Gunes Hotel

We had read all the reviews before booking Gunes and i can say we were not disappointed. 11 of us stayed for 1 week but wished it was longer and we all agree what a lovely hotel right in the center of the promenade this is. Some of our group had stayed in Calis 2 to 3 times before at Jiva Beach and while Gunes is not Jiva beach for a hotel with bed and breakfast and a very relaxed, clean and friendly atmosphere it will take some beating. Our rooms were well maintained, cleaned daily including towels and the Turkish breakfast had something for everyone from Cereal to Meats and olives and omelets and fried eggs. The staff were all helpful, polit and friendly and are always available 24 hours if needed. I honestly cant say anything negative about this place and could go on and on and will stay again next year. While all staff were great there is one member who makes your time there so much fun and thats Oktay AKA Rambo who is always smiling and full of beans and runs the bar. Nothing is too much trouble for him and we all had a great laugh together and he looked after not just us but everyone in the bar and left us with great memories as well as a friendship and we cant wait to go back to say hello next year to everyone at Gunes.

Spot on, great location, hotel clean and tidy, towels and beds made everyday. Shower was amazing! Breakfast had something for everyone. All staff were friendly, and polite! Especially Rambo! And the bar, would go out of his way for all the guests! Would definitely come back! Group of 11 of us, and we all loved our stay.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in September.
I'll start off with the good points. The location of the hotel is excellent, right on the beach front with lots of bars and restaurants around serving lovely food. Morris on reception was very helpful and friendly, Oktay at the bar is such a happy chap too. Breakfast is your typical Turkish, average to say the least. The usual bread, eggs, cold meats, salad, jams. You could get fresh eggs cooked either fried or plain omelette. There was a lot of returning guests at this hotel and I did hear people saying that standards have gone down at this hotel however in the main everyone was very friendly.

Now the bad points. We stayed in a ground floor room as my husband has mobility problems. As ours was the last on the block, it was next to a large flower bed which we soon learned was basically a giant cat toilet !!! The smell was horrendous and on looking in the flower bed a lot of it had been there a very long time. Also, this is right next to the dining area where breakfast is served so could pose a health risk??
I quickly brought this to the attention of the hotel on more than one occasion, all the gardener did was hose the area with water which did not solve the problem. I went to see the receptionist yet again after a few days about it as we could not sit out on the balcony because of the smell and I was promptly told to "go and see the barman as they are his cats" (I believe this receptionist was called Ali?) This is not the attitude I was expecting as a paying guest in this hotel. We eventually had to move to a first floor room which was not ideal for my husband but we did manage. Incidentally, the next couple to move into the ground floor room we had encountered the problem in, ended up moving their table and chairs from the balcony to the corridor at the back where the entrance door to the room is !! The rooms are in dire need of updating and a deep clean There is definitely a need for more cleaners as the general cleanliness of the hotel is rather lacking. On speaking with other guests, some people seem to have no problem with getting fresh towels or bed linen changed and others it was barely done. The pool area was not cleaned very often either during our 2 week stay. One lady had to go and find someone to sweep all the leaves and dirt up before she could put her belongings down and go on her sunbed.
There are plenty of sunbeds however as someone else previously stated, people reserved theirs for the duration of the holiday. We were told by regular returners to just choose your bed and leave your towels out, something that doesn't sit right with me but as everyone else was doing it we joined them. That said, there was always plenty of sunbeds available so it's not like you couldn't get a bed.

It is a shame as this could be such a nice hotel as it is in a prime location. It is in dire need of a bit of updating and cleaning but personally I will not be returning to this hotel as the standards are not what I would expect. I did hear people saying that the all inclusive hotel next door had their sights set on this hotel, how true that is I do not know but maybe this is why the owner of the Gunes is not willing to spend money on improving what could be a little gem of a hotel.
