy to not update at least the TV's in the rooms.

Me and my friend's bedroom (Double bed) Were squished together which is fine but when we pulled them apart the cleaner would push them together again. Not sure if this is just protocol but it was annoying.

-Arcade- The arcade was lacklustre. It had some fun classic games like pool, air hockey and bowling (I'll get to the latter part later). However, the games are not very well taken care of and there was either a prize corner at some point or they bought games where you could win tickets and just removed those features.

There is basically no staff there, the only time I saw staff there were the maintenance workers fixing the machines. My friend and I had a pretty unfortunate encounter with a group of kids who climbed onto the basket ball machines to take all the balls to play on one machine. While I was playing on one of them. They did not speak English, so I was unable to covey what they are doing is annoying as hell. Also like 4/5 of the basket ball machines hat tape over the multiplayer coin slot for some reason.

The bowling, was really weird. Instead of normal bowling, it had this like fighting game where you knock over the pins to do damage to a boss. It was quirky and interesting but kind of put us off playing it. Also, some of the animations had a lot of fan service, where the female enemies shook their breasts slightly, or you could see their panties in an almost up skirt shot. That would be fine if there were not so many kids about.

The claw machines were full of stuff you could not actually pick up with a claw even if those games were not rigged in the first place. It had Funko pops, small footballs and misc toys. I'm guessing they put what they could not sell in the shop in those claw games.

Half the pool tables has small rips which would make the game unfair, there was no normal chalk, but a block of the green chalk screwed to the side of the pool table. Also, it was all gone. The end of the cues were none existent par a couple, this caused the white ball to jump way more than it should.

-Food- Food was pretty good. The selection was fine for me as I am a basic white man with no good taste, so I just had western food the whole time which was fine. According to my friend, the fish were rarely deboned well and he kept spitting out bones. I know nothing about fish and some fish could be difficult to debone, I do not know.

Out of all the fruit drink dispensers, only 1-2 at a time were avalible out of the like 7 that were there. The soft drink dispensers were never flat which is a nice change to most hotels I've been to.

Overall food was pretty good.

-Pool- The pool was always crowded after lunch, the one pool with how many guests the hotel has seemed a bit confusing to me, but again I don't know anything about hotels.

The pool went up to my chin at the deepest (I'm 5'6) and had both steps and a very smooth ramp out which was actually fun to just sit and chill at. Laying down like you're at the beach. The temperature was a bit cool but warm enough you could just jump in without issue. Around a week before going they had banned balls altogether in the pool, which sucks but makes sense with how crowded it gets. They still however sell beach balls, small footballs and Zog like balls in their in hotel shop.

-Staff- The staff were all very nice and polite. With my autism, I did struggle to understand most of them, but my dad did not seem to have an issue so they probably spoke well enough English. The cleaners I interacted with spoke almost no English, however, but I don't mind that much seeming half the time would be out and about and would not interact with them.

-Misc- The Disco was never opened when I was there and could not find times anywhere in the hotel. I did not ask any staff due to social anxiety, but I feel like there should be times set up next to the disco.

While the lifts were plentiful, they were a bit slow and quite small, only being able to fit 4 adults in and even then, it's a bit of a squeeze.

There was also not much to do, we spent most of our time in our rooms and went out for food. The most time we spent out of the room was to go into town or near the harbour.

Overall, it's a pretty decent hotel if you just want to relax. I, personally, would not go again, but that is because I need constant stimulation to be entertained so if you have an energetic child this might not be the best place.

Tired hotel that requires significant improvement

We booked this hotel as our main family holiday and choose the all inclusive option (2 Adults and 2 kids 11 &12) First impressions were positive, smart tidy hotel with a nice but unique reception area, staff were polite and check in was a breeze.

Our room was a family suite that was divided into two, a main bed room and living area with a pull out bed The pull out bed was akin to a very small hospital bed and would only suit a small individual, our children had to keep swapping each night to see who got the short straw.

The main pool is nice and ideal for younger kids, it is ok to cool off but forget about swimming in it. Around 30% of the sun loungers were old and broken and the rest were a cheap single position type that all could of done with a good clean

The pool area is let down as it is paved in old concrete and really does need updating, there is nothing appealing about it.

Access to a beach club is available and free if you go all inclusive, however if you want to you use the slides then you need to hire rubber rings at 20 Euro's each, 10 Euro's is returned when you return the ring. Food is available but this is worse than the hotels

Now the food, this is as bland and boring as you can get and brings back memories of the first All Inclusive menu's it was dire if you like chips grilled fish and grilled meat everyday then it might suit you but not for us.

Location of the hotels at the top of a hill and in the middle of nowhere, to get to any shops or restaurants then expect to pay 15 Euros each way for a taxi ride This hotel is advertised as 4 star but really it is an average 3 star hotel

A perfect kids oriented, family holiday hotel!

