Suprised it is a luxury hotel at all. Feel like a Holiday Inn.

We really expected more from a small luxury collection hotel. This was probably the worst 1 we have stayed at. It feel more like a 3-4 star hotel...

When we arrived there was no one to te our bags and when we were waiting at the lobby to check in they were having some kind of training for the staff. No one stopped to help us and we had to wait at least 5-10 mins until someone even greeted us.

The room are very out of date. I would stay it feel more like a Travelodge or holiday Inn than a high end hotel. The amount of detail just isn't there. As a elite member of hyatt usually they will provide free bottles of water a a bottle of wine. When we arrived in our room there was wine and water but no bottle opener or wine glasses. The shower is very old and there isn't even a mini fridge in the room.

The staff are all in their teens or early 20s and don't really speak English. The breakfast isn't alright but they don't even have a menu or tell you what you can order. I had to ask another guest about how to order an omelette.

The highlight was probably Flamm, another hotel that has a beach that has a partnership with the marmara. The problem is that it is a 25 taxi away and only has 1 drop off at 11am and a pickup at 6pm. If you miss this you have to make your own way over.

Our overall experience here was probably one of the worst out of any 5 star hotel we have been to.

Tired rooms, nice view

When we entered the Mamara Bodrum we were very excited. Eclectic, whimsical art in the lobby, brightly colored furniture, and a fabulous view. Now to the real review...

The rooms are very tired, and the electrical system is a mess. This may have been five star in the past, but not now. All the staff seems very inexperienced and young, with no adults in sight. One more positive…the food is great. But with a Mandarin Oriental in town, they better clean up their act, or there will be much less business.

Dirty, Dated facilities

We had originally planned to stay several days in this hotel but left after the first night. I am giving it two stars because the front desk lady who spoke English was very kind. However, our bed was like a trampoline, the bathroom was horrific with a tub that wouldn’t drain and a burned out light...

The worst was the stains on the nightstand and the headboard which grossed us out. They gave us a key that was bigger than my purse for our room and there is no key card system. When we complained, the staff seemed shocked and looked at us like we were from another planet. This is unfortunately not a luxury hotel. We are happy we were able to be refunded for the nights we didn’t stay because it wasn’t cheap either. We should have been refunded for all of it!

Unique property with phenomenal views

I was very surprised to see previous reviews. We started in this hotel for 2 night and were completely smitten by design, quality of rooms, facilities and of course phenomenal view of the whole island and marina.Hotel staff should be trained better, we only met couple of people who actually knew what service is all about. We couldn’t get coffee in a lobby for almost an hour, for breakfast service almost didn’t exist. Some staff tried to do something but still need some major training.

Lovely hotel in need of a service overhaul

We chose this boutique hotel so that we could be close to Bodrum town, which was a great idea since all the action is in Bodrum. The hotel is situated on a hill and has great views overlooking Bodrum - however, it is not walking distance to town - you will need to take a cab -- this is not a big deal and not expensive. The hotel is very lovely - with all sorts of tasteful decor and nice touches throughout...

What I liked best was how subtle the decor was - it made for a very elegant feeling. For example, the bathrooms in the lobby have these cool doors that become opaque when you lock them and clear when they are not occupied.

The pool area is beautiful — overlooking the town below. However, the real treat is the beach club! We spent nearly the whole day there. The club is Flamm - so it is one of the nicest in the area. It is complementary with the hotel room (and the parking is complementary as well). They have a private area for the hotel guests which is really nice since there were some really poorly behaved families on the other part of the club. Actually we could not use the main pier because of the poorly behaved children and adults reeking havoc (so we could not manage to get near there...). This made it particularly nice to be in the private hotel area. Food and drink service at the beach club was exceptional - the food was fresh and the drinks very nice. Not terribly expensive.

At the hotel, the rooms are really nicely appointed, with subtle and elegant touches (as is the case in the common areas). The rooms have balconies overlooking the town below with comfortable chairs to sit. The shower pressure and the AC are fabulous. The beds were very comfortable so we slept well - although the room is not so well sound proofed (not a big issue).

Breakfast was tasty and plentiful although it was hard for us to communicate. The breakfast area is in a lovely location, overlooking the town below with great views.

Overall, service was not so great mostly because of communication issues and it seems like most of the staff are inexperienced. So they did not seem to anticipate our needs as you might expect for more experienced staff - this combined with the language barrier made for some service gaffs. Most of these were amusing not serious - such as when we were at breakfast trying to order fried eggs....

However, we had a very bad experience during the checkin, which I will convey in detail since it was one of our worst check-in experiences ever. We were delayed in arriving because we had to drive around to avoid the fires in the area. Obviously the fires alone were enough to alarm us and make us anxious. Nonetheless, I had the presence of mind to call the hotel and explained that we would be arriving around 8 pm (instead of the expected 6pm) and I asked them to change our dinner reservation from 8:30 to 9pm.

Upon our arrival, the person at reception greeted us by pointing to his watch and saying “you have a dinner reservation in 5 minute”. He did not welcome us or ask us if we had a good safe journey (which of course we did not, since we had a harrowing journey with the fires etc.). I was completely stunned and I asked if he had moved up the dinner reservation since I had called to ask him to do so. He said that he was unable to reach the restaurant - either because he was too busy or the restaurant was (I was not sure what he meant). I immediately called the restaurant and had no issue getting through on the first try. And they were very nice about telling us it was no problem to move the reservation.. So it was no big deal at all.

In the meanwhile, my husband finished the check in and we went to our rooms, which were supposed to be connecting -- we had communicated with the hotel the day before and were assured that they had reserved connecting rooms for us - which we were very happy and excited about. However, the rooms did not appear to be connecting since there was a room in between the two rooms. We went back to reception and asked about this and the man at reception said the rooms are close by, they had not connecting rooms, the hotel is full, etc etc. We were very frustrated and my husband explained that we had just confirmed the day before that the rooms should be connecting - the man said they did not have connecting rooms and that they were full.

After the not very welcome reception we got, we rushed like crazy to go to dinner - when we came back to the lobby to go to dinner, the man at the reception was very nice to my husband explaining about the lack of connecting rooms etc. I was struck by how much nicer he was to my husband than to me - it was very concerning to me that he would treat a woman so differently than a man....

The next day - the agent who booked our reservation got back in touch with us and assured us that the rooms were indeed connecting and that housekeeping just needed to open the door. And they were connecting rooms. So, this guy at reception was not only rude, he was not competent — how do you not know that the rooms you assign are connecting…

So, this hotel SHOULD be a 5 -- or maybe even a 6 -- but because of this service experience, I cannot give it more than a 3. I think the hotel needs to be particularly aware of a reception agent who is rude to women.
