Great Stay

Review by grandadjack Morpeth, Northumberland

My wife and I decided to take a 25 night break in Benalmadena to enjoy some Mediterranean sunshine and warmth and chose the Hotel Las Arenas for our accommodation. We would normally choose accommodation nearer to the Marina but decided the hotel’s location was not a big issue as it was only a 15 minute walk to get there. Besides, the reviews we read previously about the Hotel didn’t warrant us rejecting the Hotel purely on its location alone.

On arriving at the hotel, we were checked in by a courteous Receptionist and immediately noticed how light and clean the main foyer area was...

Indeed, this impression was to stay with us for our entire stay as the entire hotel was maintained at an excellent standard. On entering our room, it was well presented in terms of furnishings and fittings and the bathroom was a decent size with a shower positioned over the bath. Our balcony got the sun in the afternoon and early evening so we were able to benefit from that after we spent our day around the pool area and returned to our room for a drink. We did have a problem with our shower bracket but this was quickly replaced within hours of reporting it.

As we were accommodated on a half board basis, we got to use the dining room twice a day and I have to say it was a pleasure to do so. The dining room was light and airy in decor and the staff, although very busy, we’re always pleasant and courteous. I had read a number of reviews stating that the food was repetitive and to be honest I felt it was but on the other hand it was always nicely presented and offered a good choice. My only negative comment about the food is that hot dishes were often only warm but they did have a microwave oven for guests to use if they felt a need to heat their food up further.

The bar and lounge area was again a light and airy venue to enjoy a drink or watch the entertainment. We took the opportunity to benefit from Happy Hour which operated between 5-6 pm each day and offered two drinks for the price of one. The Happy Hour was well supported by guests and some non-residents of the Hotel. The singers who formed the entertainment were good (some better than others), albeit towards the middle and end of our stay they were becoming a little repetitive to listen to. Waiting staff were pleasant and you never waited to be served a drink. We used the SKYBAR a couple of times in the evening but it closed down in the first week of November. The SKYBAR is a lovely facility to finish your day off as you could extend your sunbathing when the pool area became shaded and cold. At night, the multi-coloured fountains helped set the scene for a tranquil setting to have a drink.

We used the pool area most days during our stay. The pool area was only accessible from 9.00 a.m. as the doors to access the pool and sunbathing area had to be unlocked by a cleaner. Some guests didn’t agree with this policy but personally I did as it stopped the early morning towels on sun beds rush. It also allowed all guests to choose the prime sun bed spots at the same time. It is worth noting that the sunbathing area gets shaded and cooler early afternoon causing guests to leave if they couldn’t move to a better position. The pool itself is a negative point as it’s located at the back of the sunbathing area and gets a very limited amount of sun. The water is freezing and no pleasure is gained from swimming in it. Very few guests used this amenity during our stay!! The pool bar provides limited drinks and snacks but closed down at end of October so you could not access any drinks or snacks unless you brought them up from the main bar downstairs. Another negative point I have is that the sunbathing area was sometimes dirty and you could see discarded straws and plastic glasses from the previous day. There were also cigarette butts to be seen on the ground as well as bits of paper etc.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Las Arenas. The accommodation was nicely presented and with the exception of the sunbathing area, it was immaculately kept clean.Staff were very courteous and professional and the entertainment was good. We never went hungry due to a poor choice of food. Yes it is located some 15-20 minutes walking distance away from the Marina but did not present us with any problem. This hotel offers guests a lot of plus points and very few, if any, negative points. I understand the Hotel is changing from the Hotel Symbols brand to the Melia Hotels one in early 2022 but I would be surprised if standards were to drop as both brand names are synonymous with quality accommodation. We would definitely recommend this Hotel to potential guests.

Better than ever

Review by Teardrop47 Wakefield, United Kingdom

We have visited other hotels in the area and remembered this hotel being good.... wrong... it was excellent! The cleanliness of public areas and rooms, the service from the friendly, efficient staff, the choice, quality and presentation of the breakfasts and evening meals were superb...

The measures employed for personal safety were also excellent. Thank you! Looking forward to our return!

Amazing hotel

Review by RandG1978 Banbury, United Kingdom

We stayed at this hotel 6th - 13th November. Prior to arriving, we emailed to request a room detailing our specific preferences. They replied to our email straight away and , on arrival, we were very impressed with the room they had allocated - 412...

The hotel is situated overlooking the beach, opposite Bil Bil Castle.
Covid precautions are very good. Everywhere within the hotel is spotless, the food is excellent and the staff very friendly and professional. There are hand sanitizer stations at various points and most notably, as you enter and leave the restaurant. Before you visit the buffet you have to wear the gloves provided , situated next to another hand sanitizer, and of course wear your mask, except when actually eating. There is also a one way system which helps in self distancing when approaching and leaving the buffet. The bar staff are lovely and drinks prices are average for a hotel, apart from Happy hour from 5- 6pm when you get '2-for-1'. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel from our experience last week.

good location, very clean

Review by JerseyJo Jersey, United Kingdom

Spent 7 nights here in October. Weather was fab everyday. hotel is in a great spot, easy access to the beach and a 20 min walk along the pedestrian sea front to the port...

huge choice of restaurants/bars nearby. hotel has a happy hour that most people took advantage of.

everywhere was spotlessly clean. wearing gloves at breakfast was a bit odd of first, but does make you feel covid safe safe.

roof top bar is stunning and not overpriced. was even being used by locals. room was a bit noisy, but mainly down to other guests. there was entertainment every night but not our cup of tea.

be aware this time of year that the pool (which is freezing) loses sun early.

would recommend a cost to the old town to see a more traditional spain.

Lovely hotel

We stayed for a 4 night stay and could not fault this hotel. We stayed in a superior room (402) and well worth paying the extra, huge wrap around balcony, lovely bathroom with toiletries and dressing gowns, huge bed, tea/coffee , the hotel is spotlessly clean with lovely friendly staff and a massive Thankyou to the receptionist who helped me with the PLF form which I was struggling with. Some lovely restaurants within a few mins walk ...

We will definitely return
