We stayed for 12 wonderful nights at Ifuru from the 2nd to the 14th Feb, and wished we didn’t need to leave when it came time to, which we always see as a sign of a good holiday. I’ve tried to split my review into sections describing each aspect of the resort we experienced.

Beach and Sea – They are clean and tidy, the staff do a fantastic job at keeping the resort like this all the time. The water is warm, and so clear, you can see the fish swimming around you. It’s bliss! Worth noting there is quite a bit of broken coral around, so wearing water shoes is a good idea, we had them and were very glad we did.

Room – We were in the beach suite, it was lovely and spacious, and only a few seconds walk from the back door to the waters edge. The room was cool (thanks to the air-conditioning and the ceiling fan) and the bathroom was a good size too. It may have been nice to have some cupboard and drawer space for clothes that aren’t hung up. There is a shelf, but this is outside the wardrobe, so your clothes are out in the room which is a little strange.

Staff – From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, the staff were friendly and attentive. A shout out to the staff at Waterfront (Rocky, Yadde, Manzoom, Pasek, Ari, Nipun) who made us feel so special and welcome whenever we ate there. Apologies to the chefs, I didn’t get your names, but the food you cooked was incredible, we loved it all!

Also, to the staff at the beach front bar (Raj, Sumit, Sakshi) who were always happy to see us and have a little chat where they had the time between serving great drinks.

The biggest thank you and shout to Hasith who came to clean our room each day. He was so friendly, attentive and kind, helping us a few times sorting some requests. His sand art at the front door, towel art in the room, and leaf and flower artwork on the bed always left us speechless and so happy. He is a credit to the resort and really helped with our enjoyment of the holiday.

Apologies to any other staff members I didn’t get the name of. Generally, all staff were fantastic, friendly, and attentive.

Restaurants – For us the Waterfront is the best restaurant by far. The food is incredible, the service outstanding, and the wine and drinks delicious. The wine we found to be the best selection in the resort. We highly recommend the Teppanyaki, it was a fantastic experience, Nipun is a skilled chef and makes the evening good fun! The 30$ per person (plus 26% service and tax) is well worth it!

The Social House is a nice buffet, although when we first arrived, we didn’t get a booking into the Waterfront or Palm Grill for the first few nights and so did get a bit bored of buffet after the 5th night. I’d therefore recommend you try and get your buddy to book as many of the other restaurants too.

The Palm Grill we didn’t find the best. We had 4 nights in this restaurant, and only went to 2 of them, the other 2 we paid to have the Teppanyaki as we found it so much better than the Palm Grill. I realise others like this restaurant, but a couple of other guests we spoke to in the resort thought the same as us, that the food just isn’t anywhere near the quality of the Waterfront. E.g. being served raw broccoli and parsnip with your meat isn’t very nice. Or such underdone halloumi that its basically uncooked. Things like this left us wanting to eat elsewhere.

The pizza hut on the beach is open from mid-morning to early evening, serving excellent pizzas. It’s worth noting you can ask them to make a pizza for you and they will gladly do so, this way you can get other flavours of pizza too.

We tried the beach bar food and found it inconsistent. One of the days the chips were extremely greasy and overcooked, and the chicken quesadilla had so much cheese it was all you could taste, all served on paper plates. And then another day the burger and chips were fantastic and served on black tiles. It felt like two different food outlets at times.

Bars – We found the Hubba Hubba bar to be chilled during the day, and quite lively and very loud during the evenings. The drink selection was good at this bar, with a nice selection of spirits and wines, plus Tiger on draft. We did notice it seemed to close earlier than advertised, one-night last orders being 11.15pm.

Beach Bar – The real downside of this bar is it closes around 6, so just as the sun sets. It would be great to see it open till 7, just to give you that bit longer to enjoy the end of the sunshine. Also, I noticed a couple of times certain spirits would go out of stock and not be refreshed for a couple of days which was a little annoying.
In room Mini Bar - doesn’t have great choice and it doesn’t get cold, but we just brought drinks back from the bar when we wanted drinks in the room. Worth noting drinks back to your room come in paper cups, although you have glasses in your room you can transfer them to.

