Friendly, warm and nice feel about the place. I would recommend.

Review by wayned711 London, United Kingdom

We visited club drago hotel in April / May 2022. This was a 2 week family early summer holiday.

Our holiday is nearly up and we will be very sad to leave.

There is a very warm and safe feel about the place and there doesn’t feel like there are too many of those loud and overbearing people who you would normally find on these types of holidays. (Some are maybe a bit louder than most, which some disregard for the other guests - but everywhere will have one it seems. Paying a bit extra isn’t going to change that!

Costa Calma isn’t what I would consider to be the party capital of the canaries, but as a 40+ then that isn’t really what I’m looking for anymore (maybe never have!)

There are some nice long sandy beaches in the nearby area with wind / kite surfers and other recreational outdoor activities to enjoy.

The area is quite hilly, especially getting to and from the beach, so if your mobility is limited then it’s probably not going to be the place for you!

There are closer hotels to the beach, but the 30 minute walk suited us...

They do also provide free regular bus services to and from the beach and this is probably the nearest hotel you will find from the Oasis Aninal Park - which is well worth a visit!

Back to the hotel...

The pool is of a three leafed clover type in shape and is enclosed on all four corners from the hotel lay out. There is a lot of seating / lounging space, with no more of a prime spot from another, which gives you an extra feeling of having your own surroundings to enjoy. The pool area is very clean. The staff are out every morning washing the surfaces and the pool attendant is present all day, cleaning the pool and it’s surroundings.

The drinks and food which is designed to be consumed around the pool area is on paper cups and plates. So there should be no risk of there being broken glass and crockery to cut yourself on. (Obviously there will always be the odd idiot who is unable to eat their dinner at the table, or binge and take drinks and food back to their rooms or near to their rooms and leave out for someone else to clear up) There is entertainment provided and there was also a kids club. But it’s one guy and the entertainment is in the background and will not impact on the people who would rather chill out in peace. (The daytime kids club was also not on during our second week, which was a shame. But it wasn’t the school holidays and it wasn’t very busy, so that was understandable. Also, for the same reasons the marillyn bar didn’t open during our stay, so it was drinks at the pool bar during the day and drinks at the top bar during the evening. (Maybe these things will change during the busier times)

The pool bar serves lunch and other snacks in the morning and early afternoon. And the main restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. (We were even treated one evening meal to some live music)

The times to eat your food is quite long and there is plenty of food and choice (contrary to some reviews) and the food quality is more than acceptable!)

Entertainment in the evening has been a bit limited. Only the one bar to get drinks from, only the same one chap doing the kids disco and a bingo or a quiz. They’re are plenty of other areas to take your drinks out to. You can play pool, but there are no other areas to watch TV and they do not have any of the sports packages.

The rooms are clean, the maids are in every day and they do more of a clean than you would expect and sometimes I have felt quite guilty about how untidy I have left the room!

There is also a gym to make the use of, a squash court, table tennis, darts, pétanque. Maybe these areas could be in better condition and would benefit from a bit of money spent on them and other areas, in order to freshen the place up a bit. But during this bery uncertain time during COVID, they’ve really done well to get the place back up and running - clearly after suffering like all resorts massively with the financial implications.

It maybe a bit old fashioned in some areas, there maybe be as many French, German and Dutch people here as there are British. But if the people who read this are easy going and can ignore the minor details, then there is little to be disappointed about with this place.

Nice to chill out by the pool and beach but need to travel to see much else.

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly and helpful the rooms and all areas were kept clean. My family really liked the food...

As a vegetarian it is a bit limited but the breads cheeses and salads were very nice, you could put together some nice meals with a bit of inventiveness but there wasn't a vegetarian dish every day. If you were a vegan it would pretty much be salad and veg all week, maybe contact the hotel first. Lunch at the pool bar was nice but even more limited for vegetarians!

Local all inclusive drinks till 11pm then you had to pay. You could buy branded drinks and they weren't that expensive. The local beer was ok but a bit repetitive. The wines were also ok. You could buy bottles for your meal if you wanted to upgrade.

Pool was very nice, looked great, just about enough loungers to usually find one when we were there, sometimes you had to drag them about. Usual issue with towels out long before they were in use but as I said not too much of a problem when we were there.

We went in April it was hot enough to get burnt and sun bathe but there was quite a chill wind some days, despite the pool being surrounded on all sides the wind blew down!

A few shops and an African market on twice a week but not too much to do locally but that was not really what we went for. Booked a catamaran trip one day which was good. The beaches are quite nice but quite a lot of nude bathing on all the beaches - quite a lot of old guys wandering up and down the beach front letting it all hang out. After a few days, we got quite used to it though, it's only bodies at the end of the day! There is a regular free bus service into town and the beach.

