- Gloria Palace Amadores Thalasso and Hotel

This great beach hotel, built in 2003, is very nicely located in the tourist centre of Amadores, it is approximately 1 km from the local sandy beach and its crystal clear waters. The local promenade is a great place where guests will find a variety of leisure possibilities. Convenient public transport links are very close to the hotel. Numerous boutiques and shops, restaurants and a wide range of bars can be found in the surroundings. This is a lively place to spend active holidays by the sea.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Everything we wanted. Could not be happier. The room was ground floor and facing the infinity pool at the quiet side. Hotel staff could not do enough for us. The chambermaid kept our room spotless. The hotel was quiet around the rooms. No noise from suit cases on the corridors. The food was excellent and plenty of choice. The bar staff in the reception area was second to none (5*). Plenty of entertainment during the day and evening. We were not far from Puerto Rico town and not far from Amadores beach, 2 mins in a taxi ( 4 Euros ). As for value for money this hotel was excellent. Will be highly recommending it to friends and family. We hope to be returning next year.
Last year we spent an amazing week at the Royal Palace Hotel in Gran Canaria, and this year we wanted to repeat the experience. However, as our hotel was undergoing renovations, we chose the sister hotel instead. Given its higher rating of 4 stars superior, we expected a similarly excellent stay.
Unfortunately, this was not the case.
The location and views are outstanding, but the level of service was very inconsistent. In the restaurant, we overheard staff discussing recreational drugs and partying among themselves, as casually as if they were in their own living rooms, and making remarks about the guests. This kind of behaviour is never acceptable, though to be fair, it points more to a management issue, particularly when staff feel they can behave this way without consequence.
We also experienced an incident in the restaurant one evening. Management came to apologise and assured us that the staff member involved would be removed. However, the same staff member was still working the following evening, which left us feeling unsafe in that environment.
For a 4 star superior hotel, the food quality also fell short. Around 90 percent of the desserts were prefabricated, powdered mousses in various flavours, along with prefabricated frozen cakes that were often still frozen when served. The food overall was uneven, much like the restaurant staff. Some dishes were good, but none were great across our seven days, and too often the food was overcooked, dry, and ultimately wasted.
Gran Canaria is not a green island, but placing three cacti on our balcony, two of which appeared to have been dead for at least six months, was not a great touch. Removing them entirely would have been a better choice, lava stones would have suited the setting far better than dead plants.
There were, of course, many good aspects of the hotel. The receptionists provided excellent service throughout our stay. But when service levels are this inconsistent, it becomes easy to focus on the weaker points, such as the pool bar staff serving powdered instant coffee when real coffee had been requested, done by asking us to take a seat, saying they would bring it over, then simply pressing a button for a machine cappuccino tasting of coffee and milk powder.
We sent our feedback directly to the hotel management after our stay. We received no reply. Some time later, we noticed the dead cacti on our balcony had quietly been removed. No explanation, no acknowledgment, just a silent fix. To us, this says a great deal. A resort hotel is a living organism, and its staff should be able to see it through the eyes of their guests, noticing what is broken, dead, or missing, and acting on it before being told. This hotel is reactive, not proactive, and that difference shapes the entire experience.
Our stay has been good, but a disappointment given the choice of hotel we made.
Absolutely fantastic stay here, room was new renovated was lovely nice and big cleaned everyday, staff were lovely esp Rumon pool bar I think this is how you spell his name was so friendly nothing a bother. Pool lovely and view is amazing. The lift to promenade was off but did come back on our second week.Food was ok if you want a snack you can go to snack bar burgers ect we were all inclusive plus end of our holiday we got a bill for magnum lollies as weren’t included did not really bother us we will certainly be returning in the future thankyou again for our great stay
Our stay here was phenomenal and I highly recommend this hotel.
Location: The location of this hotel is great. It is right next to a beautiful beach. The transfer from airport is simple and easy, and the view from the hotel is beautiful. The hotel is built into a cliffside, so you do have to walk up and down a hill to get to the beach and other close by areas. However, that being said I can not fault the location.
Atmosphere: Everyone here (especially staff) are friendly, polite and can not do more to help make your stay perfect. This hotel was ideal for a calm and relaxing holiday. It’s peaceful and very laid back.
Rooms: Although me and my partner did not get an ideal room (partial sea view), this did not bother us. The rooms and balcony are clean, spacious. Rooms have more than enough space in the wardrobe and cupboards to store all clothes and other items. The rooms are not outdated and have everything you will need in them (kettle, coffee machine, bath and shower, etc). Rooms are cleaned daily and if you need anything restocked (such as water) it will be done without you even asking.
Value: For the price we payed (all inclusive plus package) I think it was good value for money, food is fresh and meat is cooked in front of you. The hotel is clean and tidy. Atmosphere is great and drinks all tasted great ( this hotel is also not stingy with alcohol in cocktails and other alcoholic drinks). The view is serine and the local is peaceful and quiet. The spa, gym and other facilities were superb and you have no issue using these facilities and they were not too busy.
Food and restaurant: Restaurant is clean and there is always a clean table to sit at even at the busiest of times. Regarding allergies, I can not recommend this restaurant enough. As someone with a severe nut and seafood allergy travelling to hotels with a buffet is stressful, however, the restaurant staff could not have been more accommodating. I was able to eat a different variety of food everyday for all three meals and nothing felt too repetitive. Any food that did contain my allergens or there was a risk of cross contamination, the chefs were more than happy to make you your own dish separately, removing allergens or just to avoid any cross contamination from the buffet. The food was fresh and delicious. My partner who is more adventurous with food was delighted by the variety of food daily and the amount of fresh fish there was during our stay.
Staff: The staff here are absolutely outstanding. Everyone makes you feel welcome, they’re polite and very friendly. I wanted to specifically mention how amazing the entertainment staff were (Kamil and Patryk). They’re wonderful, and very easy to talk to and have a conversation with.
Noise: Me and my partner had no issue with noise, our room was on the 3rd floor in the 4th block right next to the entertainment (arguably the most noisy area) however we did not find the noise an issue or unbearable. Spending most of the day outside or by the pool, the noise from the entertainment or people walking in the corridor did not bother us.
However, all that being said there are some improvements that we think can be made.
To summarise, this hotel is a 10/10 and I high recommend this hotel if you want to go on holiday to Gran Canaria !!
Our 3rd visit to this hotel in last 6 years. A superb position on the cliff with direct access to the coastal path with short walks to Puerto Rico harbour or Amadores beach. Hotel rooms are very nice clean and comfortable . Lower Blocks 3 and 4 directly overlook cliff with view over coast path to sea. Upper blocks overlook pools with view out to sea too. Main bars are very good with waiting staff going round regularly taking orders for drinks. Restaurant has good quality hot and cold buffet and some served from counter hot food and some barbeque nights. Always good selection of different food. Smaller outside balcony area on restaurant and larger area seating inside. Pigeons can be occasionally annoying outside but still very nice. Staff always helpful and friendly.
