Matagorda

The family-friendly hotel Sol Lanzarote is perfectly situated in a peaceful location in Matagorda, frontline to the sandy beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Guests will appreciate a wonderful pool landscape; part of the hotel is designed in a Flintstones style, with themed rooms and a themed restaurant as well as a Flintstones Bazaar. A shopping centre is only 200 metres away; the popular holiday resort of Puerto del Carmen is easily reachable by public transportation. An ideal hotel for families with children who wish to spend a beach holiday. We would like to inform you that the time has come to proceed with the repair of our three pools to offer a modern and functional product. For all this we wanted to inform you that we have decided, for the best achievement of this repair and above all to avoid inconvenience to our customers and partners, proceed to the temporary closure of this pool from the day 12/11/2020 with an estimated duration of 1 month. We are delighted to inform that the hotel will have another 2 swimming pools available and all the services will run as normal within the new reality adapted to the Covid-19 under the program Stay Safe with Melia.

Can’t fault this hotel, excellent..!!

Review by simonl454 Bideford, United Kingdom

Stayed here over Easter with a group of 12, and my 1st time in Lanzarote. I can’t really fault the hotel, it’s was clean, lots of things going on all day, good location, rooms were a good size, excellent staff, the food was typical all inclusive but certainly edible with a good choice. Evening entertainment was also pretty good...

Lanzarote, for me was not ideal for the kids, outside of the hotel there was not a lot for them to do. Especially at night. I felt the area, especially in PDC was just Irish bar after Irish bar. The area is perfect for couples but not for kids. There are far better places to go that is more geared up for the kids. Happy kids = happy parents..! To sum up, the hotel was excellent but the area was lacking in my opinion.

No wow as you arrive at the front of the hotel but fab at the back

Review by family044 Leeds, United Kingdom

Second time visiting sol Lanzarote a few changes in the drinks and food area outside but more or less the same as our last visit a couple of years ago.

Check in good and all information given. Room a bit hard to find even with map (had sea view) but managed in the end.

Rooms of a good size clean and fridge, kettle, microwave etc...

Bed comfortable and lovely sea and pool view. Bathroom large and shower area good.

Pools large and well maintained. Snack bar usual stuff for all inclusive. But presented well and regularly replenished.

Restaurant large and a good selection of food for all meals and several lovely seating areas outside. Tables cleaned quickly and staff very helpful and with a smile on their faces.

Bar area - some self service so little queuing for soft drinks/beers etc. Bar on a evening could be improved as the only place is in the music/kids area and they could do with an adults only bar maybe where the snack bar has been moved to. When into local bars and restaurants on an evening as not keen on evening entertainment and cocktails etc not the best, Hopefully, adults only may happen later in the year as we were there at Easter half term.

Overall a good hotel on the beach, friendly staff, pools very good, rooms of a high standard, excellent location for walking around and a short bus/taxi to Puerto del carman. Would I return yes

1st time in Lanzarote

Review by sheilaandpaul St. Neots, United Kingdom

Just returned from an enjoyable fortnight at Sol Lanzarote. First impression was that hotel was a little dated but after settling in to a nice well appointed room we were quite happy. After a couple of days, what you couldn't miss was the amount of cleaning going on,the place was spotless...

The wife being a fussy eater had no problems finding something to eat in the restaurant and actually said it was the best choice of food she'd experienced in an all exclusive hotel. Although lots of guests were up early putting towels on sunbeds (I eventually joined them) there were plenty of sunbeds and anytime of day you could find one. If your a fitness fanatic or have a young family this could be the hotel for you (we're an elderly couple ) the keep fit exercises in and around the pool were very lively and the animation team seemed to be doing a great job with the kids club. The entertainment in the evening was kind of enjoyable for us but would have preferred more music/groups. What would have been nice if there had been an adults only bar in the evening (apparently a guest we spoke to said 'there used to be one') to sum up we had a very enjoyable 2 weeks but would probably not return because of the high winds which we had been warned of before travelling.
One last mention must be to compliment Rene who does a fantastic job running the restaurant and was also so friendly.

Great location

Came back yesterday from a week stay and overall we enjoyed our stay. The location was spot on, having never been to lanzarote before, we were so impressed. Hotel is right on the beach, there is a back gate and you just cross over a path and the beach is there...

Turn left from the back gate and there is a small shopping centre with a variety of shops/bars and restaurants. Again if you turn right, there are shops and restaurants along the beach. Carry on this way and you will be at Puerto del carmen which we loved. We hired bikes 3 times in the week and cycled there which took about 10/15 minutes. Also only a 10 minute transfer from airport.

The pool and grounds are well kept, staff are always sweeping up and collecting cups from around the loungers. Loungers are usually reserved with towels in the morning, but can still find the odd 2 or 3 free within the day.

Room was nice, good sized bathroom and maid cleaned it and changed towels every day.
Cocktails and spirits were only served from one bar during the day, however it’s quite far away from the pool so feels like quite an inconvenient place when lounging round the pool.

I personally always enjoyed the breakfast- omelettes, fry up, pancakes, churros, pastries, fruit, yogurts, bread, cold meats and cheeses. However we felt like at lunch and dinner the food was very random and nothing ever went together as a meal. There was a lot of fish but the meat was always mainly pork or turkey which felt repetitive. I managed to always eat a meal but was just random bits on the plate, and not an actual ‘put together’ meal. However other members of my family barely ate some meals because there was nothing they liked. Therefore we used the snack bar almost every day, which consisted of pizzas, hot dogs, burgers, toasties, salad, fruit, crisps etc. There is only one bar in the evening and sometimes there’s a queue as only one or two people serving drinks.

Kids entertainment went on until 9:30pm therefore we never watched it and went to local bars instead so cannot comment on what it was like.

Overall we did enjoy our stay however wouldn’t return due the food, however we will return to the area.

Amazing short break

This hotel is beautiful on the beach and close to bars a few shops and restaurants. This was my 3rd visit to matagorda as i like this area its so peaceful. If want hustle and bustle get taxi to PDC for few euros...

Food was excellent and usually I'm fussy! Only moan for me would be it didn't have air con on in my room and had to ask for bathroom window to be opened as had no handle and didn't slide like others, that's the only negative and I did ask at reception several times where i was promised it would come on each night at 10pm but it did not :(. I would probably not be able to use this hotel again because of this as I NEVER stay anywhere without it, even in December I use as I have asthma and don't like being hot in the night - if that does not bother you then 100% recommend this hotel. Staff are so friendly and it's in a great location. Loved sitting at the outdoor bar all day with self service drinks and snacks whilst watching people go by.