The gym is not great, you have book max 4 at a time but this is in a way a good thing because there is hardly any working equipment! Was easy to book first thing each day. Both runners were broken and the stepper sounded like it was on the way out. There were no proper end stops for the weights so we used foam handles. Despite this we went every day and got some sort of work out.

The entertainment seemed fairly popular, quizzes, keep fit and games for the kids, my son played some water polo, the kids area looked good but mine were too big. Pool and air hockey was available for a euro or 2 a game and we played that quite a lot

Rooms were clean and spacious, shower was fine. Beds were comfortable and room was quiet. Next door smoked so we often didn't want to sit on the balcony but I can't really blame the hotel for this. Safe required a rental charge and no tea / coffee or fridge, but we just got up and went for breakfast or got drinks and snacks at the pool. Timings were ok you could get a drink or snack most of the day but little overlap with food and drinks, so the pool bar shut at about 6 then you had to go up to the main bar, so we kind of fell into a routine of where we had to be when.

Overall we wanted somewhere with some early sun, to chill out by the pool and visit the beach, not do too much all inclusive without costing a bomb and this ticked all the boxes for us so would definitely recommend for this.

First time in this resort and hotel. I was booked for an all exclusive plus holiday but I believe the extra was a dressing gown which was small and scratchy along with a basket of fruit and bottle of water. Overall this hotel is set up for European people as is this resort...

Type of food, timing of food, snacks, satellite tv only had 1 English Channel. In the resort itself i could not find a bar which showed English sports and I have never known that on any of my holidays. The gym was an accident waiting to happen, machines broken and spinning bikes which made the loudest noise I have ever known. You pay extra for the room safe and when I asked for a few hours grace prior to pick up I was told I would have to pay 20 euro. Room was nice, shower was hot and powerful and the pool area was nice, comfy loungers and chairs a few levels above the main restaurant. Staff on reception were polite but when I asked about things (gym) I was just getting fobbed off. Cleaners and restaurant staff were lovely and a credit to the hotel. I had a lovely holiday exploring the island but I would not return to this resort or hotel

Last minute break

Review by 312leannee Shepton Mallet, United Kingdom

You get what you pay for. This for us was a last minute get away. Reception staff were polite on arrival and throughout our stay...

Rooms were clean and tidy (bed sheets only changed once, towels changed daily) although a bit tired looking. Breakfast had a great choice, although my boys would have liked omelette at the egg station but not an option. Lunch was at the pool restaurant different choice of meat each day but rest of choice was the same. Evening meals had a few great choices which changed everyday. Again restaurant staff were all hard working and lovely. Swimming pool was superbly clean. Cups and rubbish cleared from bins throughout the day. Activities were good and these were by far the best staff, happy, smiley and energetic.

Now for the not so good. If you like a cuppa when you wake up make sure you take your own. Nothing available until breakfast. I really missed this. I think this should be included in every room. Lounge bar staff were miserable. Pool towels available but only with a cash deposit. Wasn’t expecting that! Food - looking at what we had on a daily basis I would say a lot of the food was reused the following day eg we had fresh cooked prawns and mussels one evening and then cold prawns and mussels at lunch. Chips/potatoes in the evening also there at breakfast.

Overall not bad

Fabulous place to stay

Came here with my partner for a week and had a smashing time.Room was spacious and clean and very comfortable. Poolside was great space to sit in, ample sun beds.Staff just couldn’t do enough for you and they work very hard. Drinks are ample and good choice...

Food was also really good, something to eat at every meal. Some reviews say food not great but honestly if your expecting to eat British food, stay in Britain…sample local stuff if on holiday…try something different! There is a wee mini market 5 mins away from hotel if you want a cheeky wee preseco in your room before dinner! The only slight draw back is being a little away from the centre…but that’s what legs are for…go explore the beach and central Costa Calma! We got a bus into Mora Jabble from the big round about ,5 minute walk from hotel…reception will let you know where… costs 5.60 Euro for two…plenty buses back! We walked up the Pica de la Zaza on day 2 , highest point on the island and views over Coefette Bay spectacular! started from Occidental just inside Morris Jabble. It’s a decent 4 hr hike…. Take water and don’t do on a hot day like we did! Also recommend hiring a bike from Volcano Bikes…again 5 mins walk from hotel. Adrian there is a super star… assures you if you get a problem they will come get you. We cycled to Morra Jabble and back…50 km… it was doable with reasonable fitness…the wind back…well that was something else 😂.Loved the Drago Park… thank you, you all work so hard to please 🙏would deffo recommend!👍
