I write this review as an honest review, we stayed here in October 2021. We first arrived and was told to leave our bags in a room by reception and explore the hotel/area as we couldn’t get our key until 3pm. So off we went for a slow walk round, on our travels another hotel resident informed us for 10€ deposit you can get a fob for the back gate (this saves walking miles round the hotel to get to the beach) By 230pm our room was ready, although we paid for a premium room and was given a standard room, but I didn’t complain as the room was spacious, clean and there was a small jacuzzi like pool ideal for the younger kids bang outside out room...
The weather was equally amazing so we dumped our bags and headed for the pool. We explored the area as at first we was self catering, we went to the market day at marina and found the food places there quite dear compared to other Canary Islands I visited, which got us contemplating to upgrade to all inclusive as we spent 172€ on food and drinks that day. The day after we explored playa dorada, and again found there was only a burger-king and expensive restraunt. So we got a kebab from the kebab place, we found this to be vile. This day we spent 130€ on food and drinks so we opted to UPGRADE to all inclusive 105€ a day (30€ per adult 13+ 15€ per child 3+ under 3s free) The next morning we headed to the buffet of the hotel for breakfast and I will be absaloutly honest here, the breakfast was not very nice (hot food) and I thought oh dear what have I done. So we headed out to get tea that night and went to a takeaway place called spice fusion and it was amazing food, 5€ for curry chips and rice for the kids fed us all for 25€! I instantly regretted upgrading to all inclusive. The day after we had all our meals in the hotel. The pool snack bar is by far the best food they offered that day, although be careful ice creams aren’t actually free only these little pots of ice cream that are more like frozen yogurt. I didn’t rate the buffet food at all. We did find the pizzaria restraunt, which only opened 2 times during our stay and has to be booked at reception, to be really nice food. After venturing to playa blanca beach we found all the cheap food places… and I’m talking 7€ for a 3course meal kind of cheap! All you can eat buffets 9€ kids half price. So I really would recommend any one staying at the hotel to go self catering. The food at this hotel is really hit and miss. And for the price you pay per person unless your a huge drinker or want to live off burger and pizzas for a week from the pool bar I wouldn’t reccomend all inclusive. But away from the food now…. The hotel…. It is laid out like little cul-de-sacks with a pool on each one. The hotel is lovely and so are the grounds. Cleaners every day (except sundays) bedding changed once a week, towels changed every day. All though they did change our bedding 2 times during our stay as kids had spilt pop on the bedding one night. The pools were lovely and the main pools were in the middle with 2 splash pools. 5minute walk to the beach if using the back gate (which is just behind the splash pool near where the slides are) I would return to this hotel, but I would 100% go self catering next time. There is a shop and laundrette on site and the shop is reasonably priced not like most hotels you go to with shops onsite. Plenty for children and adults of all ages to do, so there’s no chance of been bored and the animations team are fantastic! I only rated this 4stars because of the food! That’s the only thing I found to let my holiday down. Thank you THB tropical for an amazing holiday.
With our return flight leaving late at night, I wanted a late check out room. I emailed the hotel weeks before to request this and was told to ask on arrival. On checking in, I again requested this and staff said they were not offering late check out for the week we were staying (!) and to return the day before to double check...
As the enormous hotel with ample empty rooms was not full there was no need for this. I asked to speak to the manager as travelling with 4 children and not getting picked up from hotel until 7pm it was not an option to not get a late check out room. Long story short, we eventually got one which allowed us to utilise the hotel facilities to their fullest on our last day. The time spent arguing with reception could have been avoided as there were plenty of rooms.
The hotel advertises that they have 2 a la carte restaurants that you can visit once per stay. However, the pizzeria is only open for 2 days of the week. And for a booking of 8 people the first reservation was the week after we left. Helpful. We managed a reservation in the tapas restaurant but there was only one time on one day that they could take us as they said it was booked out the rest of the time. When we arrived at 7pm for our table we noticed that that in the entire restaurant there were only ever 4/5 tables in at any time with the rest of the tables empty. The kids had their plates lifted halfway through eating so they could get desserts out and when I asked for a second glass of wine at 8.15 (having given myself indigestion to keep up with the speed at which the food was coming at us) I got told to go to the sports bar below as they needed the table back! There were at least 10 other tables available! Now, before people start thinking about covid etc, the capacity in buffet restaurants was much higher and social distancing not a thing. There appeared to be 2 waiters and then cooking staff so I don't understand why we were rushed out as we were. It just seemed that they were not interested in running the service and it was a hassle to accommodate guests.
Another thing is that there is only one bar open for families throughout the day. Queues get absolutely huge around lunch time, taking time away from enjoying the pool. Drinking cocktails and beer out of plastic cups gets a bit old quickly. There is the premium bar at the adults only pool but not convenient when travelling with families. Additional bar somewhere else would be a game changer. At night, in the disco area, one bar again meant huge queues. The shows that were on at night were not well advertised so after the first disaster of a night we never went back.