Wildlife – We just stayed around the island and didn’t try any excursions, we felt the price of them was too much, especially as we’d spoken to some who had done them and said they didn’t see the sea life they went to see e.g. the dolphin cruise. Obviously, this isn’t the hotels fault, they can’t control the sea life! We were lucky that as we arrived, we got off the sea plane and were met by a pod of dolphins. Towards the end of the stay I heard from a staff member in Waterfront that the dolphins often pass the waterfront at 11am each day. So may be worth a look if you’re there! Waterfront in the evenings have the sharks swimming around the lights, along with loads of fish. You can also see loads of fish around the waters of the island, including rays and turtles. Note the reef isn’t great though, with a lot of broken / dead / dying corral. On land lots of bats fly around, and the little hermit crabs are cute to see in the early evening, as well as the lizards that all come out in the evening.

We had an amazing 12 nights at Ifuru, especially for the price we paid. I’d recommend the resort as a place to go to relax in the tropical sunshine and waters, see some stunning wildlife, enjoy good food at Waterfront restaurant, and excellent service from all the staff!

Relaxing in Paradise never felt so good!

This is a little different review for me, this is in no way meant to be negative although it may appear so in places. Ifuru is a beautiful island, and we had an amazing holiday, but these are just things I think people potentially need to be made aware of (I wish I had known these potential niggles). Having been to two other islands in the Maldives, it is important to know the feel of an island as we are all different but also paying a lot of money so want to make sure the island is the right one.

Domestic Flights:
After two flights we arrived at Male at 8am, unfortunately our domestic flight was not until 1.30pm so we had to wait all that time in the domestic waiting area. We found this extremely hard as the seats are extremely uncomfortable and obviously, we were very tired, we just wanted to get there.

On the way home it was a very early start (picked up from our bungalow at 3.50am) as we were on the first domestic flight off the island and unfortunately, we didn’t think this was managed very well due to the luggage scanner not working. Everyone gathered at reception at 4am (luggage picked up the evening before) and then we were all taken to the terminal where we could see all our luggage. Then one by one, each party was taken through to a room for all luggage to be manually searched (this annoyingly meant everything was then all messed up when already been packed). This was frustratingly slow as every item seemed to be checked, and questions asked. As everyone had to do this, it made our flight over an hour and a half delayed to Male. We had another pick up at another island on the way to Male so this then had a knock on effect, rushing to get our early flight so just felt it was stress that could have been avoided if Ifuru had dealt with the searching of luggage better i.e. took people to the terminal earlier to account for this. We felt tired just going through this never mind the two flights we had ahead of us, it was another exceptionally long day home.

This has put us off domestic flights, all the above was a lot of hassle for a 30-minute flight to the airport, so we wouldn’t do them again.

Bars:
We wished we had known this - there is really only one bar in the evening (Hubba Bubba). It is sold that there is a bar in the ‘Waterfront’ restaurant, which we thought we would be in the most when we booked, but this is really only a small bar for the restaurant. It has a small outside area with a few nets to lie on but no seating, so we do think this is miss-sold a little as a quiet bar to sit and relax in an evening when you cannot.

Hubba Bubba is nice enough but has very samey entertainment each night inside. The outside area, even though large doesn’t have many seats to just sit outside, chill in a quieter setting.

The beach bar is lovely during the day and a pity it doesn’t open slightly later into the evening as very relaxed, and the staff were great. They have a little shack in the afternoon that serves burgers, chips etc which were lovely and freshly made.

Restaurants:
The food in the buffet restaurant ‘Social House’ was lovely and lots of choice. Maybe more salad selection would be nice for us but we do have to remember where in the world we are, and it is an island so everything was more than adequate.

