Please read as confused reviews about 2 differing resorts.

Review by Max M London, United Kingdom

This resort is not the Dunas Suites and Villas (we can see reviews on here written about that resort which is next door and is kind of aligned with the Maspalomas by Dunas resort. To be clear, this resort is numerous chalet style ‘villas’ surrounding 2 pools and a kids splash park. It is one gate away from the Suites and Villas which is a different armband colour and is NOT the same resort...

We stumbled on the other resort by walking the perimeter and finding 3 additional pools and a splash area. Only one pool of ALL the pools was heated and it wasn’t in our resort.

So, Maspalomas Resort by Dunas pros:

*Winter sun (21-24) mostly sunny days *In inclusive options and a varied buffet *Staff couldn’t do enough and from the cleaner to restaurant staff they all Hola and smile. Maria the cleaner was fab! *loungers - they put signs on them about not leaving towels and the pool areas aren’t open until after 10am. There were always loungers at all times of the day at all pools. *gardens and surrounding areas were always busy with maintenance and workmen. They really do look after the place. *they were quick to resolve issues (see cons shortly) *culturally mixed. We love the Dutch and there were definitely more Dutch than any other nationalities, do you don’t get the beer swillers or football chanters. *very safe to walk around *Room location was fabulous next to the pool.

  • the kids disco starts at 7:30 (much earlier than other countries). So you could have dinner and then the kids could run about early. *football pitch on-site which if you have boys is a real bonus. It was great to see so many nationalities merge with the game.

Cons: *upon arrival you think you’re entering a back door. There is zero curb-appeal to the hotel frontage. If I guessed it would be that years back it was the back! *as with many Mediterranean countries- information is lacking! We stumbled on a chap at a desk near the restaurant and only on listening in, did we realise you had to book for Christmas Day. We had asked on arrival if there was any bookable options and were told no. This happened twice. Another was a woman asked if we wanted to go to the pool side bbq (didn’t know there was one) and apparently you could book any night. But to be honest upon trying it, the main buffet was better. #drinks - poor choices for all inc and mostly unbranded. *beds are solid! After night one we requested a change and an hour later we had new beds and toppers.

  • rooms are dated. Shower barely has power, Also no bath taps so with children, you have to let the dribbling shower head make a bath. *the weirdest room furnishing. A huge space but no dressing table or drawers. We had to use the dining table as a wardrobe. *the chalet had an outside area which one day housed an outdoor shower. But you’ve ripped out the shower and done nothing with it. Wasted space. *there are NO warm pools. Only in the other resort. You can use the other resort pool but aren’t allowed to use any other facilities. Yet the other resort came into use the football courts, Santa arrival and certain activities. It does all seem a bit them and us. Nothing about the 2 resorts is clear, you have to find out everything for yourself. They however don't have the kids football play pitch, a real bonus for this hotel if you have boys. *kids club. Our youngest loves to draw or paint or be creative and day to day the creative club was colouring! One day we had a lovely girl (I want to remember her name but can’t, maybe Evelina or something like that) she was great and handled a really tough situation with a really naughty and aggressive boy abandoned by his 2 mothers. But day 2 a different girl barely looked up from a large frame she was sticking crap onto for their Santa event. I couldn’t leave my child and then didn’t wish to return. It is not kids club, it’s colouring. In the evening the same girl was doing the kids disco and she had shortened every track! So weird. *extra charges for everything! Safe, towels, pool, air hockey, ice lollies even when all inclusive. *gym! We snuck into the other resort as their gym had weights. The gym here is on the roof terrace which is lovely and under utilised (stick a bar up there) but needs completely updating

All in all this is a 3* but there is balance to the offering.

Review by FamilySweden1234 Norrkoping, Sweden

Perfect resort and friendly staff. Short walking distance to the beach. Activities for the kids. Nice bungalows...

Well maintained gardens. We like the upgrade of the restaurant. We only missed a padel court ;)

We had a very nice stay at the Maspalomas resort by Dunas. We had a warm welcome reception, clean rooms, perfectly maintained pool and garden... Various buffet with something to eat for everyone...

We might come back to this hotel.

Nice resort with poor rooms and lacking facilities

Review by Bfrealnose Sydney, Australia

On first glance, a really lovely and tidy resort, but unfortunately there are a lot of huge gaps:

Rooms don't have heating and they get really chilly at night, very tricky to get a toddler warm after a bath.

Bathroom is super tired, shower head barely has any water pressure, definitely not enough for a woman to wash her hair with.

Tub is so old, it's scraped and looks yucky to put your child into.

Elevator in hotel area not working and nobody can be seen working on it.

Pools are all ice cold. Tye hotel advertised heatable pools which is no good if that feature is not used in winter. Again too cold for a toddler even in the kiddie pool.

There are lots of nice things here and it's all fine for a week, but I widh I had brought warmer clothes for inside the room for me and my daughter...

Overall for €1200 per person (also for the child), there are too many drawbacks. Bit like a very expensive youth hostal.

Great stay

Maspalomas Resort offers (split) bungalows which seem to be in a good condition. There were some reviews mentioning hard beds, but we had no problems with them and were able to sleep well. The food for Buffet style was very good and changed every day and they are willing to accommodate intolerances for certain food types. We see no reason to not come back on a later day to Maspalomas Resort to continue our visit to Gran Canaria.