Rooms were immaculately cleaned if a bit basic. Showers were wonderfully hot and powerful. Cleaning staff very welcoming and friendly and members of staff in the immaculate grounds always had a smile and said hola to you when walking past.
Overall, great facilities but some of the interactions with a few members of staff put a dampner on this long awaited holiday for us and unfortunately means we will not be back to this hotel nor any other THB hotel if this is the ethos.
We just came back from this hotel and I really dont understand why this place has bad reviews. There is 16 pools within the resort, so you can stay round your closest pool or go to main pool where bar and food is. Everything is clean and well kept, lovely walking grounds...
Splash parks and slides for bigger babies are awesome, our little one is too little but still was amused by all. Rooms are specious and have everything which you need. Reception super helpful, always happy to help. Food like every all inclusive which we have been. Loads of choice and its really hard to find nothing to eat. All cooked fresh. Our favourite was Chinese themes night with lemon chicken, satay skewers, prawn crackers and noodles! If you not fuss about going for lunch in you can grab fast food from pool bar. Entertaiment every evening was good for kids and adults. Watching all the little people dancing is always adorable! There is a good 15-20 minutes walk to the beach and marina, but to be honest it didnt bother us, but you can catch a free bus or take taxi at 4 euros cost. If you dont want to move out of resort you pretty much have all in, spa, hair dresser, shop, sport equipment rental, small arcade and sports bar. There is also posh adult only bar and pool, but not for us anymore with 10 month old baby! However looked nice and quiet. Overall this is a very good value hotel and I defo would recommend for families and group of friends.
Brilliant Hotel. When we first arrived it appeared a bit basic, however do not let that put you off. Check in easy but finding the room initially was a problem...
The Hotel is set out like streets which is wonderful and once you get to know the way around it is fab. There are lots of small pools dotted about, plus a large communal pool - on picture - and adults only pool. Vast grounds, beautifully clean and well maintained. Apartment basic but clean, bed very comfy and pillows were so soft. Good air conditioning, shower powerful and hot. Small kitchen like area. Cleaner in each day bar Sunday. We went bed and breakfast as wanted to eat out in the town, food not the best, we only ate breakfast once at the Hotel then stayed in the apartment for breakfast the rest of the holiday . No noise from other apartments, well sound proofed. Only 2 floors of apartments in each section which is good. We were on the ground floor about 15 steps from the pool which is where we spent every day. Ample sunbeds, not many parasols but to be honest at the time of year we went they were not needed. Pool well maintained, when a child was sick in the pool it was quickly closed and cleaned. Lovely to see families with children walking to the pool with inflatable crocodiles, lobsters, unicorns and dolphins, plenty of space for both children and inflatables. Lovely to watch. Weather fab, sunny or sunny and cloudy each day, mornings seem to be more cloudy than the afternoon. Only a 15 min walk to Playa Blanca, lots of amazing bars and restaurants and shops there, fresh fish in abundance and is amazing. You can ask for a back door pass to the Hotel to make the walk onto town easier. Roads easy accessible and safe, plenty of cross ways. Pleasant walk to town, lots of parks and gardens and again kept clean. Lots of families out with children. We never went to the entertainment so cannot comment on this but it did sound OK when we were walking back from town. Only down side was we seemed to have workmen outside the rear of our room all day, they sat by the window chatting at lunchtime and smoking so we had to keep windows closed, It was quite awkward too as they sat by the bathroom window which we had to keep closed for privacy while in there. They were still there after six when we wanted to shower. Did not want to complain but I did hope that once they realised guests were in the room they would eat elsewhere but this was not the case. Also not many cutlery pieces, no sharp knives just a bread knife, we tended to have sandwiches on our front patio at lunch time and cutting sandwich items was sometime difficult. Only one supermarket on site but did run out of milk most days after 10 minutes of opening so best to get milk in the town. However do not let these niggles put you off, we would return, had a fabulous holiday, everyone so kind and friendly, and patient as I must have pestered the desk about 6 times in 15 minutes when I first arrived!!
Just back from a week in the sun at THB Tropical Island, on the whole hotel great for the price. Our two kids loved the pool slides and splash parks and plenty of sunbeds around it. We were all inclusive and for a week can't fault it - plenty of choice at each meal time...
First day or so long queues at pool snack bar with one person serving but they then had 2 folk on at lunchtimes so wasn't too bad. My daughter enjoyed kids disco most nights but the entertainment after left a lot to be desired. Bar in the dome needs 2 staff on very unfair to have one barman all night and queues to get served but other than that a great stay. Nice to have small pool at room as well. Ask for a back door fob key to get to Playa Blanca resort only a 10/15 minute walk and we loved the resort and beach. Highly recommend going to Marina Rubicon for a special meal out - lots of lovely restaurants around the marina. For a week away in school October week in the sun we would definitely go back again.
