As a two star hotel, the facilities were basic and dated, which is to be expected really.
The highlights were:
The lowlights were:
-the toilets in pool areas are not cleaned during the day so end up soaking and filthy
This was a very disappointing holiday and unfortunately not what we expected.
The food was a major issue. It was often cold, and there was very little variety, with what felt like the same food being served repeatedly. The children’s food selection was particularly poor, and on several occasions the kids went to bed hungry because there was very little they would eat.
The room was also disappointing. The sofa bed does not properly pull out, so I had to sleep on the sofa itself, which was extremely hard and uncomfortable.
The pool bar was dirty, and the ice cream machine did not work. We also found the entertainment to be some of the worst we have experienced on a holiday. Having to book for games was frustrating, and there did not seem to be enough activities available.
We also paid to hire a pushchair, but unfortunately it was dirty and did not push properly. We asked to change it, but although another one was provided, it was in even worse condition.
To make matters worse, my little boy developed what we believe was conjunctivitis while staying at the hotel. Given the cleanliness issues we experienced, particularly around the pool bar and other areas, we are very concerned that he may have picked up an infection during our stay. We cannot say for certain that it came from the hotel, but it added even more stress and upset to what was already a very disappointing family holiday.
Overall, there were far too many problems for us to enjoy our holiday. We paid a lot of money expecting a comfortable, clean and enjoyable family break, but unfortunately we left feeling extremely disappointed. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel.
We have had a great time at flamingo beach. For the money and summer holiday expenses we were happy with what we got. It’s our first 6 week summer holidays so used to cheaper but it did us well. We stayed in one of the beach apartments, beautiful! It made the holiday just sitting their people watching absolute heaven! Rooms were clean and perfectly adequate. Nice touch with bottle of wine of arrival. Yes they need a touch of paint but 5 months into the year who doesn’t? Meals were food. Breakfast busy but could always get a table and food constantly replenished. Lunch and dinner nice and relaxed! We ate at the taverna which was the nicest TUI blue taverna we have had but wouldn’t pay if not included! Spa was wonderful when son at kids club and he could not get enough of kids club! The staff do not stop and are so pleasant and friendly. We paid the 15 euros for pirate night and he was the only one there… but he loved it and got a prize and certificate. Flamingo beach area is great with a lovely mix of restaurants and flamingos bar nice with a wonderful view Playa Dorada beach is so amazing! Be warned don’t walk the market took me forever! Get the 30 bus outside We went to rancho Texas which was amazing but we had to wait for a second bus which was 45 mins after pick up time! So be prepared! My only gripe but it can’t be changed is the pools. There are about 5 sunloungers around the splash pool so you have to sit at the bar tables to watch your child and at the age of 5 you need to watch them. It should be where Mickey Mouse pool is. I loved watching the sunlounger queues. This, as far as I could see was main pool only. Not where we wanted but they are reserved from half 8! We went to Olympic pool which always has sun lounges and nice for my 5 year old. One day someone next to use reserved 2 longers using kids hats and come 5pm they still hadn’t returned from 10 that morning! Would we return? 100% to lanzarote but not here just as we like to explore but if someone wanted to come specifically to this resort we would come again! Lovely family trip and thanks to Laura at the pool bar for always remembering my Malibu order
We stayed at Tui Blue Flamingo Beach as a family of 5 (3 Adults, 2 kids) for 2 weeks at the end of July into August.
In the past we’ve done Holiday Villages and different hotels in Turkey that go all out entertainment wise so we were excited to try our first Tui Blue hotel.
Firstly, loved the location of the hotel and being right at the beach with supermarkets on our doorstep. We had never been to Lanzarote before and we loved Playa Blanca, thought the area was beautiful.
We had 2x 1bed standard apartments and I emailed the hotel prior to coming asking to have rooms together, which they did accommodate us. On arrival at 1pm only one room was ready and they also tried to give us another room that had no working air conditioning and just had fans. My partner went back to reception right away and asked to be moved as this was unacceptable. Reception claimed they didn’t know it wasn’t working (bit suspicious considering fans had already been provided) they said they’d need to split our rooms up if we wanted to move which we didn’t want either. After about an hour they found us another room, which was just 2 up from the other one. Unfortunately it wasn’t ready until 8pm that night so we couldn’t get unpacked until then which was a frustrating start to the holiday.
