🏖️ Family Stay at Hotel Orquídea – Early October 👨👩👧👶 Overview
We stayed at the hotel in early October as a family, across two rooms — three adults and two children (aged 5 years and 4 months).
🚐 Transfer & Arrival
The transfer from the airport was quick, and finding the bus was easy. Check-in at the hotel felt a bit rushed, possibly because we arrived late. No one mentioned using the TUI Blue app to find meeting or activity times, which we only discovered later in the holiday.
👥 Staff & Service
Some hotel staff were friendly and helpful, while others seemed a bit moody and could have been more approachable. The TUI entertainment team, however, were fantastic — full of energy and brilliant with the kids.
🏨 Hotel & Facilities
The hotel complex itself was very nice. The pools were clean and well kept; the kids’ pool had a slide, and there was also a fun splash pad area. The hotel activities and evening entertainment were good, with something different to enjoy each night.
🍹 Drinks
The all-inclusive drinks were generally good, though the cocktail servings could have been a bit larger.
🍽️ Food
This was the main downside for us.
The snack bar was disappointing compared to other hotels we’ve stayed at — limited options and below-average quality.
The Tavern restaurant, which you could visit once per week on the all-inclusive plan, was excellent with great service and tasty food.
We didn’t eat at El Sultan, as it wasn’t included in the all-inclusive package.
The main buffet restaurant was okay but not great — food quality varied, and there didn’t seem to be a clear theme each night. It could also get very busy, though the overflow seating in another dining area was a good solution.
Breakfast was average; it would have been nice to see more variety or rotation of options, as it became a bit repetitive.
🛏️ Room (Las Pitas Apartments)
We stayed in the Las Pitas apartments, which are set away from the main hotel. After reading reviews, we were worried about access with cases, but there are two sloped walkways to reach different levels, so it wasn’t as bad as expected. Finding our rooms was easy thanks to the map provided at check-in, and the area was well lit at night.
The rooms were spacious and fairly clean, though a little dated with a few cosmetic issues.
✅ Overall Impression
Overall, we’d recommend Hotel Orquídea for families with young children — it’s fun, well-equipped, and the entertainment team really stand out. However, for the price, we’re not sure we’d return due to the food quality and the apartments being located away from the main hotel.
We have just stayed at the Las Pitas apartments for a week. The grounds are really lovely and everywhere is kept spotless. The main pool area is great especially if you have little ones it can be quite busy so if you like it a bit quieter Playa Feliz has a nice big pool and baby pool and is much quieter there. There is a nice walk that way by the sea and a a little kids playground where our little one enjoyed a run round. There is also a bigger playground in the main hotel which was great as well. There is good variety of food in the main restaurant and we found enough for our little one to eat everyday. Just a few things I feel let the complex down. Our apartments are rated 4* however they are quite dated and at best I would say they should be rated 3*. We didn’t spend too much time there as it is a bit out of the way of the main hotel but they are nice and quiet. Air con unit is very dated and there is only air con in the main living area and not the bedroom so night times could be quite stuffy. If you have a little one unless you book them into the kids club there isn’t much in the way of facilities for them to enjoy. The kids play room was a sorry state with a ball pool that could have had more balls in it and a few very old toys. It was really tired and felt quite unclean. My little one found the little tykes cars but we weren’t allowed to play in that area as it was for baby club only! All in all we had a lovely week here and for the price we paid for all inclusive we can’t complain however there are a couple of improvements that could be made to justify it being rated 4*.
Our apartment was the furthest one from the hotel complex and up a hill. There were slopes and steps and although other reviewers had complained about this we didn’t find this an issue. It was actually a nice walk to and from our apartment and was quieter away from the hotel. The apartment was clean and comfortable. It was my grandson’s birthday while we were there and we left his cards displayed on a table. When we came back to our base the housekeeping staff had put balloons in the apartment, a really lovely thing to do. We were very pleased with our stay and would recommend Las Pitas
Booked a a TUI BLUE 4 star
described as a hotel tucked in the grounds of its larger sister hotel the Orquidea
This is not 4 star accommodation but barely 2 star, vey tired & dated "apartment accommodation " with NO separate facilities/ restaurants/ bar. Sold as "a hotel " tucked away in the grounds of its sister hotel.
What is not clear, is that the resources / facilities at the Orquuidea are shared with 2 other hotels/ apartment" residences " the Playa Feliz well as Tres Vidas as well as Las Pitas over 400 residences on top of hotel guests.
Consequently there is massive overcrowding to the point of making for a loud and a stressful experience, compromising health & safety in all areas ... this is not offering a 4 star experience .
Only 1 restaurant 1 snack bar servicing all inclusive & catered guest at the Orquidea . ( the taverna was prebookable for all inclusive guests for 1 evening ( with a very limited but well a cooked & served meal), the only other restaurant was chargeable & largely unused . A serious lack of quite relaxed spaces even for a " family hotel"
(Note: could use the pool and snack bar at Playa Feliz over the other side of the complex )
Restaurant food choice / range is wide but this significantly compromised food quality. The wine was on draught 3 colours and undrinkable as were soft drinks & cocktails , which were syrup based . Stick to draught beer / cava / water / or spirit mix .
Other drinks were vending machines if you like / need coffee you have to buy it at Thea's !
The pools were overcrowded and frequently badly supervised. Swim classes & "pool activities" close off part of the main pool , meanwhile there was the lane pool - which was chargeable & attached to the gym .It stood unused most of the time we were there! .
A number of health & safety issues were observed raised with staff at the time . Better management & maintenance should have avoided these issues as a norm . For example - Pools closed 3 days running due to deification contamination .
Staff however, are to be commended, friendly & helpful , hardworking / overworked considering the pressure of numbers and demands put on them . Grounds are also beautifully maintained. I read recent reviews before I booked , however should have read the 1 and 2 star reviews...sadly they are accurate ; painting over mould , another layer of adhesive vinyl does not constitute repair or maintenance . Lack of air conditioning n bedroom, a thin 10cm foam mattress is not comfort. No toileteries in the very tired shower room, except I small soap dispenser at the basin is not 4 star TUI you can - must do better if you are selling this a a 4star BLUE
Had a holiday at Las Pitas apartments as 2 adults and 2 children. We were hoping the apartments would be quiet and of good standard but we were sadly very disappointed. Firstly, it loud. From your room you can hear the people in the apartment next to you very clearly. For us the neighbours got up at 6 and came back at 11, always waking up the kids. Secondly the apartment was not to a good 4star standard, we had a 2star apartment in Menorca last year which was a better standard. As for the hotel itself, the restaurant is far too busy. Our children couldn’t cope with the business of it which made the experience terrible. The actual food is not bad. But it’s over crowded. Same with the pools. There is no swimming to be had because it’s so busy. You can hardly move in the pool. Overall our experience here was not good. I would definitely not recommend this hotel due to the standard of room or the over crowdedness. We will not be visiting Gran Canaria again
