Grand Teguise Playa so good to be back

Review by markcc75 Nottingham, United Kingdom

We had a fantastic time staying here for 2 weeks. The staff are so friendly and helpful. It’s so good to see that most of them have returned...

The restaurant are only to pleased to help with any dietary needs - all you have to do is ask and they will produce a meal for you. The improvements around the hotel are good to see as are the COVID controls. Some rooms are being completed however there is no noise to interrupt the peace. See you all soon.

Negatives Outweigh the Positives

Review by Rob H Nuneaton, United Kingdom

My partner and I booked for two weeks half board in the Hotel Grand. I picked the hotel because the location looked good and the reviews from last year were encouraging. We arrived just after noon and were able to check in but couldn't get access to the room until after 2.30pm. No problem - the check in time is declared as 3pm...

There was a Covid temperature checker which you had to go through to get into the hotel which was re-assuring. They have a large luggage room so we stashed our luggage and went out for a walk around to kill the time. Everything was ready when we got back so we ventured to our room. We'd upgraded to what is described as a superior room only because it is higher up and provides a better view. Whether there is much advantage is difficult to say. The room was a typical hotel layout - bathroom, bed plus one chair and small table and two chairs, one lounger and a table on fair sized balcony. Everything was clean and tidy. The room had a fridge as well. There is a safe which is chargeable but very secure. The seats on the balcony were very narrow - especially for me - so we request an additional lounger for the balcony on the basis that there were probably a lot of unoccupied rooms from which one could be borrowed. This was sorted out and it was nice to be able to sit on the balcony and catch some of the late sunshine. The bathroom had a good walk in shower and there were plenty of soaps and creams etc. The rooms were cleaned everyday between 10am and 3.45pm. If you leave a "do not disturb" on the door you will be left alone until the sign is changed. The room was always cleaned well. The TV was mounted on the wall however it did have a few UK channels such as BBC1 and 2 and Channel 4. ITV 1 was intermittent. There are ample plugs sockets for any chargers or appliances. The pool area was large however I did consider if the hotel had been full it may have been a lot more congested. There are two main pools - one I have to say is heated to about 35 degrees because it is one of the hottest pools I have ever found on holiday. Now onto a gripe - the sun loungers were awful. They are the canvas type that you can adjust the back by notches. The problem being the moment you sat on it the back part flies up detaching itself from the slot you had put it to. I wondered whether this was a problem only I was having however my partner suffered similarly and many other residents were seen to struggle. On one occasion I sat on, what was clearly, a broken lounger which resulted in my ending up on the floor - not amused. The same could be said of the parasols which were difficult to put up and in some cases they were loose with their base which was in itself dangerous bearing in mind the wind strength on occasion. The loungers and parasols should be checked on a regular basis and repaired where necessary. Our next disappointment was the restaurant and the food. I normally defend hotels with buffets selections because there is always choice however we were both disappointed in both the breakfast offering and lunch time offering - we never ate in the hotel in the evening. The disappointment was further complicated by a confusing one way system that didn't make sense. This was due to the threat of Covid of course so will hopefully not be necessary soon however, in my opinion it could be made simpler. Being on half board mean that all food was included but no drink (other than tea and coffee at breakfast). Considering the size of the pool there was only one smallish bar where drinks were being served and occasionally the queue was quite long. A small Dorado beer was charged to the room at 2.50 euros. The Spar supermarket over the road was selling 12 San Miguel tins for 6.70 euros. A San Miguel tin filled more of the plastic glass than the bar served beer.
We did sit and have a drink in the main bar one evening before going out. It has a rather novel revolving platform which seems to take about an hour to go all the way round. You hardly notice the movement but when you do it does make you think you have had one too many! One of the hotels major benefits is its location - within a short walk you can be in bars and restaurants covering all sorts of themes and cuisines and we were never disappointed wherever we went. Our personal favourite was The Abbey Road Bar. To recap and justify my score the quality and comfort of the room didn't offset our disappointment with the meals that we had and the comfort of the pool area. We did enjoy our stay but we've had better holidays but perhaps we've been spoilt with where we have gone in the past.

Good 4 star hotel.

Review by 503avad

We have just got back from 10 days in this hotel, firstly this hotel is in a great location and the hotel itself is amazing, lobby, swimming pool and rooms are all beautiful and we had the maid come everyday with fresh towels and a tidy round. We had a pool and sea view which was out of this world the view of the sea when you wake up every morning just makes it that little bit more special, only thing I would say let this hotel down was the food it wasn’t bad but very basic, we ate out most nights and went out for breakfast in the morning. Mask need to be worn around the hotel apart from by the pool and they take your temperature when you come in...

Big shout out to the staff especially a lovely blonde women who I think was called Maria who made the effort to speak to people round the pool all the time. All around good hotel would definitely come back x

Lovely and quiet

Review by Witchjo York

Having just arrived home from 11 fabulous hot, sunny days from Grand Teguise Playa, I am feeling so stressed from the forms and tests, although I thoroughly enjoyed my so much looked forward to holiday, if I’d have known how stressful and time consuming the covid stuff was I wouldn’t have gone. But that’s not the hotels fault. We arrived 11am ish and our room was ready! Masks are compulsory everywhere in Lanzarote, even outside and walking around the pool, everyone wears them, which is probably why covid numbers are so low...

Hand gel all over in the hotel via foot pumps which is a great idea. The dining room is quite a confusing layout, if you want some salad with your main course it involves walking around a maze, but it is all done with the best intentions. Only suggestion is more hot vegetarian choices please. The hotel I think was at 60% capacity, absolutely perfect as no towels reserving sunbeds at any time of the day, there were about only half of them being used. The bar was very quiet, easily able to find a table any night. I know it was all great because it wasn’t full, and hopefully it is financially viable for the hotel, but it would be great if it was always like this. Anyway, we’ve already booked for next year
