November 19

Review by V6699SXlisas Leicester, United Kingdom

We stayed at this superior hotel for my fiftieth birthday, I'm a lttle late leaving the review! This is one of the nicest, most beautiful places we have ever stayed in. The hotel itself is breath takingly beautiful, in an amazing spot, very near to the airport, right on the sea. Its gardens are stunning in both the day and night...

The accommodation was immaculate, very traditional and well thought out. The food was amazing, varied and delicious. We loved eating on the veranda at night. The break fasts were also excellent, and the pit of fresh coffee was lovely every morning. The Evening Entertainment was really good, we loved it and I stayed at the hotel most nights, which we never normally do. On top of all of that we're the staff. Friendly, attentive and so professional at their jobs, they really make this hotel stand out from all the rest. We can't wait to come back, in November fingers crossed.

Good but sadly not as good as it was!

Review by JeanKBuryStEdmunds Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom

This was our return visit to Hotel Parque Tropical after having experienced a wonderful week last year at the same time. The staff were as usual very courteous apart from one or two officious people on dining room duty. Having been recognised by at least two staff members who remembered us from last year it was particularly irritating to keep being asked every evening for proof of Key card ID by the other staff. One of the ladies being rather sarcastic after I did not understand her accent...

We had already found it very annoying that we were spoken to in German every single time in most areas of the hotel every single day. We had had similar experiences last year and after a while one does tend to feel quite outnumbered and isolated. It did not help that the sun bed situation around the pool became extremely annoying. Unfortunately many of the German guests were extremely rude moving their sunbeds to perfect positions for maximum exposure to the sun resulting in being so close to ours preventing us from being able to negotiate even getting on or off our own beds . So RUDE! Several of these people were reserving their beds before breakfast and then leaving them every single day. We recognised two guests who were at the hotel last year in particular who always had exactly the same beds every single day without fail. They clearly knew all the staff and we came to the conclusion that this appeared to be accommodated by preferential treatment from some staff members. This also seemed apparent when seating certain guests in the dining room also. Obviously it is not the fault of the hotel that they are mainly hosting German guests, but some of the behaviour of these guests could have been managed better by applying the rules that the Hotel set themselves ie: the sign saying that reservation of sun loungers was strictly forbidden?? There is no point in displaying this sign.

The entertainment last year was superb but this year it fell very short. When my husband enquired as to why some of the very professional performers were not in attendance he received the reply that some of the feedback the Hotel had received suggested that guests did not want to be entertained by professionals but merely wanted to shuffle round the dance floor every night to what appeared to be local amateurish groups. We felt that maybe this was due to the fact that many of the very professional English acts did not appeal to the German guests???

Unfortunately our enjoyment was further marred by my husband's phone disappearing from our room on our second day. He did not wish to receive business calls during the day so left it on the ledge behind our bed. Obviously maybe we were too trusting as one does not expect to have to keep locking one's phone in the safe in one's room! The hotel suggested he had left it somewhere maybe the pool? We reiterated that it had not left the room. One of the assistant managers said they had spoken to the housekeeping staff ( not that anyone was going to say they had taken it !) and that they would do a sweep of the room and take the headboard off ???? really there was no way a phone could have slipped behind. We were then asked everyday if it had turned up ? From where????Suffice it to say we have returned home without the phone and had to suffer the loss.

Sadly we probably won't return which is a great pity as the Hotel itself is a very lovely hotel extremely clean and in super surroundings and the majority of the staff very helpful. What a shame!

Unas vacaciones inolvidables!!!

Review by bernieod2020 Dublin, Ireland

We spent 9 days here at Christmas, from Dec 22nd to Dec 31rst. We had room 381 which we were told was in a highly popular section of the hotel. Most of the balconies look out onto the pool/garden area and the view is both peaceful and beautiful...

The majority of guests were German and made no effort to engage with us but it wasn't an issue. What stood out for me was the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were told "Esta es su casa" ( This is your home). Caroline and Patrizio were a great animation team, Juan Falcón, Bonnie and Juan Antonio at reception were lovely and the staff in the dining room were so so nice. David the omelette guy greeted me with a smile every morning and introduced me to putting tabasco on my omelette. Amado, Moises, Yeyar all looked after us so well. The food was okay but there were frankfurter-type sausages which I didn't like, suckling pig and calf leg which didn't appeal to me. There's a good choice of well-priced wine and a different one on offer each evening. There's a hair salon and a massage room on site. Rene gives a fab massage and be sure to ask Ani for a hair botox treatment. Global runs a very efficient bus service right beside the hotel. There's always someone at the station to answer questions and there are buses that go semi-directly to places and others that stop at loads of stops. Be sure to check out Fund Grubbe nearby for bargains in cosmetics. Lancome moisteuriser was 36 euro. Its well worth going to Maspalomas as the beach is absolutely beautiful. The area around the hotel is fine for small supermarkets and trinket shops but the beach is stony and down lots of steps. The dinner on Christmas night was amazing. I really enjoyed my holiday and muchas gracias a todos los camareros para unas vacaciones maravillosas. La Senora con la mano averriado!!!!

Not Quite as Good

Review by Graham W Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom

We stayed in this hotel in April and so enjoyed it we decided to return for our November trip. I emailed the hotel in advance requesting a room with afternoon sun and pool view, which they acknowledged but naturally could not guarantee. Of course every hotel has less ideally placed rooms and the room we were allocated was in permanent shade and with a view of the kitchen and dining room roof. In addition there must have been some major repairs taking place in the room next door because there was significant noise coming from it...

We requested a room change and on the third day this was agreed. We were told that if we let them know when we went out, the move would be completed entirely by them using moving rails etc. We were slightly skeptical about this so repacked our things before we went out. Just as well because when we were returned we were given the keys to the new room and moved our belongings ourselves. The new room certainly had a better vista but still was in shade all day and unfortunately towards the end of our stay we discovered an ant infestation. However despite this all the other good things about the hotel, the quality of the rooms, the food choice, the cleanliness, the great staff (with the exception of one) all remained as before and helped us enjoy our stay. There are just two other comments I'd make. I think we were the only English people staying among the other German guests. This isn't a complaint as such BUT we did feel slightly isolated because of it. The other issue was with a particularly officious dining room receptionist. The hotel has three sittings for dinner and we chose the middle sitting. On no less than three occasions we were asked by the same lady to prove we were attending the correct sitting, and although we didn't see her question anyone else it was the very hostile manner in which she approached us was so unnecessary and in fact on another two evenings when we saw she was on duty we chose to eat out rather than be subject to the same hostility. I MUST however stress she was the exception and all the other staff were pleasant, friendly and efficient.