The two al la cartes were a pleasant change, both in scenery and to be waited on. We found the Waterfront the nicest food wise, but the outside setting of Palm Grill was lovely. I do not really like commenting on the food itself as we are all so different with our preferences.

Pool Area:
There is a large pool area, and this does get very busy. We have never experienced this in the Maldives before as never really saw people during the day at the other islands we have been to but with Ifuru having the sky suites then understandably people need to go somewhere during the day. We just relaxed outside our bungalows on the beach in the daytime and that was beautiful and very relaxing.

Accommodation:
We spent our first 5 nights in a 2-bedroom villa with pool as our original booking of 2 x beach bungalows was not available for the beginning of our holiday. Obviously with this being an upgrade we were ok with that when we arrived. The villa itself had two lovely spacious rooms/bathrooms but unfortunately the pool attracted a lot of mosquitos, so we were bitten a lot. The villa was located right at the far end of the island by reception, but it was set further away from the sea. It was however by the beach bar which, as already mentioned did end up being our favourite bar on the island.

After the 5 nights we moved to the beach bungalows we had originally booked. This took a few hours as we had to be out of the villa, but our bungalows weren’t ready so did feel we lost a bit of our holiday. But once there, we felt much more at home and relaxed from here on in. We had plenty of beach in front of the bungalows and we had no more bites. We all said we wished we had these bungalows from the start. 
We were located near the main pool area, so it wasn’t far to walk for a change of scenery or the bar. We also walked back down to the beach bar most days too. I did feel sorry for anyone staying at the other end of the island as it was a fair trek to get to anything from that end. I know buggy’s are always available if needed but I thought a little shack bar would have been nice at that end.

General:
One of the reasons for our visit was it was my mum and dad’s 50th wedding anniversary and this was known as it appeared on our itinerary in the app. We had a meal booked at the Waterfront restaurant and we were expecting at least something to be acknowledged as nothing else had during the day (not even any towel art), but nothing was mentioned at all which was disappointing. The day after, our buddy messaged to ask if we received the cake during our meal and I told her we had not. When they were getting ready later that evening, the housekeeper did arrive to put some art on their bed, but he literally was doing this around them in the bedroom whilst they were getting ready so was a little bad timing and awkward. They just felt the occasion had passed with no effort, so they were disappointed.

I think because of the sky suites, Ifuru does attract a lot of groups. There seemed to be a lot of people around and near the end of the holiday there was a really big group that arrived and they literally took over the place, so we were glad to be leaving in the next day or so to be honest as the atmosphere did seem to shift so maybe something to be aware of maybe.

Overall, I wouldn't say this is a traditional Maldivian island as we have experienced before, especially if you prefer a quiet location. Ifuru is very modern with more entertainment (even though it is the same) each evening with a lot of people gathering in the same areas. 

We probably wouldn't return as there are so many other islands to explore but we did have a wonderful holiday here.

Wonderful holiday with honest review

We travelled to Ifuru for a week as part of a 2 stop trip to celebrate my husband and my landmark birthdays and our anniversary. Before we set off I had been in touch with the team to ensure my husband would have the experience I hoped for. This was a bit of a risk as he hates being in the spotlight, but he is a picky eater and would have been very unhappy had he not been able to eat well. I have to say the Ifuru team were absolutely fantastic. I had supplied a list of my husband’s favourite foods and they kept cropping up on the menu!  There was also a bottle of sparkling wine in our room on arrival and we had the most beautiful towel designs and celebratory art to greet us on our return to the room of an evening.

We had been given the most distant beach pool villa, which was ideal as it made for a delightful stroll down the beach in the evenings and we definitely benefited from the quietness of the location. There were occasional weddings not too far from us but the music was neither loud nor intrusive.

The villa was very well air conditioned and had an amazing partly outside bathroom that felt very special and tropical- with a shower that reminded us of a waterfall.

