TripAdvisor Review

Great beach and snorkelling, resort needs updating.

Review by R1922JDmattt Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Visited early December 2021. This is our second trip to the Maldives. This island is Beautiful with white sand beaches and lots of greenery and palm trees...

The sea life and snorkelling is fantastic, directly off the beach you can see hundreds and hundreds of different coloured fish, turtles, sharks and rays. It’s a 45 minute speedboat transfer from Male. Housekeeping, bar and restaurant staff are all very good. The resort does need updating and painting and furniture could do with being replaced, the reception and management staff were poor to be honest. Food was good. You get what you pay for describes this resort. Weather was fantastic as was the beach and snorkelling. It is a middle of the road resort but if you’re going for the weather and snorkelling/diving and not a luxurious resort then You will enjoy this island.

Great property, food could be better.

The resort is lovely. An hour from velana airport(male) on a speedboat. The marine life is something else! The diving center at the resort offers snorkelling tours and scuba diving...

We loved snorkelling. The beach bar is one of the favorite spots of the resort guests. If you're lucky, you might just spot reef sharks while you sip on a sundowner cocktail. For indians who are vegetarians, the food might be a disappointment, less veg options. Even at the beach bar less healthy snack options, but hey of you're willing to let loose and kick back on junk food, there's French fries, burgers and sandwiches at the bar. The pizza is worth a try, has a homemade feel to it. Staff is helpful. All in all, a great place to stay :)

Our best holidays ever

We had great time on Eriyadu Island Resort, delicious food, wonderful staff and beautiful reef around island. Every evening you can spend time on animation in main bar. Island is tiny, but you can’t be bored, you can rent kayak, go on jet ski, play badminton, dart, table tenis etc...

Best regards for whole staff! Hope to see you guys again! ❤️

Second visit

Review by 219andersh Stockholm, Sweden

This was our second visit to Eriyadu (last time was in 2018). We love snorkelling, the reef and the shape of the island is our strongest argument for coming back AND we found a great deal via booking.com. The reef is damaged/partly dead, just like all reefs in the Maldives, but you can see some re-growth which is positive...

The shape and size of the island makes it possible to snorkle around the whole island in one go. Being a round shaped island also gives you one side that is calmer so you can almost always snorkle some part of the reef even on windy days.

The resort is a simple one with only one restaurant that serves all meals buffet-style. There is a large section with "local" food such as curries and chapatis and they are not afraid to add some spice. This type of food was always good. The western style dishes are a hit and miss but that didn't bother us much since we prefer the spicy, local food.

The resort in general has not been freshened up, it was in need of some TLC already back in 2018. One thing that we never could get our heads around is the star rating. Some websites rate them as 4 star and some as 2+. Reality, according to us, is more of a 3 star level. It's understandable that some previous guests have been dissapointed if they have been sold the idea of a 4 star establishment and has paid full price.

Our room - we had a sky room (but on ground level). Pros: the bed was fantastic just as last time, pillows too. The cleaning crew did a great job even though they only came once a day (no turn-down service due to covid protocol). Cons: we were on ground level and the sliding door towards the beach didn't have a lock, the latch-thing was completely missing. We didn't bother complaining about this, cause we were very happy to be on the ground floor with direct access to the beach so instead we went for a MacGyver-style solution and put the legs of the small coffee table on the floor railing and propped the armchair next to it to make it impossible to open the sliding door from outside. Not great but hey, it worked! Just as last time in 2018 the shower didn't drain properly so after a shower there was water everywhere.

The reef - very good shark sightings even though the nurse sharks were not hanging around the pier every day this time. We did see them here and there on the reef and twice by the pier but in 2018 it was 100% guarantee to meet them by the pier at any time of the day. We also saw lots of black tips and four different turtles and the massive school of surgeon fish (convicts and powder blues). There was of course also a good mix of all the usual fish with beautiful colours. Top tip for evening entertainment: go to the end of the pier after dark and watch the travellies hunt in the lights and enjoy the nurse sharks patrolling back and forth.

Service: Restaurant - in the restaurant there was two guys that were really good, the rest seemed very junior and uncomfortable/not skilled in interacting with guests. We were lucky to get great attention from the more senior waiter, so we had mostly good experiences in the restaurant. Main bar - in the bar there were about three guys that were fantastic and a few that definitely could need some more work training. The beach bar on the other side was closed due to covid. Front office/General Management - the staff present at Front office were nice and helpful but there is something really weird in their communication channels. This was our second visit and I had been chatting for weeks with a sales rep via booking.com where this had been mentioned several times but when we arrived the front office staff had absolutely no idea that we were repeaters. Not the end of the world of course, but it had been a nice touch to be recognized as repeaters.

Will we come back for a third visit?? Maybe, if we see photos or vlogs showing some work being done to freshen up the place and if there is good deals cause the current "normal" price is a bit too high considering to the value you get.

This might sound like a negative review but it's not. We knew what to expect, a simple island with good curries, cold beer and great snorkelling. We are very, very happy with our stay at Eriyadu and we hope that management will spend some time and effort on improving some small details and take care of the structures that are eroding (the concrete jettys).
