Not sure why I've seen so many bad reviews! I visited for a week on August 16th and the hotel was lovely. Never had an issue claiming a sun bed, food and drinks were lovely (especially breakfast), fantastic entertainment and facilities (although a shame the downstairs bar was closed but I know this was due to covid). The hotel is in a great location and the room was always cleaned exceptionally...
The only thing I would say was that we almost missed dinner as we arrived at 9:30pm (dinner finished at 9:45) and if we hadn't made it on time I'm not sure if the hotel would have provided food? It is a great hotel for families and I would definitely recommend for anyone looking at it :)
We recently returned from a 2 week all inclusive stay at the Waikiki hotel. Overall we had a fantastic time. The earlier reviews got me worried as it said "not for English!" This is definitely not the case...
My husband, 11 year old and 9 year and i really had such a wonderful time here. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel, the pool toilets especially were always spotless and smelt beautiful, the cleaners are a credit to the hotel. Coleen was also incredible, she has so much energy and passion and i thoroughly enjoyed the daily water aerobics with her, as did my children. Marcus was also full of beans with his "bingo, bango, bongo" games. The bar staff were hit and miss, some were lovely and friendly, some looked so miserable like asking for a drink was so annoying for them. The milkshakes with cream were a hit for my children and nice to have rather than fizzy drinks all day. We all really enjoyed the food. There was always plenty of choice every night, something for every taste. The salads were fresh and tasty and the meats, especially the lamb was cooked beautifully. Isabel a waitress works very hard mon- fri, and was very efficient at clearing our plates and saying a few english words to the kids which was nice. The puddings were delicious as was the breakfast. We've stayed in alot of buffet type hotels and this was one of the best. We ate at 645-7 most nights and the food was always hot and its nice to see them cooking it in front of you.
The negatives for us was:
The room size is too small for 4 people, only 2 chairs on the balcony.
No inflatables in the pool, yet the on site shops gladly sell them to you!! No balls in the pool, so no game of family catch which was shame as the pool was huge and we've been to much smaller pools where balls are allowed. Its a family hotel so balls and inflatables should be expected.
The on site shop opens at sporadic times too. On a few occasions we went to get an ice cream around 2pm for it to be shut!
The evening entertainment wasnt that great, random Spanish man on a guitar and mostly caters for Spanish guests. We went out every evening of the 2 weeks!
The Yumbo centre is about a 10 min walk away and lots of cheap places to get a drink...2 euros for a pint and a half! Lots of shops here too.
Excursion shop out the hotel and left called Scotts excursion shop was great, lovely chap who we booked all our trips through.
Aqualand is a must!! We all the the best day here. Bus is about 1.90 for a return each and right outside hotel.
Transfer time from the airport is about 30 mins too so bonus.
Overall we would definitely return to this hotel on the future and Gran Canaria is just beautiful.
Thank you Waikiki ❤
Third visit to this hotel and still cannot fault it ,felt safe mask wearing is mandatory with kids over 6 wearing them and the stafg are hot on this and will pull you up if not wearing them.Hand sanitizers every where at all entrances and lifts.Down stairs bar closed so all entertainment outside, there were more music acts which were great including Marco Puma Good Vibes ,entertainment team were great and non stop Marcus and Colleen in particular are so energetic Couple of things could be looked at the adult jacuzzi area needs monitoring more as a few families were taking children in there treating it as a paddling pool and maybe put more over 18 signage up , also on nights where animation team are on and doesn't start until 9.30 maybe start earlier 8 or 8.30 would be better. Had a great pool sea facing room with a kettle but never used as no fridge for milk .
We booked an 11 night holiday through Polkadot and Jet2 holidays as a package deal, as we hadn't travelled since Jan 2020.
Overall, we really can't complain.
Drinks are free pour for yourself.
Food is plentiful.
The staff are helpful and joyous.
The room is clean and the beds are good as we've managed to relax and get 11hrs sleep a night 😳
The entertainment is mixed varying from a saxophonist to a magician, but we retire early to chill in the air conditioned room.
During the day, the unused sunbeds are satisfied and it's mandatory to use facemasks around the hotel, but when seated, obviously not.
The place needs a bit of a tart up, but you know for approx £60 per person per night all inclusive, you genuinely get what you pay for.
All those complaining need to get to a five star hotel if they want fiver star drinks.
Hubby is fussy with food and he's managed to eat lots of variety every day.
Mainly Spanish at the hotel presently, which us Brits aren't used to, but covid is what it is.
Pleasant stay, can recommend if you want cheap and cheerful and won't whinge about no 5* service etc 🙄
Hotel very clean, food is lovely, good style hotel, very modern. Hotel activities on every single day, Collen was absolutely amazing!!! She Was so energetic in all the activities we participated in and always made convocation with us outside of activities!! Marcus was also amazing for entertainment! But overall all staff are lovely! Would definitely come back to this hotel!! Thank you Waikiki
