Great hotel but needs some refinements

Review by Scottymrtpi Reigate, United Kingdom

Firstly the areas that need attention (in the hope management take notice), then the good points:

This was a return trip to the hotel and we both felt there were areas that just need refinement

The bar menu needs refining and changing. On the one day we fancied something simple for lunch so we ordered the ‘chicken burger’ to share. We had to send it back it was so disgusting (reformed chicken that looked like rubber tyre strips) even the waiter was embarrassed and told us that in future if we ordered the burger with “real chicken breast” we would get that, but why stock such a horrible form of chicken? we did get our money back but that isn’t the point, a 5 star hotel should not be serving reformed rubbery ‘chicken’ - it was the by the worst thing we had in our stay anywhere on the Island...

Photo of the offending burger enclosed.

Some of the hotel areas seem under-utilised and a bit sad. There is an amazing view of the town from the upper seating area (by the fish restaurant) plus an area of grass with a great view furthest away from the hotel that could be better utilised to make the most of far-reaching views.

The ‘adults only’ pool was often used by children - if you’re going to have an ‘adults only’ rule make sure there are more signs on both sides of the pool and that guests know the hotel rules. The pool safety guards did explain to several parents that their children weren’t allowed in the pool but at times there was some tension and that could be avoided if guests know the rules in advance.

We were surprised there is no welcome drink or cooling hand flannels on arrival to the hotel. Guests can be hot and tired after their plane journey and it’s something other 5 stars hotels are increasingly offering.

The BBQ fire is set up under room balconies of the main wing so on the Sunday evening we were smoked off our balcony and our clothes stank of smoke. Luckily it was just the one evening. Could management move the BBQ fire away from the rooms?

Good points:

The hotel grounds are beautiful and well stocked with shade-giving palms, the pools are wonderful too. Tip: The adults only pool is slightly heated to take away the initial chill.

The staff are wonderful, hard working, and always friendly, even the cleaning staff always say “hello”.

The hotel phone App was very useful for ordering fresh towels, soap and room service. We found the App very useful.

The room cleaning is excellent and to a high standard, I also used the in-house laundry service which was excellent and prompt.

The drinks are very good and pool service was usually good - tip: try pressing the waiter buttons situated around the pool if they are busy.

The hotel is very well located to the beach, and to lots of good quality local restaurant - La Caletta (a lovely sea front village) is just 25 mins walk along the promenade which is wheelchair and disabled friendly - the hill leading back to the hotel is pretty steep though.

All-in-all we had a great holiday and would return to the hotel - just don’t order the chicken burger!! 😂

thank you for a lovely holiday

2nd visit

Review by hanscotty Reigate, United Kingdom

I don’t often like returning to the same hotel more than once but due to COVID restrictions and because we enjoyed our previous stay, we decided to revisit this hotel. On arrival check in was efficient, however I did feel like we caught them off guard as there was no one on reception, we also weren’t offered a welcome drink which I was sure we had been on our previous stay and is almost to be expected in a five star hotel these days. Our room had a sea view and was very spacious, the bed was made up with twin beds which wasn’t ideal for us so after a phone call to reception they made the bed into a double for us...

The room is extremely clean and has clearly been redecorated during lockdown as the paintwork was immaculate. There is a turn down service in the evening where you get bottles of water and chocolates. We were also given a bottle of cava for our anniversary which was a nice touch. Breakfast was always very good with a vast selection of food to choose from. We would usually have lunch at the pool bar, I don’t think the food there is as good as I remember, the tapas and sandwiches were nice but the chicken burger was processed meat. Most evenings we would venture out for dinner and walk up the large hill on the way back. Some good restaurants nearby are la torre del mirador and la Nonna. The hotel app is very useful as you can view menus and ask for things rather than having to go to reception. I do think the hotel needs to work on the consistency of food and service, some days it was hard to get served as there didn’t always seem to be enough waiting staff. I’d also like them to utilise the outside space better, there are some areas which are barely used but have the best views. Overall still a quality hotel and it was good to return for a week of sun.

Really enjoyable stay

Review by G_ATRM Glasgow, United Kingdom

This was a great hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. A few things which may help you out:

  • The big negative of this hotel is that is well located in Adeje, but at the top of a very steep hill. If you want a holiday where you’re planning to be out and about, enjoying local eating and drinking and exploring the area, be prepared for a big steep walk home or taxis.
  • We found the worst thing was obtaining enough water to stay hydrated...

