Ignore the critics! This place is above some 4 star places we have stayed. We found Altamar to be very good value for money. The food is varied and delicious. The whole place is constantly being cleaned. The staff are friendly and helpful. The beds are comfy and the rooms cool. Beautiful views. Kids love it. Not too busy. Great having a reasonably priced shop in the hotel. The lift is unusual, but adds to the charm! There are lots of steps, but it’s good as I haven’t done much else! Haven’t been to town (yet?) Didn’t struggle to get a sunbed. Would come again. Recommend!
We booked a stay here last minute as a family. We were a little worried after reading mixed reviews but had a lovely stay. Nice hotel, great pools, beautiful views, spacious balcony and apartments. Adam running the entertainment was wonderful and friendly. My kids loved the unlimited slushes and ice cream machine at lunch and tea. The food for a 3 star was absolutely delicious. So much choice, beautiful and fresh. We didn't have one bad meal. Great to have pool towels for no cost. Reception were lovely and helpful. Taxis easy to catch from outside the hotel. Lift was a bit slow at times but nothing major. Wifi hit and miss, but again nothing major. They could do with a few plastic tables around the sunbeds for you to put your drinks on.
I'm here now it's our second day I noticed on first night on way back to our room as have to pass the pools that people putting towels out on beds or just leaving them at the end of the day to reserve the same beds for the next day. Which I thought was out of order something the Germans would do. But thought maybe there's always plenty of beds but I was wrong came down to find myself and my son a sun lounger walk around two pools not 1 sunbed free. Approached the lifeguard and he wasn't interested said about people putting towels down of a night to reserve them just shrugged his shoulders. Went to reception to complain to manager told him every hotel I've ever stayed in they have a rule no towels on beds before 8am or they will be removed. He replied that is there rule I replied it clearly isn't and your not enforcing it and that it's unfair to other guests who have paid the same money that they can't lay by the pool and enjoy there holiday. I thought his attitude was very unprofessional and didn't want to help. A bad start to our holiday
Had an amazing week at this hotel. The view from the pool areas across the bay is something to see. We walked down to Amadores beach twice and also did the steps down to Puerto Rico Beach . Due to the afternoon heat we got a taxi back to the hotel. It is very easy to get around and all staff are very friendly to help you whilst you are there . Food throughout our stay was amazing something different each evening. Obviously there was some sane dishes as it is an all-inclusive buffet option, but we always found good food choice to eat from breakfast through to evening meal .
Beautiful rooms with fantastic views. Balcony is huge and has its own sunbeds. Apartments are modern and very clean and functional. We were S/C and had all the amenities we needed. The daytime entertainments was great: aqua aerobics, water games, darts, Bingo. Evening entertainment was a bit ‘samey’ and was inside the restaurant so diffficult to see. Too many kids doing karaoke very loudly! (Had to shut all the windows!) The restaurant food looked good but it was confusing how to order food from the menu as only available certain times. (We were S/C) The pools were large and not too busy. We did manage to get sunbeds every day despite not going down until 10 ish. No inflatables in the pool - until the lifeguard leaves at 6! The Europa Centre was nearby and had a good supermarket (the spa on site was good but smaller) We tried to eat at the Europa Centre one evening but for us it was ‘too English’. We walked to Puerto Rico beach and Amadores which were both manageable - 20 mins. But taxi was only way back up as sooo steep! About £6 a trip but lots of taxi ranks including one outside hotel. Both resorts were lacking in ‘taverna’ type places to eat but Amadores has lots on the beach and Puerto Rico lots in the shopping Centre.
