Puerto Rico

This excellent hotel boasts breathtaking views over the harbour, the bay and out to the open sea from its elevated position in Puerto Rico on the southwestern coast of the holiday island of Gran Canaria. It features 2 outdoor pools, a sports centre, kid's club, restaurant and various bars. The Europa Shopping Centre is situated right next to the hotel; the next beach is within walking distance.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Looks nice on the outside but....

Review by BMichelle84

We have just arrived back from a 7 night stay in riosol after having holiday booked for 2 years, due to COVID like many we were unable travel until now. When I booked this hotel we booked with Jet 2, I read all the reviews and looked at all photos. On arriving the hotel looked amazing, very clean and at the top of the island the views were unreal...

When getting into our room which was a one bedroom apartment meant for 4 people I was a little unhappy with the room. 2 single beds and 2 small sofas ( not sofa beds) but considering it was only me and my husband it was workable. We just pushed the 2 singles together. The hotel does have an upgraded room you can pay extra for but when originally booking on Jet 2 this was the only room to choose from which is the hotels basic economy room. The room was quite small but grew on me over the days however there was hairs on the dressing table when we first got in there and the floor was dirty also. When getting into bed one of the scatter cushions on the bed had a big brown mark on and was still there when we left. We went all inclusive however ate out nearly every night because the food was quite poor and always cold. The only bonus was the snack bar 12 until 3 everything was cooked fresh and was amazing especially the pizzas. You can eat inside the restaurant or out near the pool but I literally couldn't get a break from the local pigeons that are there inside and out all day everyday constantly under your feet and flapping around the food or even when your sunbathing. There's Pigeon poo everywhere on the sun loungers, chairs tables etc which don't seem to get cleaned. I would not recommend to anyone who are not good on there feet, as the amount of steps to walk is ridiculous even when taking a lift and also really steep with small wall at the side of big drops. The entertainment was non existent daytime and night time. We spent all our nights in the pubs at the shopping center at the top were there are quite a few good pubs with shows and live singers. We also went to the shopping center at the bottom by the beach which was only 5 Euro in a taxi. There were lots of lovely bars down there and most of them only charge 1.50 Euro for a pint of lager. Definitely worth going down if your self catering. Puerto Rico as an island I couldn't fault at all everyone very friendly would definitely go again but maybe not all inclusive and a different hotel.

We have been going here for 23 yrs and feel part of the riosol family. Shana is a welcome addition to the friendly and welcoming staff who are always there to help. Thoroughly recommend this aparthotel...

We have stayed self catering and all inclusive and received the same high quality throughout.

nice hotel

Review by ackwon north

very good hotel, staff were very pleasant and could not do enough for you, food was very good and i enjoyed my stay here except for one thing queuing for a lounger on a morning, you have to get there about 08.15 and queue until 09.00 , by then there is about 30 people standing in a line like the grand national and when the guy shouts ok you all run like lunatics, people throwing towels over your head to land them on a lounger, i saw 3 arguments when i was there. I even joined in the race as you have no choice or you will not get a lounger. It is utter chaos and someone will get hurt it is only a matter of time. This is a shame as it spoils the hotel and due to this i will never return to this hotel again

Just come back from a 12 night stay here at the Riosol Hotel, even though I’ve been coming to Puerto Rico for the last 25 years I’ve never stayed at this hotel. The hotel is in a convenient area, a few hundred yards from the Europa Centre and around €4 in a taxi to/from the commercial centre. Before coming I read reviews and was in 2 minds whether to stay in this hotel or not...

The room was dated but was very clean, we had a cockroach once in 12 days (the only one and only bug we saw) towards the end of our stay the hairdryer blew up, this was rectified with reception. Our first day at the hotel, we couldn’t get a sun lounger (this was school holidays and a bank holiday weekend) however the rest of the trip there was plenty of sun beds and the VIP pool was even open.

This hotel is not suited for anyone who struggles with mobility, even though there’s lifts, steps are needed to access rooms - I found that the steps to my room was very dark at night which made it hard to see where going when coming in, especially when we arrived with our luggage late at night. Maybe some lights could be fitted on the stairs to make it a little easier to see?

Overall the Riosol is a nice hotel, the staff are very friendly, I probably would stay here again (not in school holidays) if I was to stay at the top. I think for me though I prefer to stay at the bottom of the resort - nothing to do with the hotel, a personal preference.