You get 4 cartons in the mini bar but they are small and 2.50 euros each. Your closest shop is a 24/7 mini market at the bottom of the hill, just along from the GF Costa Adeje Gran. Every other day we bought 12 bottles of water or 8l to refill them but it’s physically exhausting carrying it up the hill. Sometimes we went out for dinner far away we would buy water and get taxi back.

  • We visited end of Sep/early oct 21. The hotel doesn’t seem quite full yet, but it’s hard to tell. One restaurant and one bar were closed but it didn’t matter.
  • Breakfast is from 7.30am to 11am. We found that 7.30am is extremely quiet, peak time is around 9-9.30am. They filled tables very efficiently though and there was never a time we didn’t get a table right away.
  • We had a villa with an outdoor whirlpool bath. These are great. You can fill it hot or cold or somewhere in between.
  • We never had an issue with getting a sun lounger throughout our 2 week trip. For just one day in the middle there was a wedding so a lot of the pool was closed off for this but even on that day we got beds fine. I don’t know if this is just because the hotel is under capacity or whether that is usual.
  • There is no reservation of sun beds and on the whole people stuck to that. We were confused at first as lots of beds had towels on them, but then we realised that the hotel do this in the morning. We’re not sure why. But you can just take them. If you just leave towels, a staff member does tour around every 30 mins and just removes those. You need to leave possessions (flip flops, bags, sunglasses, etc) to show you are in pool or around and about.
  • The wedding had extremely loud fireworks, set off from just outside the villas at around 10pm. The hotel were good at warning us about most minor things, eg access ramps being closed, but didn’t tell us about this. Could have been very scary for young kids.
  • We did not use a car, but the hotel appears to have ample parking.
  • Everything is very very clean and very very well maintained. It’s really apparent everywhere.
  • There is a turndown service, which could be any time between 5-8pm. Be warned, if no red STOP label added to the door, the maid can just wander in! Sometimes she would ring the bell first but not always. They leave chocolates. If we were in and I answered door we were handed the chocs and given the option of new towels.
  • I’d recommend eating out locally. Some top tips - San Marco is a lovely pizzeria, La Tosca a good Italian, Bombay Babu is a fantastic Indian but the one is torviscus is better than the one close to the hotel and Miranda Mx is a great mexican - order the panchos nachos starter to share and 2 of you will not need any more food. You can also get 1l jugs of frozen margarita. Mokelino in Los Cristianos for tapas (or secrets tasca in la caletta - not yet reopened). Thai botanico in safari centre was our fav - amazing Thai food and good cocktails too.
  • We got no late check out. You are only allowed to ask on the day. Instead they noted that you can just use the changing rooms and showers in the spa. You can just go in and use them. Separate for men and women. And it turns out they were great - large, spacious, no one else there, contains changing area, Showers and toilets. Note no shampoo or shower gel in showers.
  • If you use the app and log-in the room you’ll get notifications from the hotel eg telling you the cocktail of the day at the pool bar.
  • You can charge anything back to you room during your stay. You’ll be asked to sign for it.
  • Cleaners could sometimes look to get in room as early as 8am so we got in habit of putting the STOP sign on door night before. When they did clean the room they seemed to do really good job and very quickly. We always found the room had been cleaned by the time we got back later in the afternoon.
  • There are a lot of pools. The long adults only pool and the one next to it are heated. The two large pools in the middle with the waterfall are not heated.
  • The pool you see from breakfast is for spa customers.
  • There are large beds around the pools. We thought these were for suite residents or had to be paid for but actually anyone can take them.
  • Mask wearing enforced, as anywhere in Tenerife.

A wonderful first trip abroad after 18 months

Review by ZaraNaylor23 Bristol, United Kingdom

Beautiful hotel, great service and nothing too much trouble. Gorgeous room, cleaned daily and every night we returned to our sheets turned down and a chocolate next to our pillow. The pools (5 in total) immaculate, kept clean & tidy throughout the day...

Only had bed & breakfast as we like to try different places when away. Fabulous daily selection and again staff friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would highly recommend

Welcome pubes in shower

Review by jac1999 London, United Kingdom

I was a “walk in” customer for 4 nights. First impressions lousy. Pubes in the shower, faulty TV and a pretty tired room (although very big). Next day threatened with eviction if I didn’t pay the full 4 days upfront which I objected to. Breakfasts were disappointing, lunch restaurant bland.

There are gorgeous hotels in Adeje, this might have been one, but it isn’t anymore.
