Fantastic holiday in difficult times

Review by StuartAnn Edinburgh, United Kingdom

I would just like to thank all the management and staff at Filitheyo for a wonderful holiday.

We stayed at Filitheyo from 16th March to 27th. From these dates you can surmise it was at the start of coronavirus outbreak in United Kingdom . We traveled because the Foreign Office was still stating it was fine to travel to Maldives and our tour operator also said we could not cancel without loosing all our money.

I'm glad we went as everyone at Filitheyo made our stay fantastic.

I would like to mention a few people in particular who we came in contact with regularly . Kasim our house boy who looked after us extremely well nothing was to much trouble and for my birthday he made a special effort and decorated the bed splendidly. Okil ,Muffa, Raj at the sunset bar who always had a smile on their faces even when they had to lug heavy trays over to our water villa , More about that later.Although I mention these guys everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Hussain one of the F & B managers who went above and beyond what you would expect as normal service , and last but not least Riza who looked after us in the main restaurant...

All the chefs in the main buffet restaurant who kept us all supplied with wonderful food, we especially loved the local fare fish curries etc.

Half way through our stay we got a rather alarming call from the Maldivian health authorities to say that a fellow passenger on our sea plane transfer , who was travelling to a different island , was complaining of symptoms of the virus and we were to isolate until this person had been tested . We could not leave the room to go to the bars and restaurants but this is where the management stepped up and made what could have been a very horrible situation not only bearable but actually enjoyable . We were extremely lucky as we had a fabulous room with a large deck and direct access to the sea and we were told to order from the a la cart menu and all drinks and food would be left at our front door . Can't thank management enough for this what a difference it made and the boys at sunset bar were fantastic carrying heavy trays over the causeway to our room thank you all very much .

We got the good news after three days that the person complaining of feeling unwell had tested negative and we were free to leave our rooms.

Over these few days things had escalated and people were struggling to get flights home , most governments including ours were telling their nationals to get home ASAP. The managers at the front desk did a great job in an incredibly difficult situation to liaise with many different airlines to get their guests home. Our homeward flight from Doha to Edinburgh was cancelled but they managed to get us re booked for the following day . By the end of our stay there were only thirteen guests and the last guest would be leaving the next day. My thoughts go out to all the staff on the island as a lot of them are on three year contracts and they have a difficult decision to make as the island is closing down for three months . Speaking to the management I know the hotel was going to have 100% occupancy over the easter period and I hope that they will recover from this devastating blow. Once more I thank the management and staff for a wonderful time in an extreme situation. Management is easy if things go to plan the real test is when something out of the norm happens as this did, and you all passed with flying colours.

Once more from the bottom of our hearts thank you Stuart & AnnMarie

Filitheyo Resort a paradise in these troubled times

Review by 103stuarta

We were lucky to get away during these very troubled times and Filitheyo is a haven of peace and tranquillity. The island is stunning and the staff fantastic. I don't want to go on to much but the island and the reef are fantastic . We are in a water bungalow and when you slip into the water a whole world of exotic fish suround you...

The resort is very quiet at the moment but all the staff are waiting to look after you. The reason for our visit was a special birthday for me and they pulled out all the stops, birthday cake special decorations in the room and the put us in room 23 which is at the end of the row of water bungalows and the uninterupted views are outstanding. This review is to let every one know the resort is open and looking forward to welcoming more guests

Perfect mid-range resort with top range diving

Review by jennyd377 Dorchester, United Kingdom

Sand beneath the feet and open plan living. Family loved the international buffets. All supported by very competant and friendly staff. We were on a family diving holiday - excellent organisation from managers and staff at the dive centre made it a wonderful trip, especially the enthusiastic dive-guiding of Guy from Milan who found all the interesting stuff and made sure we all saw it!

Feel good island

Review by Dranreb_N Hamburg, Germany

This was my 19th trip to Maldives and my 2nd to Filitheyo after 2018. Filitheyo has some distinctive assets: it is the only tourist island in the whole atoll. You will not see any other boats, planes, snorkel groups whatever, leading to a unique tranquility...

And on the dive spots, no other divers. The staff is extremely friendly and their smiles brighten up yor holiday. The island has more than 3.000 palm trees as part of a very rich flora. Compare that to new artificial islands where two dozens of stolen palm trees stand alone in the sand. The original fauna produces a cooler climate which is very helpful so close to the equator. The bungalows are old, but completely fine. The restaurant offers a huge variety and the quality is superb. Bars, service, Spa, excursions ... there is a lot to discover to make your holiday even better. The house reef is better than many others because due to the composition of coral species and the exposed position with lots of fresh water exchange, less coral died during the 2016 global mass bleaching event, and even more started to regrow earlier. You can have hours of relaxed snorkelling with all the common reef fish you desire. Plus turtles and dolphins if you are lucky. Diving earns highest grades. The staff are all very nice without exception. The service is good, the rental equipment almost new. Alone in the atoll means beautiful boat trips without any traffic at all plus never seeing another dive boat chasing away the fish at your dive spot. Depending in your preferences you can enjoy rough channel dives with challenging currents for big fish, or easy in-atoll dives for macro-experiences. There is always something to discover and there are no boring dives. I hope tourism re-opens soon and that many of the staff can return to their jobs. Filitheyo is one of the few original islands which provides authentic experience.

Beautiful Resort in Paradise

Review by MikeRorstad San Diego, California

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort. We enjoyed a beachfront bungalow for the first half of the visit and then upgraded to an over-the-water bungalow (#35). The excursions that we took advantage of were a snorkeling safari, night fishing, a resort SCUBA trip, and an amazing blue light night snorkel where the reef and sea life glowed! Amazing beauty all around!! We debated between half-board (breakfast & dinner & no drinks included) and all-inclusive...

One of us does not drink alcohol so we chose half-board. Half board was sufficient but non-alcoholic drinks (including water) are full price.
