Great location, average hotel

Review by Cheska1993Deal, United Kingdom

We stayed here for a week and can not fault this hotel for its location. It’s situation near to the beach and lots of Irish bars. Unfortunately a few of these bars were shut due to COVID but I can imagine in more normal times this would be different. When we arrived at the hotel it was gone 10pm and we were quickly checked in...

The first room we were given had a huge cockroach crawling across the bed and so we returned to the check in desk and asked to be moved. We were given a different room although I did expect some sort of apology but nevermind. A fire in the kitchen then woke us at 4/5am so it wasn’t the best first night! The food in the restaurant I suspect suffered as a result of this fire since we were served cold fried eggs so opted for the cold selection for the rest of the stay. Lunch and dinner were equally average with the same food often being served a lot of the time and the meat and fish being dried out from overcooking. It would have been nice to have some healthier choices and more variety. Additionally we had to queue for food and often the line was long. Given that the hotel was supposedly running at reduced capacity i was quite shocked by this. It made social distancing difficult as everyone queued on top of each other. The pool area was very busy but nice and the bar was good. However we had been told international branded drinks would be included in the all inclusive offer and they were not.

Last Minute Booking for family of 5

Review by Smiffdog73Bristol, United Kingdom

Booked last minute due to original holiday being cancelled & got a good deal. Really good location, just a few minutes from the beach, although you do have to walk down 197 steps to access it. Not so good if you have mobility issues but great to burn off the extra calories from the All Inclusive if you don't!

Check-in was quick & easy - the man on reception really friendly & informative. The rooms were more basic than normal as they had removed extras & soft furnishings to make cleaning easier due to the virus...

Rooms were cleaned every other day so they could be cleaned more thoroughly. Safe was 2.50 Euros a day to hire.

Couldn't fault the hotel for cleanliness & all staff extremely friendly & couldn't do enough for you.

Pool bar was self service for soft drinks & ice cream but had to queue for alcohol. The animation team did what they could during these times & were around all day. Considering some hotels have no entertainment at the minute, I think they did an amazing job! No mad rush for sun beds. A lot were reserved early but we always managed to find some. The lifeguard was really good at helping people find some & moving the bed & umbrella for them if they needed help.

The food wasn't always to my liking but could always find something to eat. There were lots of different nationalities at the hotel so they obviously had to cater for everyone. Food was served to you at the buffet bar instead of helping yourself which was fine. Things like the bread rolls were individually wrapped & salads & desserts put into individual bowls so you only had to pick up your own. Masks needed to be worn whist getting your food or drink & this was enforced, anyone who refused were told to leave the restaurant.

There was a fire in the restaurant when we were there during the night. All the alarms worked throughout the various buildings & the evacuation procedure worked brilliantly which was reassuring. Fire, police & ambulance on the scene quickly & we were all back in our rooms within a couple of hours.

The hotel only opened the week before we got there & I think, given the restrictions in place, they are doing an amazing job!!

Would Recommend!!

Excellent value for money, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.

Review by OnAir08281200795Hereford, United Kingdom

I arrived the day the restrictions on travel were lifted. I was actually welcomed at the airport by the Jet2holiday staff, as their 'first' customer since the pandemic outbreak, and again when I arrived at the Labranda Playa Bonita. I must admit I was expecting things to be different, I was expecting a more 'sterile' service, more 'standards and rules' to follow and even a more 'isolated' holiday experience. Nothing could be further from the truth. From the moment I arrived it was clear to see the staff and team members had been briefed and 're-trained' on their respective roles...

Due to their professionalism, they went about their work with little to no obvious operational difference to the customers. I would like to thank each and every member of staff at the Playa Bonita for making my stay faultless. The hotel itself is kept immaculately clean. The rooms are spacious, bright, and well maintained. The pool area is large, plenty of sun-loungers / umbrellas. The pool and chill out bars were well stocked and the serving staff were always happy and courteous to the customers. The animation team were friendly and very hard working. All in all I enjoyed my stay at the Playa Bonita, would I return (?), most definitely.

Post UK Travel Corridor Lifting Update

Review by TheAviator0765Ripon, United Kingdom

This was actually a four day working trip with a couple of colleagues; with business hotels on the island still closed, it made sense to book a package with a reputable UK holiday company - we calculated they would not place their guests into an establishment that hadn't passed some pretty stringent safety checks.

This review is mainly to advise potential customers of the hotel in these Covid-19 stricken times (we stayed in period 19 - 23 July, it may have all changed). From arrival, it was apparent pretty strict measures were in place. Masks on prior to entering reception, plenty of gel and social distancing enforced with lots of notices explaining what the hotel had put in place as precautionary measures, and how it expected its guests to comply with these precautions.

Around the grounds, masks need not be worn...

Any public rooms, they must. For entry to the dining room, mask on. Sit down, mask off. Go to get food, mask on. Even as a Brit, it soon became second nature and although different, not much of a hassle. The dining room had tables separated with three sitting times per meal. Some individuals found social distancing in a queue a bit challenging, but that seems to have been a continual challenge in the UK! Oh, and happy with the food throughout.

The room was clean, and cleaned during our stay. Again, lots of gel around the grounds and in the entrances to the accommodation blocks.

We were working, so didn't really have time to enjoy the pool or other facilities on offer. However, early starts testified that towels are down on all the sunbeds by 0630!

Finally to add the staff were unfailingly patient and polite during our stay. The nature of our visit meant we needed breakfast prior to the 0730 start time. Not a problem (though not hot food, which wasn't an issue). On occasion we had to change our pre-booked time for dinner. Again, no snags. So thank you in what must be extremely difficult times.

All the staff were fantastic always friendly and helpful, very clean and always found something to eat at meal times, loads of sun beds so no need to get up at five in the morning to get one. Rooms are a good size with air conditioning.
