Torremolinos

The first Costa del Sol resort to be developed and still one of the most popular, Torremolinos is known for its sandy beaches, nightlife and shopping.

When to go

The Costa del Sol and Torremolinos offer an average of 300 days of sunny days each year with temperatures reaching 30℃ in summer and staying in the high-teens in winter months. The cooling breezes on the Mediterranean coast take the edge of high temperatures, making for perfect beach holiday conditions.

Top Attractions

Torremolinos may be a small town, but there are plenty of things to do. Within the town of Torremolinos, pedestrianised streets offer a wealth of shopping opportunities from souvenir shops to small boutiques. Calle San Miguel, located down by the beach, is the main area for shopping in Torremolinos.

The botanical gardens are also open to visit. Here you can see water features and original flour mills among all the wildlife.

The Bull Ring (although no longer used for bullfighting) hosts the Festival of Colours and a public market to enjoy.

La Carihuela is the former fishing district of Torremolinos with a beachfront that connects to nearby Benalmadena. Its open-fronted shops and restaurants offer a view of the Mediterranean sea.

The capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga is also just a short journey away.

Beaches

Torremolinos boasts a 7 km stretch of beachfront with six main beaches. Playa de Bajondillo is the most lively and colourful of them all. It offers shops, bars and restaurants to keep you entertained and the beach is well-equipped with parasols and sun loungers.

Playamar beach is the most popular for those wanting to carry out water sports. Los Alamos beach is the most secluded in Torremolinos and is ideal for avoiding crowds during the day. At night, it is one of the busiest places in town.

Culture

To take in a bit of history and culture of Torremolinos, visit Casa de la Navajas, a 20th Century mansion built in traditional Spanish medieval style.

Dining

There are over 300 restaurants to be found in Torremolinos all with different cuisines. There are many chiringuitos (small bars) on the beach serving up tapas and barbequed fish to sample.

Entertainment

Torremolinos is known as one of the liveliest resorts on the Costa del Sol. It has more varied attractions than any of the other resorts and is perfect for seeing flamenco shows, visiting cabaret bars and taking part in karaoke night.

Since it became a more pedestrianised area, the Plaza Costa del Sol is the new hub of the town. Torremolinos also has numerous bars catering for the LGBTQ community.

Adventure and Sports

Like most places in the Costa del Sol there are many water sports to take part in, and surf and paddle boards can all be rented as well as jet-skis and snorkelling gear.

The crocodile park located close to the botanical gardens are home to around 300 crocodiles and is perfect for animal lovers.

Torremolinos is home to the Costa del Sol’s first ever golf course. Located on the seaside, it’s good for a swing.

As Benalmadena is a short walk down the coastline, you can reach the Sea Life Aquarium and the largest water park on the Costa del Sol, Aqualand, in no time. The Parque de la Bateria is a public park full of free exercise machines, a running track and a children’s playground for those who want to keep up with their fitness whilst on holiday.

Throughout Torremolinos, there are areas with tennis and badminton courts available to play.

Getting Around

Being a seaside town, cars are not necessary to travel around although they can be rented if required. Otherwise, bikes, mopeds and electric scooters are all available to rent for your stay and taxis public busses are also available. Torremolinos is only a 10-minute train journey from Malaga airport, making transfers smooth and enjoyable.