Thought the rooms were good size however were very tired, ceilings peeling, soap dispenser falling off wall with rusty nails and bits of the wardrobes hanging off. The last 2 days we started to get a terrible sewage smell in the living area also. The bedrooms of these apartments also seemed to back on to the area deliveries arrive and workers come and go, the noise at midnight/1am was ridiculous sometimes, like they were dragging pallets or something, there were a few nights I struggled to get to sleep. However on a positive note the rooms were well positioned for the main pool and the snack bar. Found the cleaners to be really good and were friendly.
Food itself was ok, I’d say typical AI although some nights I was really impressed. My kids loved the sushi and ribs in particular. I did love the carvery section. There was always nice meat and did really enjoy a steak one night We tried the Taverna one night and all loved the Tapas starters but were disappointed with the rest of the courses as it was really just the same food from the AI restaurant plated up differently to look fancy so we never went back for our second available slot.
Something I was really disappointed with was the cleanliness of plates, cups and glasses. So many times I picked up plates that hadn’t been washed properly and had food stuck to the bottom. So many cups and glasses looked really dirty. We often had to pick up a few cups to try and find properly clean ones.
Pool areas were ok, however our first week the main pool was really murky and gritty on the bottom, it felt really dirty and my kids weren’t keen that they couldn’t see the bottom of the pool. So many people dropped glasses or goggles and couldnt find them for ages! By the second week it did see to be cleaner though. A few of the beds are over drains and these seemed to back up as the day went on. We were over one that started having milky water coming out it which was pretty disgusting. This pool also got really busy with it being peak season and often found there wasn’t much room in it especially when they block the middle of the pool out for activities and push everyone else to either side.
We did like how they didn’t allow people to reserve sunbeds the night before and the pool area was roped off however timings of opening were very inconsistent. The pool areas should be cleaned a lot earlier or even the night before and they could open the beds earlier. I personally like to get up early on holiday and sit by the pool and read my book before the family get up, so not being able to get a bed before 8.30am was annoying.
Also really disappointed in most of the entertainment, the majority of the entertainment staff were so lovely and trying their best but there was just something missing. The girls doing the fitness activities were good and we enjoyed aqua aerobics, Lauren was also a brilliant singer. We found a Saturday was good around the pool as all the entertainment staff were together and got the vibe up around the pool, but other days it would sometimes be only one staff member suddenly running over and doing the dance routines at the side of the pool, it just felt very flat and awkward and not at all what we are used to. Entertainment at night was not that great at all, I thought there may have been big musical shows or full on tribute acts but there was nothing really like that, only a couple of entertainment staff looked like they were actually trained in any sort of performance technique. Some of the quizzes were fun and we liked music bingo but was disappointing that the kids were all pretty bored most nights as normally we all love entertainment at AI hotels.
Also hated the bar area that the entertainment was held, it was always really warm and always had a terrible smell around the bar area and as you walked in. My little one would actually hold her nose everytime we walked in the room. Disappointing that was the only place to go, except on a Tuesday when White Parties happened at the pool bar. We all loved these nights as everyone genuinely seemed like they were having fun. I really think they need to look at having more entertainment spaces.
We had a lovely family holiday together and would come back to Playa Blanca but wouldn’t return to this hotel. I think it’s got a lot of work to do to bring itself up to the 4stars TUI says it is (aware the official rating is 2stars). We paid a LOT of money for this holiday and don’t feel we got what we paid for.
Great location by the beach and some shops. Great amenities - loads of pools, including paddling pools and a kids splash pool. 2 eateries (one cafe just for lunch which has a sea view and another for all meals), as well as a meal in a restaurant one evening if you go all inclusive. Good choice of food, even vegan and gluten free options! We are vegetarian and ate well. The food labelling could be better - I wouldn't be confident if I had an allergy. Rooms had bedroom, kitchen /living room which can convert into a v comfy bedroom, bathroom and own balcony. To be fair to other reviewers, tiles were falling off the pools and paint was peeling - but this didn't affect our enjoyment. Kids club was great. Kids disco fun. Walking mascot was loved by the children. Adults enjoyed range of exercise classes. Overall, great place!
