Generally a good experience. The rooms have been refurbished to a good standard. Disappointed that we couldn’t get a few extra milks on day one, told quite firmly it was one milk per person per day, yet 2 tea bags and 4 coffee sachets were supplied on the tray. Also the ice machine has been removed since our last visit and we were told to go to pool bar for ice. She refused quite rudely to give us any ice and wanted to charge €2.5 for six ice cubes. We also had to move rooms as the tv could be heard from the next door room very loud till gone 01:30 was impossible to sleep, the move was dealt with efficiently, maybe a volume restriction on the tv as they are now sited on the wall rather than on the dressing table. The pool bar happy hour is now only for one hour on Mon-Thurs, (used to be for 2 hrs and every day) which is a bit silly as the hotel is missing out on bar sales, as not many drinks are bought outside of ‘happy hour’.The queue at the lounge bar in the evening was always very long, so more staff are needed. Evening Entertainment is good, Sean, the Irish singer is just fantastic. The food was great and the head chef was very helpful, nothing too much trouble. Have stayed at this hotel many times and we will return as we still like it - but its not as good as it used to be.
Hi we have just come back from three weeks at the Angela it’s a very popular Hotel and we have stayed before.
What went wrong this time one of the main problems is the Wi-Fi they advertise a high speed service it’s not, reception said they could help they couldn’t they actually said go out for the day don’t worry about the Wi-Fi but I said please try to fix as it’s a poor service.
The other issue was at check in we got told you have come to stay with us to celebrate your Golden Wedding Anniversary we said yes they told us we would have a surprise on our special day the 10th November the 10th came no surprise we were excited about our surprise what was it going to be ? Chocolates ? Flowers? The dinning room staff singing to us ? No nothing I asked reception and got told we will get our surprise on the 11th a day late oh we thought that’s not good the next day I visited reception several times each time I got told your surprise is coming eventually that evening we got a bottle of Cava delivered to our room it’s 2.50 euros at the local supermarket that was our surprise we weren’t impressed then during our stay we watched in the dinning room during the evening meal persons getting a birthday cake with glasses of bubbly and singing by the staff we got nothing I asked the head waiter do they do it for anniversary’s he said yes if the reception informs him they did not for us.
We went to the Angela to celebrate our anniversary but it was most disappointing.
We won’t be back
We have stayed at the Angela on many occasions, unfortunately it has gone down hill since our last visit. The food has always been hit and miss, but this year it was virtually impossible to put an evening meal together. Leading to us having to eat out. The food at breakfast was ok with plenty of choice. At the evening meal the joints of meat were sitting in water. I can only think that it was to keep it moist, not at all inviting. We reported this to the Tui rep, who mentioned that the choice of food at evening time had been reported to him by other guests. This in our opinion is not a four star hotel, may be three star at best. The draft beer served was terrible, with most beer drinkers drinking bottled or canned beer. This situation needs to be addressed by the management if they want to retain the level of customers. Apart from this all staff work very hard and are always pleasant. These problems are easy fixable if more attention is given to the food and drink problem.
Almost straight away we were offered a upgrade , even though we had requested a room on the evening sun side. Side of the hotel. We were given a standard room which I had no sun and told we would have to pay £105 extra to have a room onthe poolside of the building even where all the work was supposed to be going on. The room supposedly an upgrade was no different to the room with no afternoon sun.
Lovely holiday, we emailed in advance asking for the room we had on our last visit, the reply said they couldn’t guarantee anything, but we were delighted when we were allocated the room on arrival, many thanks. We had paid for side sea view & were on the sunny side, weather was fantastic best we’d ever had in November, our balcony had sun all afternoon, perfect.
Restaurant staff were brilliant, food good, shame carvery meat was sliced & put in gravy so didn’t dry out, as mentioned in previous review, we would prefer it freshly cut, but dinner & breakfast choices were good, tables cleared promptly & couldn’t fault it.
Yes building work going on at the hotel, but didn’t bother us.
I’d say public areas are 4* the restaurant, lounge & reception areas are lovely, but bedrooms could do with some attention & more like 3*. Room was cleaned to a good standard, towels could have been better they didn’t smell very fresh. Fridge & safe in room, comfy bed & nice bedding, also a kettle & few teabags, coffee etc refilled daily. Shower gel in dispenser on wall, small soap for handwashing but would be nice to also have a hand-wash gel dispenser too, good hair dryer.
Loads of shops & bars close by, lovely beach a couple of minutes walk. Large supermarket with everything you need short walk. Whim store also had loads of stuff, fresh milk, cheap beer etc just turn left out of hotel. Tuesday market good.
Happy hour brilliant, entertainment ok. Good TV in room with plenty of English channels.
Pool area had plenty of sun beds, snack bar understaffed & very warm could have done with air con, prices not as cheap as bars, but food good.
Very disappointed with the Tui bus transfers, sat waiting for over an hour on the bus on arrival & on return to airport picked up at 4 other hotels, it took over an hour, next time will book own transfers as the airport is only 20 minutes away. Bus doesn’t drop or pick you outside the hotel it’s at the top of the road.
We will definitely return, love the area & hotel good value for money.
Thanks Hotel Angela for a lovely holiday.
