Great winter sun stay

Review by Daydream61819783532 Aachen, Germany

This is a spacious hotel with attentive staff and with high cleanliness.

We are a couple in our early 50s and stayed early Jan22 with the majority of other visitors in a similar age bracket or a bit older.

The pools and pool area are superb...

One of the two main ground floor pools is heated. The sun beds are padded and comfy. Plenty of beds available. We did not try the roof sun lounging area but it looked great.

We had a standard room which was large and quiet with comfy beds. The only downside was that the room cleaning regime does not include replenished tea, coffee or water or even removing dirty cups. That all falls under room service (payment applies). Never been anywhere else that does this and it’s annoying to be hawking bottles of water (free if on All Inc) from bar areas. Overall the rooms are a bit dated with lots of pine, but just see past that and enjoy the comfort. Several English TV channels available also.

The entertainment was generally good but some of the acts were very loud filling the enormous ground floor reception bar with sound. As other acts managed to entertain us without deafening us, this must be a choice and one that requires consideration. By the way there is quite a lot of outside seating where you can escape the noise while still being able to partly see the acts. Table service very good mostly.

Food is good to very good. There were a few occasions were the hot plate chef undercooked meat or fish so I’d recommend a bit of patience and ask for more cooking time (some hotels use meat thermometers but not here). Big varied range of food.

Note due to covid you have to book gym via smart phone app, but not overly busy.

Booked again for next year!

Don't hesitate

Stayed Hogmanay for a week, honestly amazing. Reception staff lovely, room spacious if a little dated. We had a mountain view which at night was beautiful...

Overall cleaning to a high standard and service exceptional. Food was the best ever but restaurant leaves a bit to be desired. The chairs are quite uncomfortable and the bright lights a big too much in the evening. Towels both in the room and at the pool could be better. Entertainment was very good. Hope to return next year.

Wonderful Holiday - Amazing Vegan Food

My partner and I recently returned home, having stayed at the GF Gran Costa Adeje for 16 nights over Christmas / NY.

At the time of booking, due to Covid restrictions, our options for some winter sun were seemingly limited to Dubai or Spain... Traditionally we have opted for more exotic locations, staying in some particularly special hotels; and in all honesty, we had never previously considered Tenerife, as for whatever reason, we had a rather negative preconception; however, having been persuaded by a friend to check out Costa Adeje, we settled on the GF.

Our criteria when searching for a hotel, included 5*; vegan friendly; and all inclusive... Essentially, due to Covid, we wanted to be able to stay within the confines of the hotel for 2 weeks without going stir-crazy.

In short, we had a wonderful time at the GF...

We were lucky enough to have wall to wall sunshine and temperatures in the mid to high 20's on all but 2 days; and as far as the hotel is concerned, we didn't want for anything. Highlights included:

  • Premium booze included in the AI (as big champagne drinkers we were impressed with the quality of the cava)
  • Views (sea to the front, mountains behind; and not an eye-sore to be found for as far as the eye can see)
  • Amenities (including, but not limited to tennis / squash / gym / table tennis / adult pool on roof; and even two nude sunbathing decks, if you're into that)
  • Evening entertainment (decent variety / decent quality / comfortable surroundings)
  • Rooms are comfortable (definitely not luxurious, but well maintained and spacious with everything you might need)
  • The staff (great service all round)
  • The food (if you're vegan, continue reading to the bottom)
  • The surrounding area is up-market, with luxury shopping, restaurants and bars; and a wide-array of activities / excursions available

  • The main restaurant, as a setting, does not feel special (picture up-market canteen); it's perfectly comfortable and functional, but don't expect to sit there enjoying your surroundings
  • The hotel can feel a little crowded when busy (especially if you're used to staying in luxury hotels)

For the benefit of any vegans (vegetarians needn't worry, you're perfectly well catered for) considering booking the GF; but more importantly for the benefit of the GF management, I want to highlight, in particular our experience wrt the food... Prior to our stay, we made sure to notify the hotel that we were vegan; and we were assured that we would be well catered for. However, after our first 2 meals (excluding breakfast) we were utterly dismayed (picture a plate of soggy unseasoned boiled veg) and considered downgrading to B&B. We relayed our displeasure to Sherry (Guest Relations); and from that moment on, we dined like royalty. Honestly, the quality and variety of the cuisine presented to us for the next 2 weeks (3 course meal prepared twice a day specially for us) was of such a high standard that we simply could not believe we were in the same hotel (sample photos attached)... On the one hand we are extremely grateful to Sherry and all of the kitchen staff for turning things around so dramatically; but on the other hand, given they seemingly always had the capability, why did it take a complaint and a ruined first 24 hours to get what we wanted?

Recommendations for anyone booking the GF:

  • Pay the premium for a sea view room; and ask for the 3rd / 4th floor in the middle of the hotel (5th floor rooms have solid balcony fronts that block out the sun); we chose to upgrade from a mountain view room after the first 48 hours and it was the best decision we could have made (basically gives you an extra 1-2 hours of usable sunshine each day)
  • If you have any special dietary requirements make sure you reach out to Guest Relations well in advance and if vegan, I'd suggest you reference this review, so you can hopefully avoid going through the 24 hour calibration period we experienced

Finally, a very special thank you to Sherry for providing fantastic 1:1 support; and to all of the staff, who without exception waited on us hand and foot (always with a smile). To the chefs who went above and beyond for us, thank you so much for making our holiday complete; the vegan food you prepared for us was absolutely stunning; keep up the good work!

We look forward to staying at the GF again in the future!

5 star staff to match the hotel

Review by tony2puddings South Shields, United Kingdom

We stayed fully inclusive from 30th December to 6th January 2022. From check-in to check-out, we had a great time. The food was exquisite and varied (New Year's Eve was special)...

We used La Finca buffet restaurant for most of our meals, but did have some snacks and drinks at Aguita Bar by main pool. We thought booking dinner was a good idea (perhaps extend this to breakfast and lunch as the hotel gets busier to minimise queues). The facilities in the hotel were superb - from mini golf to squash/tennis courts. Our room was ideal e.g. two sinks in bathroom, large mirror, spacious bedroom & balcony (with view of mountains). We liked the towel hire system and guests were discouraged from 'reserving' sunbeds. There were plenty of sunbeds and swimming pools, even though the hotel was probably only half full (there was extra capacity). The evening entertainment was high quality with good table service for drinks. What made our stay special was the staff. They were all so professional, courteous and fun!