The minibar was generally kept stocked up and our room was cleaned twice daily by Thakara who was very attentive (despite an iguana’s best efforts to poop on the veranda every day!). The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable which was particularly appreciated as most mattresses other than my own give me back ache.

Early on, the mixologists and bar staff learned our favourite cocktails-Abdulla and Kuya made sure we never ran out!  My husband’s favourite cocktail (a ‘dark and stormy’ requires ginger ale which they did not have on the first day. However, amazingly despite it being a pretty small and distant island, the team managed to import some overnight! This kept my husband very happy and was clearly over and above any service we’ve had before and beyond any expectations we could have reasonably had. The team also managed to do all of this with absolute elegance - so my husband felt totally at ease throughout. 

The all stars seemed to all know we were celebrating, and on one occasion brought my husband some paneer paratha that had been made just for him whilst we were in the Social house buffet.

I had pre arranged a floating breakfast for us to celebrate and the team were very thoughtful as to what it would contain. However on the day it was derailed by a bird sadly dying in our pool (RIP). This was completely beyond anyone’s control but the team resolved it quickly, by removing the poor thing and chlorinating the pool again. We had the breakfast on the beach instead as the ocean was not calm enough to stop the drinks tipping over. Still however, Takesi the food and beverages manager ensured we had a flawless celebration still by providing delicious floating canapés as a special touch on our last day. 

Takesi seemed to make it his personal aim to ensure we fully enjoyed the time we spent at Ifuru. I love food and cook and bake a lot- and we are lucky to live in a part of London that is adorned with amazing restaurants. But the vegetable gyoza at the Waterfront, the A La Carte restaurant were THE BEST I’ve ever had and the strip loin was so succulent and delicious it almost melted in the mouth. The food at the Waterfront is out of this world and to top this off with a beautiful location takes some beating. It also never felt too busy or rushed on the 3 occasions we ate there which added to the ambience.

Our buddy was Choatey -he is a real credit to the team.  He is very knowledgeable; always positive and helpful. He pre booked all our restaurant meals and provided buggy rides to get us around at the drop of a hat. He also managed to get the floating canapés to us on our last day despite some significant time pressure.  He is always smiling and welcoming though in great demand.

There is a domestic airport on the island and so planes can be heard landing a few times a day, and it is not possible to walk all round the perimeter of the island. But this did not spoil our enjoyment. 

There is some amazing snorkelling to be had, towards the ‘secret spot’ there is coral quite close to the shore. Despite being a complete novice I managed to see an array of interesting and beautiful fish.

We took advantage of the laundry service, as our transfers by seaplane limited our luggage allowance which we also had to make last two weeks. This was very prompt and I really appreciated the expert ironing of a linen skirt.

All in all if you are celebrating an event or just want to feel truly attended to we recommend a visit to Ifuru- they have thought about every detail and we did not find any limits to their wish to give us the very best experience.

Simply sublime for a celebration that goes the extra mile

One beautiful place to visit, every member of staff are helpful, friendly and strives to make your stay the best they can. Huge shout to Kasun our villa attendant visited the villa twice a day to make sure we had a clean villa and towels. He always had a smile and lots of advice for us, nothing was too much trouble for him. Angel in The Social house was perfect, smiley, helpful and kept our glasses full. 

What was good....?

• The whole resort was spotless, even after the tropical downpours we had the next morning you wouldn't have thought we had any rain. 

• The villas are spacious, perfectly placed though a little far away if you're past numbers 310 but buggies are available 24/7 

• Food and drink is great, Social House (buffet style with live cooking) isn't like a cattle market it's relaxed, kept topped up with fresh food all the time and always something you like. Palm Grill is worth a visit at least once, the lamb is amazing but needs something like mash potato to accompany it.
The Waterfront is in another class, the food choice and service are amazing served with the ideal choice of wines. Perfect views of the ocean with the fish and sharks circling.
The beach is raked every morning to get rid of any debris from the water overnight, the crystal clear water allows you to see the array of fish and sea creatures with black tipped reef sharks swimming close to the edge but don't be afraid they don't bother you! 