Had a great week here at this hotel, couldn’t really knock it too much! Can massively say the animation team (entertainment for kids and adults) work very hard all day with several activities everyday and have constant things to do and get involved with (not pushy either!). Our kids spent a very small amount of time in the indoor kids club but enjoyed the friendly staff, some time out of the hot sun. Loads of activities around the pool all day long. In the evening the kids disco and entertainment starts at 9 and is always packed out. Food and drink has been very good (all inclusive) and friendly staff too. The hotel is very clean and always see cleaning staff around throughout the hotel. We did go down to the other hotel that’s affiliated with this group of 3 hotels (I think?!) with a mini water park. Buses run between 10-15 minutes constantly between the hotels and then about a 5 minute walk into the complex. Your wrist band seems to work in the other hotels too. Our room was a junior suite with pool view, perfect size for our family of 4. Small kitchenette, sofa bed, shower/bath 2 double beds pushed together in the main room. Onsite shops sells most things and not overly priced as not sure there is any shops in close proximity. Transfer time from Malaga was less than an hour. The all inclusive bars operate a reusable cup system, you’re supposed to get tokens on arrival but we didn’t. Wasn’t a problem, we got cups for drinks and reused them as and when (dirty for clean etc.) Examples of stuff happening all the time throughout the day, foam party by the pool, water polo, crazy golf, kids pool activities, pool aqua robics (not all are on the same day).

Only slight negatives I would say is that the check in process took quite a while on arrival and rooms weren’t ready until 2pm onwards - so if you’re arriving on early flights, you may have to wait around the pool area etc. The sunbeds could do with upgrading to ones that have a moveable back rest and the surrounding area to the pool could do with resurfacing to be a little safer for younger kids. The hotel is rather large and you can get lost easily on the first day or so, as there are many floors and lifts all over the place along with places to exit and enter.

Overall, pleased we booked this hotel and all inclusive, really surpassed our expectations and the kids have loved everything. Can’t thank all the staff enough for a great experience and stay.

Excellent stay with an 11 year old in August

We stayed at the Holiday World Polynesia in August 2026 during the school holidays, for my son's 11th birthday, and had an excellent time.

The hotel is a little out of the way and isn't in the centre of Benalmádena, which was something that initially concerned us before booking. We hired a car from the airport, but we had such a good time at the hotel that we barely used it, taking it out just one day to visit Málaga. There are taxis that wait at the entrance to the hotel.

We stayed in a Junior Suite with a Side view, and it was excellent. We had a view of the sea and water park on one side, and the outdoor theatre on the other. It was a very comfortable room, with two large beds in the main room, and a sofa bed for my son in the living room. It had a fully equipped kitchen, although we didn't really need it as we were all-inclusive, but it was nice to have a fridge. The bathroom was also excellent, with a monsoon shower and a separate bath.

We hadn't previously been on an all-inclusive holiday, but recently in Spain it has become more difficult to spontaneously eat out, with many restaurants requiring reservations.

The food was excellent, with a wide variety of British and Spanish dishes. There was plenty to keep children happy, including pizza, pasta, burgers and hot dogs. And there was plenty of fresh fish like sea bass, grilled meats, salads and paella. Outside of meal times there was also food available at the bar next to the swimming pool.

We never had to queue for drinks, and the drinks were branded rather than generic. The beer was Cruzcampo, the gin was Gordon's. They do have a token system: you hand in a token for your first drink, then return the cup for your next one. This was not strictly enforced; the couple of times we forgot to bring the cups down from our room we were told to just return the new cup before we went up again.

The main pool area was excellent, and the entertainment team and children's club were always organising activities. There was music playing around the pool which was nice and not too loud, the atmosphere was very good.

The "Beach Club" water park was one of the reasons that we booked the hotel, and it did not disappoint. It was particularly good, with a wave pool, a cave pool and loungers in a pool with jacuzzi jets. Food and drinks are also included in the all-inclusive package when you're at the Beach Club.

The best and most unexpected part of the holiday was the evening entertainment. Each of the three hotels in the complex, Polynesia, RIWO and Village, has its own outdoor theatre, and each one puts on a show every night. Guests can also go to the other hotels to see their shows, and use the bars there. The shows were excellent, the Shakira and Rosalia tribute acts could have been the real thing. The magic show and the acrobats were also excellent.

The guests seemed to be roughly half Spanish, with perhaps a third British and the remainder mostly French. The entertainment was in both Spanish and English (which is a good thing).

Our rooms were cleaned every day and the hotel was always very clean.

All in all, I don't think you could find a better place to go on holiday with children, and this was one of the most relaxing holidays I have ever had.

For an 11-year-old, there was a particularly good balance between things to do independently and things to do as a family: the water park, pool activities, children's entertainment and evening shows meant that everyone had a good time.
