El Trebol

First of all, this hotel is exceptional for a 3 star! The hotel grounds are clean, the food is good, drinks are cold and the space is lovely. We spent a whole week enjoying the facilities, we chose not to take part in any of the entertainment stuff so we can't really comment on that but people round about us seemed to be enjoying it. The paid bar has wonderful cocktails and brilliant air-conditioning for night times. Attached is a picture of the margharita I had on the first night we used the bar, it was divine!! Value for money wise, I think it was great value for money and a great location.

We didn't have a single bad word to say about this hotel UNTIL the last day...the room above us seemed to flood their bathroom through the night (not the hotels fault) but when the dripping water through the ceiling woke my husband who then woke me, we called the reception and a maintenence man arrived after maybe 5 minutes-brilliant! That's where it all went wrong...he said he would be back in a few minutes (while the water is pouring into our bathroom) and he then never reappeared. After an hour we phoned reception back who sent what might be the most rude maid I have ever met. She opened the door, huffed, mopped the floor, threw towels down and left (I could have done that myself). The ceiling was still leaking and at this point we had packed everything up because we knew we were going home later that day but we weren't offered anywhere else to go or anything. It put a fair dampener (quite literally) on our last day at the hotel.

Overall we WOULD return because the chances of that happening again are so slim and everything else was fabulous.

This is a review based on our stay and, in some cases, my particular room, so some of the cons may not apply to other rooms.

For the previous three years we have stayed at the same hotel in Majorca, but this year we decided to try somewhere different. Unfortunately, after this holiday, we will be returning to Majorca next year!

Pros • The breeze was welcome at times, particularly when it was hot. • The food was nice and there was enough choice. Food was generally replenished fairly quickly. • The themed nights were good, particularly the Sunday roast and Asian night — definitely our two favourites. The Indian night was disappointing, though, as there were only curries and rice with no poppadoms, naan bread or chutneys. • There were enough shops and other things in the surrounding area to give us a change of scenery. • It was only around a 10-minute walk, if that, down to the beach. • The rooms had a large kettle, which was useful. • Free WiFi was available around the hotel. However, don’t rely on it! I was often connected to it but my phone would tell me I was offline, despite still showing as connected.

Cons The breeze is probably worth mentioning twice! While it was welcome at times, it was also extremely strong. We couldn’t leave a drink on the table without worrying about the wind blowing it over — which happened several times! It’s not particularly relaxing having to hold your drink ALL the time.

The self-service drinks machine wasn’t replenished quickly enough and would often run out, leaving us without certain drinks for the rest of the day.

The pool bar staff could also have been more attentive. There were several occasions when we were waiting for a spirit drink to be poured while staff were in the kitchen chatting.

We found that many members of staff seemed quite disengaged and didn’t often have a smile on their faces. Restaurant staff were also sometimes slow to clear tables, and on several occasions we were left sitting with a pile of plates on the table while we were still eating.

The air conditioning in our room was poor. Yes, we had the doors closed, and yes, I played around with the dial and tried various settings, but we couldn’t get the room to cool down properly.

Towels were not replaced daily or even every other day. I appreciate that I don’t have clean towels every day at home, but when you’re on holiday using sun creams, lotions etc., I would expect towels to be changed a little more frequently.

Our shower would not drain properly and eventually overflowed into the bathroom, flooding it. To be fair, we reported this to reception and it was dealt with.

The apartment doors could also do with updating. They really needed to be slammed to close properly, which wasn’t ideal at 6am when everyone else was sleeping and I was getting up to go for a run! The bathroom door also had to be slammed to close properly.

One issue that particularly bothered us was maintenance entering our apartment without us being informed. My husband had returned to the room to get something and found ladders outside our apartment and another set inside, with maintenance workers apparently up on the roof carrying out work. When they left, there was debris left inside the apartment which we ended up walking through and spreading around. There wasn’t even a brush available for me to clean it up.

I appreciate that maintenance work sometimes needs to be carried out, but I felt we should have been informed before anyone entered our apartment. When you’re staying somewhere on holiday, that apartment is effectively your home for the duration of your stay, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to be told if someone needs to enter it.

Overall

This is purely my personal view based on our experience.

Would I stay at this hotel again? No.

Would I recommend it? No.

In fact, I’m not sure I’d choose Lanzarote again. I hadn’t realised beforehand that it was known for being such a breezy island, and unfortunately the wind did have an impact on our enjoyment of the holiday. I appreciate that the weather is completely outside the hotel’s control, but it still affected our experience.

Overall, we did enjoy our holiday, but we didn’t particularly enjoy the hotel. Compared with other places we’ve stayed, we didn’t find it as clean as we would have liked, and at times it felt as though there wasn’t much pride taken in the cleanliness and general tidiness of the hotel.

We gave it a try, but for us, we’ll be returning to Majorca next year.

Hotel was great value for money and perfect for families with children 5- 12 years old . In terms of the room, really spacious and had good facilities eg kitchenette with cutlery, kettle, plates cups etc. We were on the third floor over looking the splash pool and it was very quiet and relaxing, especially in late evenings . The only thing to be aware is that hotel doesn’t have a lift but I think if you need ground floor because you have pram they usually allocated you a room there. In terms of pools two ‘adult’ pools, one of them is great as it has accessible slope entrance , one kids pool and one splash pool which better then most you seen- kids can swim round on inflatables, as well as enjoy the slides- it’s about 0.45 deep- even great for babies . In terms of sunbeds, first week quite chilled easily get a bed any day any time, second week you did get some people putting towels at 5 am, and two old biddies seemed intent on sitting round the children’s pool by leaving their towels out from the day before. But there is always selfish people anywhere you go. However you could find a bed even then. Food was buffet style and good variety especially cooked meats such as chicken , ribs and porks, with lots of choice for kids. Most nights had a theme with Mexican and gala being our favourite. There was a pool bar as well, which served all drinks, many different spirits and slushies and also food and ice cream. Lastly animation team was amazing and did lots for kids and adults such as mini golf , darts and water mat. Evening drinking area was good and didn’t feel too busy .

In terms of the location really short walk to beach , the square in town is amazing and near hotel, there is an Italian at the end of the street called Mi Plaice, which was very good value and our children and us both loved it, gorgeous food- you’ll need to book. We got meal for 4 plus wine and drinks and like 90 euros. If you are planning on doing trips go found Luca who is in the shopping centre on way to beach- straight across the road from mi plaice, on the left as you go inside the shopping centre, we found this better value the tui . We went on the submarine tour- it was wonderful- I’d defo recommend for slightly older kids, 5 was just old enough to really enjoy it. The volcano trip was outstanding, just wish we had more time in each place as we done a half day tour and there was three stops and wish we spent more time where the hot spot is, and had a good look at the souvenir shop, and also at the vineyards and winery.

The only downsides

1. Making it non smoking around kids pool area this sometimes happen which was annoying- it does have a sign but quite a few ignored… it would be nice for staff to enforce it.

2 pool bar staff could be a bit quicker , apart from beer , wine and soft drink which on pull tap . If wanted anything else you have to wait from them to serve you and at times it could take up to 5 mins to spot your day waiting. Possibly needs to be another staff member on the bar constantly, to ease the pressure on making sure the food part and pot wash is still running well.

3. The pools can feel cold, because Teguise is so windy, the pools don’t heat up by the sun in the same manner as other places.