Whats not so good?

• The cocktails aren't what we expect to see from a 5* resort, they seem impressive on the menu but really poorly made and don't really taste that well either. 
Drinks in Hubba Hubba bar every night was given incorrectly for us with usbhaving to return them and get what we asked for and alot of people mentioned this, last orders were at 11.30pm and chucked out at midnight.

• The entertainment is extremely poor with the same replayed several times between the Beach Club and Hubba Hubba bar, we soon got bored of this  ( we understand that its limited as the staff live on the island but an entertainment team is needed to ensure a bit of variety) and if it wasn't for the people we met we would have been back in the villa by 10.30 most nights. 

• The biggest thing that we didn't like was our buddy, Suaid was there via WhatsApp but we saw him twice the week we was there and he didnt look happy at anytime, when it was time to leave he put us on the buggy to the airport without saying goodbye and unlike other buddies didn't make the effort to wave off his guests as we went through to the departure lounge for wait to Malè. Maybe it was because we didn't tip him on our arrival but he would have got one as we left had he made more effort (hope he reads this so he knows that it's not what you do but how you do it) 

The Beach Club is the perfect place to chill in the afternoon, watch the waterspouts whilst having a drink and a snack, it's a shame it closes at 6 and isn't open later into the night with a beach party at least one night. 

•The excursions, water sports and Spa are overpriced in our and other guests opinion, if they were more reasonable they would be used more I'm sure.

Overall, we loved the island, the resort and the staff. We'd definitely revisit but before we do we'd check on the entertainment and cocktails before deciding. 

We was told that over water villas are due to be built soon along with an underwater restaurant, we saw evidence up near the marina but didn't bother anyone.

Great place, some things need addressing

We stayed on this beautiful island in February, we have previously stayed at Riu palace in the Maldives. we had a villa with a pool which was so nice, it was quiet a walk to the pool and bar but it was really nice when sunbathing outside our room to be the only ones around, our room attendant Tharaka was great, he cleaned our room once a day and then came and tidied it again on an evening. 
You can use the app to request things which was handy, we requested an ironing board and iron and within 10 minutes it was brought to us which was very impressive. 
The buffet was really good, had lots to choose from, the waterfront restaurant was fantastic, the food was 5* as well as the service along with it being stunning inside and a beautiful view , I’d recommend paying the extra $30pp to do the Teppanyaki restaurant, it was amazing, it was very personal as there is only 8 of you and Nipun the chef put on a fantastic show whilst cooking delicious food. 
Choatey was our buddy, he was absolutely fantastic, we were so glad we had him, he sorted everything out for us and was always there if we needed him. 
Would like to also thank Sumit for his great service in the daytime bringing us drinks all day while we relaxed on the beach and to Kevin in Hubba Hubba who was great and remembered our names which is always a nice touch. 
The wines were really good, lots of choice. 
The only negatives which we have is that the entertainment wasn’t the best, the fire shows were really good but very repetitive happening at least every other day and the singer was average, also the choice of music was awful quiet often, this is one thing that RIU palace done better that we missed, they had a fabulous singer/band, they were much more classy on an evening than Ifuru, it also didn’t help that there were very large groups of a certain nationality who would massively lower the tone, grabbing all the seating and putting it together leaving not a lot for other people and being very loud banging their feet and clapping their hands to the songs making it feel like we were staying in Benidorm sometimes, this also happened in the daytime when there was a group of around 20 who were taking pictures/videos being very loud and telling people who were ‘in the way’ of their photos/videos to move, very rude and inconsiderate of people who want to relax having to listen to it for hours and have every right to be wherever they want to be. 
I understand who books to stay is out of the control of Ifuru which is why I haven’t marked them down for it but because of this reason it would probably put us off returning. 
Finally a thank you to Marcel the manager who was lovely and always around and came to chat to us, we really did love the island.
