A wonderful vacation

The location of this hotel is perfect. Right on top of a beautiful beach and a super luxurious shopping centre. The hotel is clean and beautifully kept...

the gardens are exquisite.

We enjoyed a family holiday over the Christmas / New year period and have just returned home.

I would thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone.

The only thing we would have enjoyed is a little more entertainment. The hotel needs a little more for children in terms of activities and entertainment in the evening. The shows were so early. 20.30 I think. So there was never anybody in the bar and the poor performers so a show for nobody. People start to come in to the bar when they finish which is a shame. New years Eve was amazing with the singers outside. The next night two lovely girls were singing Abba songs to an empty bar with no atmosphere. We felt very sorry for them. it was much better outside. We had a wonderful holiday. Thank you.

5 Star

Review by AmberSpiers1965 Carrickfergus, United Kingdom

Friendly staff. Always cleaning. Food unbelievable - though loads of fish but has meat and veggie variety...

Allergen advice and gluten and lactose free choices. Free fruit on arrival. The pictures of the rooms don’t do it justice- bigger and better. Good balcony. Hot milk with your coffee. Two towels per sun bed if you want them each day. Lovely setting. Sauna, salt bath. Spa all good. Salt pool and jacuzzi lovely and warm. Definitely an older clientele at this time of the year but all good. Relaxing stay. Would recommend.

A mixed week but a recommendation for my parents.

Review by JamesT1799 York, United Kingdom

My wife and I arrived at the Seaside Palm Beach on the 21st of October with our three children (5, 11, & 14). We needed two rooms and the Palm Beach was the only hotel in Gran Canaria with availability that would guarantee adjoining rooms so that was a big plus for us. Overall, we enjoyed our time at the Palm Beach and we definitely would have stayed longer if we could...

However…

Would we go back? Maybe in twenty years Would I recommend it? Only to my mum and dad Is it a 5 Star Hotel? Not in our opinion, and not based on other hotels we’ve stayed at.

The Positives

The hotel was very clean, and we felt very safe and secure in terms of how seriously they are taking Covid. Plenty of hand gel and additional masks etc available. It was a surprise to have to wear a mask outdoors in the restaurant, and easy for the kids to forget to put them back on at the buffet (which incurred a telling off), but all in all I'd rather it was like that than the other way round.

For me the food was the stand out for the Palm Beach so I was surprised to see the previous review. We were half board but had still been planning to eat out most evenings. However, in the end we only ate out twice as the food was better in the hotel than in any of the local restaurants we found. The BBQ's in particular were excellent and as someone who needs to avoid Gluten it was pleasing to see everything was clearly marked for allergens. The set menu food was also excellent. The menu's themselves didn't make the food sound too appealing but when it arrived it was always delicious. Breakfast was also excellent with more options than you’d ever need. Our younger two children enjoyed the daily kids buffet for their evening meals (not as much as the BBQ’s though) and I’ve never seen our middle child eat so much. Probably the best hotel food we’ve had when the children have been with us.

The Not So Positives

We stayed in two adjoined superior rooms overlooking (ish) the main pool. We were on the same level as the reception which was quite handy generally but not ideal when someone was whistling loudly at 5am. Personally I wouldn't class the room as superior, and my wife did double check we'd been allocate the correct rooms when we arrived. Housekeeping was excellent, no issues there, and bottled water was delivered each evening. Nothing majorly wrong with the rooms but for us calling them superior set the wrong expectations. If you have a close look on the website, as we did while we were trying to work out if we were in the correct rooms, their rooms are all pretty much the same. It looks like the view is what makes them superior or not. That said our view, being quite low down, wasn’t ‘superior’.

The main issue we had with our stay, and the one that would stop us going back anytime soon, was that it's not actually very child friendly. They have a kids club, and the lady running it deserves a medal, and an award for her face painting skills. Despite that it doesn't really feel like they want children at the Palm Beach, or at least not ones over the age of about 5. There are three pools: a smallish kids pool for smaller children, an adult only pool, and a big and very deep (but also very cold) main pool. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think there are two adult only pools, and a children’s pool. The children were allowed in the main pool as long as they were swimming and not having any fun. This is fine for any aspiring Olympic swimmers but not so good for children just wanting to enjoy their holiday and jump and play in a pool.

Generally speaking, the hotel is a bit stuffy. Some of the staff seem to think it’s the Ritz and are a little passive aggressive to say the least. Myself and my 14-year-old son were asked to get changed when we went down for our first evening meal in the (outside) restaurant. Men (and evidently 14-year-old boys) are not allowed to wear shorts in the restaurant in the evening however smart they are. Any trousers however scruffy are absolutely fine. Naturally I returned in pair of tracksuit bottoms and a scruffy t-shirt . Ridiculous, it’s 2021! My son only took one pair of trousers (also tracksuit bottoms) with him on holiday so had the pleasure of wearing them for every evening meal we ate in the restaurant.

I don’t know if it was the brand of hand gel on offer but a number of the hotel staff seemed to drop an awful lot of glasses during our stay. Ordinarily not much of a problem for guests but my son was served a 7up and glass cocktail in the pool bar which could have been a lot more serious than it thankfully was.

Despite the stuffiness and the ban on fun our children had a great time but largely as they made lots of likeminded friends of all nationalities. As well as the pools there was darts, giant chess, table tennis, Tennis and football to occupy them so plenty to do. By the end of the week they were also used to being told off for having fun so weren’t too concerned and just carried on enjoying themselves.

Ultimately, I would say if you don’t have any children, you like a nice quiet hotel that offers great food and is a stone’s throw away from the beach this is a great option for you. If you have children aged 5 years + I would recommend staying somewhere else.

Not a five star hotel

Review by AnnaB486 Stockholm, Sweden

This is hotel for mainly older people, which is fine, but we had no idea. Probably 70% of the gusts over 70 years. The bar is dead at night and very little to do...

You have to be up early to secure a sun bed. In the speakers you here “now time for Tai Chi etc.”. Nice pool boys, but no one to take orders so you have to go to the bar. Very few healthy alternatives on the menu. Set menus or buffet at dinner, very little choice overall. Food is average, except breakfast which is good. Staff in the restaurant are generally friendly, but tired. Reception staff you get the feeling that they just want to get rid of you as they have other things to do. Courteous and does their job but not more. Spa, well booked a treatment for myself and my daughter, reconfirmed it on the phone - both treatments. Then when we came they had “lost” one of our slots. They did not charge but did not really care. That’s when I decided to write a review. House keeping staff very nice, but you get no turn down. I would rate it 4 star, absolutely not 5 star for the above reasons and very expensive ($600/night is what we paid) for what you get. If we had not pre paid the room I would check out and find a proper 5 star hotel with spa that can do basic service.

Perfect family birthday celebration venue

Review by katiekitkat052 Solihull, United Kingdom

Never been to the Canaries, perfect autumn break, ambiance of the restaurants and pool make you feel your in the Caribbean not a short plane journey from the UK.

Very clean, friendly welcoming employees and food was excellent. On a half board basis we were going to swop dinner for lunch and eat out some days but didn’t bother, there are secluded areas to dine if you want to...

Pools were clean and not over crowded and sun beds readily available at anytime.
