Paradise in the City!

Review by Riley74

Once you step inside the door you slip into a nirvana. Everything about this place is beautiful. Staff are incredible...

Attention to detail is beautiful. The aloe villa where we stayed is perfect in every way. I have to bring up the one thing that if like me you are a light sleeper the main road may bother you but I think you can get over this quickly. Also the cushions on the outside furniture could have been softer. This seems picky and it is but this place is such perfection that it kind of stood out. So many congratulations to royal garden for the unique experience ...I'll be back ! Oh and get yourself up Teide..ask for Jamie at Feel Tenerifee at reception hes fabulous!

Luxury stay in Duchess villa

Review by C1294YYpeterw Compton Martin, United Kingdom

Spent 7 night break booked through Secret Escapes which was good value. Lovely villa and very friendly staff. The overall ambience is similar to a Riad in Marrakesh and very attractive...

We would have liked advance information to assist our arrival in the dark about accessing the parking garage which is the other side of the hotel from reception . Nowhere to park at reception entrance which is very discreet and easy to miss. The hotel provides valet parking once you have found the reception. Good spa (steam room but no sauna) and the communal pool area is high class. Contrary to previous review in The Telegraph, we found the breakfast choice and quality first rate so the manager has clearly improved things. Dinner is quite formal and rather expensive but food and service are excellent. As the menu did not change daily we made use of excellent restaurants in La Caleta as well where the location provides great sunset views as a bonus and just 5 minute drive away. Too far to walk particularly in darkness so hire at really essential at this hotel.

Nice but not anything special. Odd location.

Review by Fleetcat Ko Samui, Thailand

We stayed at the Royal Garden in the middle of a stay at Royal Corales down the road as they were full and we needed something for three nights. We picked something nearby which looked like it would offer a contrast and undoubtedly it did.
Up front I must say our weather was terrible – we just completely hit a bad time...

The second thing is we live in Thailand most of the year so the Balinese / Thai style did not sit well with us. But putting that to one side this is very far from a five star experience. The room is tired and old fashioned – was probably cool when built. The road outside is not appealing. The restaurant is dated and the breakfast ran out of eggs every morning we were there so we had to wait. Due to weather and not finding any of the eating options appealing we survived on room service which was OK.
The outside space is tiny – small pool and the bar is enough for a couple of couples.
No idea what all the fuss is about.

Week of relaxation with kids

Review by suet899 Newcastle, United Kingdom

We were a party of 6 - 2 grandparents, mum and dad and 2 small children. We visited RGV in February half term. It was very peaceful which was the first thing we noticed about the resort...

Totally secluded. The driver found it hard to find when we transferred from the airport, We like to unwind in Tenerife and not do lots of activities to recharge after the Christmas/winter period - we don't like to do much in the evenings either - we really catch up on sleep and spending time with each other as a family. We did not hire a car but I think if you like to get around see places and do activities it is probably a good idea.

Yes it is set between 2 roads but we were at the top level and did not really notice. We had a 3 bedroomed villa [Villa Bali] - 2 upstairs and 1 on the ground floor. There were 4 showers and a bath and 3 TVs. I was pleased to catch a series I was watching as they did get the main English channels. The Villa was styled in a Balinese fashion - little bit too much furniture for my preference but beautiful. The villa has a huge patio and a small pool - just right for the grandchildren aged 7 [good swimmer] and 3 . The 3 year old gained lots of confidence in the pool. We did spend a lot of time in it. We do spend most of our holidays in the pool - it's a priority. I would have liked a bigger private pool but it did work out better than I had first anticipated. My daughter and I like to read in the shade/sun depending on the strength of the rays. It was perfect for this with 3 sunbeds and 8 sunloungers. That was one of the best points - no rushing or competing to get a place round the pool.

We also used the bigger hotel pool a couple of times but we were pretty much the only ones in. Even breakfast was fairly quiet - no queues to be seated. Staff friendly and accommodating. I had wonderful poached eggs freshly cooked each day. A real treat. Otherwise the breakfast buffet had a good selection of fruit, cold meats, a hot counter, breads and sweet pastries. We self catered for the other meals.

The Villa had ample cooking facilities - oven hob and microwave. A fridge [but no freezer which would have been great for ice-cream] and a dishwasher. There was also a washing machine and we were given drying racks after the first day. The Villa was serviced daily Ice and a chocolate were delivered each evening!

Room service was delivered in a timely manner and beautifully set up for us on our patio. However I felt it was a limited choice although all 6 of us found a dish which really suited. We only ordered on 2 nights of our week's stay. For lunch or dinner we bought supplies at the local supermarket which was a fair walk away. We were given bottles of free water each day [I think filtered - you had to pay for mineral water] but it was good for us. My daughter and son-in-law ate in the main restaurant mid-week to celebrate their 10th weddding anniversary. They enjoyed it but felt it was quite expensive - around £150 for the two. They also felt the dinner set up was totally unsuitable for children - we were half expecting this. so had made alternative plans. Room service for 6 of us - all adult portions - [don't think there was a kid's menu] ran to around £100 each time. We don't drink alcohol much - though our Pina Coladas were nice - prices were in line with expectation.

The spa looks lovely but it was very hard to get an appointment. We should have booked before we went. I think there is only one therapist. The one pedicure we managed to book was because of a cancellation - it was more of a nail polish. I like the works when I have a pedicure - but price reflected the less intensive treatment.

Taxis to town were 10 euros approx each time Easy to get even for a party of 6. The family went to the beach one day to meet cousins - it was busy - sun loungers between 6 - 13 euros . Lunch in the cafe in the town shopping precinct came to around 70 euros for 6 adults and 5 kids.[some portions big enough to share] The shopping precinct has a supermarket and some very high end shops - Escada etc The family went back to the beach the next day [to see cousins] - I stayed in the Villa just to relax.

To summarise - we found RGV excellent for the privacy we had. We had a lovely view of the golf course and sea. We really enjoyed it.
