We are regular visitors to the hotel and standards have always been very high, however following the Covid outbreak we returned and was slightly disappointed, not with the amenities, the food, or the activities but with the amount of noise/music from guests round the pool area that spoilt it for everyone trying to enjoy the sun. Also beforehand there was a dress code for evening meal which appears to have been abandoned. We are to return in November and just hope this is not repeated.
We booked a Select room on prestige AI - room very clean and well kept with all amenities as expected - view was lovely (room 470). Bathroom is a interesting concept of washbasin in the dressing area and then a separate shower cubicle, the shower was great with lots of hot water. The toilet cubicle needs a re-think - my husband and I are not large people (I'm a size 12 he has a 32 inch waist) however getting into and out of the toilet was interesting - the door opened into a very small space and there was a need to manoeuvre round the door before closing it! Good luck with it if you are any larger...
The food was fine, always hot and the oriental buffet evening was fabulous. The full English and choice of omelettes was lovely. We ate in the al la carte restaurant one night and whilst the service and main course was lovely we found the prawn starter a little bland.
The prestige area for sunbeds is just too small and also needs a rethink - my suggestion would be to move it down to the lower pool which has a lovely grassed area and a bar - the current area is far too small and too far away from the facilities. The selection of drinks on the premium package was great, I spent all week drinking very nice gin :)
All in all a good week, after all, a holiday is what you make it - not sure we would go back but then we don't ever go to the same hotel twice! My advice would be only upgrade if you don't like the local spirits otherwise stay with the ordinary AI.
Stayed here for 4 nights on a couples break for a 40th birthday celebration. We were all inclusive plus with the prestige club.
Hotel and surroundings: Gorgeous hotel in a lovely location...
Puerto Calero itself was lovely and the hotel is a minutes walk from the harbour. The harbour area has several bars and restaurants and has a great feel to it. All the grounds and communal areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean. We had spa entry and went in there during our stay. This is a great spa and was nice and quiet while there. The pools were all fantastic and we really enjoyed the larger pool near the beach area. All again very clean. We took a taxi into puerto del carmen one day and it was €8 each way.
The room: We had a superior room with sea view. The room was fantastic , really spacious, comfy beds and gorgeous balcony and views. It was cleaned everyday to a high standard and a good tv and desk space.
Food: We really enjoyed the breakfasts and the lunches at the hotel but not so much the evening meals. I think In fairness hot buffet style restaurants is not my favourite to begin with. That being said there was always a good selection of choice but I felt that the items never really complimented each other. Another issue was the food was all warm but I would not say it was hot. The vegetables and fruits all tasted tinned which was a disappointment.
The lunches were excellent though, always cooked meats with potatoes, pastas and burgers pizzas and a huge selection of salads.
Prestige: In short I would not pay for this if I was to visit again. The Mini bar was topped up everyday and the prestige club bar was excellent but for me the benefits stopped there!! The area of select sunbeds Were in enclosed squares surrounded by small walls that was out of the way of the main pools. The area to sit for prestige guests in the restaurant is really nice but came with issues. On the first morning there were no clean clean tables in that area so we chose to sit in the main section and were told off by the waiting staff for not sitting in the prestige section. There were never any clean tables on a morning in that section regardless of what time we came for breakfast and despite waiting and seeing numerous empty tables non were cleaned in time. The waiting staff in the main section seemed to working a lot faster and more efficiently than those in the prestige section.
Reading the previous reviews I find it hard to think I was in the same hotel. We had the Prestige package. We checked in no problem and was offered our cases to our room but did it ourselves reception not a problem at all.Our room was on the 5th floor and was extremely clean and kept clean daily...
Had a coffee machine which did make it a tad difficult to make a cup of tea but nothing to complain about and a mini bar that was very well stocked daily. Each restaurant we visited was clean and very well run by the attentive staff. Buffet food in an all- inclusive hotel is hard to manage I suspect, to cater for the masses, but we had a great variety and didnt go hungry. WIth our prestige package you get an area where you can eat seperately if you want and drink in the prestige bar with branded drinks, only on a coupleof occasions were there no sandwiches but kept very well stocked with drinks, and also the prestige areable to sunbathe seperately, they also were kept very clean. In the week we were there we never experienced any unruly behaviour from anyone being rowdy or drunk. As the week went on the hotel did get busier and busier and the staff were very busy and very strict about mask wearing, which did not give us aproblem at all as they were ony doing their job post Covid. We visited the spa and that was fantastic experience, and not busy at all and very easy to book into. There is a short walk to the Marina if you want to get way from the all-inclusive where there are bars and restaurants. I could not fault this hotel at all as an all-inclusive hotel goes and I have visited a few and yes I would return.
A week in Premier Plus ! On arrival looked and sounded just what we wanted a junior suit very spacious nice bottle of fizz ,fruit and a well stocked mini fridge. Great. To the restaurant for evening meal the Premier area was the same as normal apart from they served the drinks at the table. I have to say the food was the NOT the best or hot on ANY occasion . I put this down to to many people and not enough staff...
When you think the best food we found here were sugar puffs gives you an idea how bad it was. The Bars were ok but we had the named drinks package and premier lounge so drank Bud all week. The WIFI was absolutely the WORST in any hotel I had stayed in. To sum up . Not Worth going premium or premium plus, or even all included, So really find a different hotel, a shame really such a nice hotel.
