An absolutely amazing location with an almost perfect holiday in every way.

Pros:
Amazing beaches of course

Gentle waters lapping shore and shallow beach very far out on North side main beach.
Water temperate like walking into a bath, it's so warm you can stay in the sea all day and not get cold.

Negatives:
Mosquitos
Private island other than the main section they drop you off at has quite a bit of litter washed up.
Some sections of beach have a lot of dead coral which can be sharp.
South side of the island also gentle lapping waters but gets more waves in unsettled weather and water gets deep relatively quickly compared to North side main beach.

A wonderful 2 weeks spent at the resort and a few callouts to some of the wonderful staff we met during our stay. Ximena, Asaf, Chef Mutu, Sanal, Ari, Abby, Jezzika, Mavluda, Sanghit, Neng, Dewi, Nasheeth, Yashu and Gerryd but many others made our stay unforgettable and simply the single best relaxation holiday we've ever been on. We booked full board but were upgraded to All inclusive which I think was an offer they were running on BA holidays when we booked.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom beach pool villa (2 adults and our eldest 15 year old in the 2nd bedroom) and were on the south side of the island. The big pro of this is that most of the time on the south side, we were the only people on the beach, despite the resort being at about 90% occupancy. It's understandable why as the best beach is on the north side in front of the main pool and Velaa restaurant. This is the beach which is very shallow out quite far, the water is calm most of the time, the seaweed is cleaned from the beach repeatedly throughout the day and I suspect a lot of the dead coral is removed from this section as it's almost pure sand but to be honest the south side is also wonderful although the waters can get a bit choppier when the weather is unsettled (maybe 4 or 5 days out of the 2 weeks in the afternoon). The south side and north side away from the main beach also get deeper a quicker (although they then get shallow again out to the reefs) and there is a lot more dead coral to pick your way through barefoot.

We did several added extras:

Picnic on bodufinolhu (their private island) which was an amazing Robinson Crusoe type experience except they leave you with a mobile phone that has signal in the event of an emergency. The boat takes less than 10 mins to get there from Thilamaafushi (it's the next island over). Pure sand shores, nice big cool box with drinks and food, they setup sun loungers, umbrella's, table and chairs and picnic blanket for you. Good experience although would be nicer to have longer than the 3 hours you get the island for. Also as noted above, quite a lot of washed up litter when we walked around the island to the section other than where you get dropped off and the picnic setup which was sad to see.

Spa, multiple massages and nail treatments. All very good. When they're not busy they occasionally walk around the breakfast restaurant offering a discount for bookings that day.

Teppenyaki dinner: A typically excellent multi-course extravaganza with michelin star grade food.

All you can eat sushi/sashimi dinner. Does what it says on the tin! (Albeit with a more limited fish selection than you get in many sushi restaurants but the staples are there)

Beach BBQ dinner. Great good, unlimited lobster, etc.

Sea life:

Baby black tip sharks swim up to the shoreline, large fish even in shallow waters. Don't really need to dive, but available from the resort of course, can see pretty much everything snorkelling. We saw eagle rays, stingrays, feather tail rays, triggerfish, giant clams, tons of living coral, guitarfish, turtles, pufferfish, lots of crabs/hermit crabs ofc, trevally, fusilier's, surgeonfish, grouper, sergeant major, damsels and tons more I can't remember all just snorkelling from the beach and to the house reef. Collected lots of shells to take photos of but left them of course since illegal to take.

Weather was I suspect as good as it could've been. We had probably 3 days which had a bit of rain (although generally finished within an hour). One absolutely amazing storm at night with full on tropical thunder/lightning. We lost power in one half of the villa during this storm and they came out and reset the breaker and gave us a fruit basket the next day with a written apology which was ridiculous given it wasn't their fault!

Overall a wonderful experience and we'll definitely return. Staff are wonderful and extremely friendly, worked out after speaking with some staff that even at almost full occupancy the staff to guest ratio is about 1.4 staff per guest. Many people we spoke to were multiple time visitors with many people even coming from the US and taking 25 - 30 hours and 3 flights to get there. When I asked them if they'd not rather get to the south pacific like bora bora etc they all replied that they'd been there and this resort was better (with most of them having been to multiple resorts in the Maldives).

Absolutely stonking location!

So we are heading back to our favourite resort in the Maldives this next month to celebrate a big birthday! This will be our 7th time to this resort which in itself will explain how fantastic this place is. By far the best attraction apart from anything else is most definitely every single staff member who works there. From the guys who tirelessly but happily remove any seaweed on the beach each morning to the maintenance staff who are happy to help with any problems.
We were last here in October where from the minute the sea plane landed to the minute we took off again the staff were on hand to help with anything to make our stay as enjoyable as  always with genuine big smiles on their faces. Nothing is ever  too much trouble.
Thomas the general manager runs the resort like a dream. He very kindly upgraded us due to my husband s elite status and was always on hand for any queries or questions.  
Special thanks always to Jaya who we are very fond of and have known for a number of years now. She always makes sure our stay is a memorable one.
The rooms are beautiful, light and airy with of course the most stunning views. We stay in the overwater villas as we love to snorkel from the room. The mini bars are packed with goodies so if you wish to relax in your room all day you can.
There are several restaurants to choose from but you will start your day at turquoise. The breakfast there is delightful with everything you could possibly dream of. And the most amazing coffees and pastries. This is also open in the evening for amazing buffets which gives you a huge variety of delicious food. Special thanks to Isha, Amir, Akbar, Ali baba, Supun, Yusuf,Leeko, Nasheeth, Nazim Erma, and many others.
Another  restaurant available is Riviera which is open for lunch and dinner. This serves amazing tapas type foods. Quantities are huge and so very tasty. Our huge Heartfelt thanks here are to Faith, Rishab,Lita, Madhuri,Ari and the rest of the team. They are all brilliant!
Velaa is great for a lunch by the pool or beach. They team here are also fabulous.
Our extra special thanks goes out to Gerryd and Choris who came to see us at breakfast every day to see how our trip is  going and if there’s anything they can do for us to make our experience better. They know our preferences and our particular drinks are always waiting for us as we arrive to lunch/dinner like magic. As well as any dietary or meal requests. Again above and beyond with their infectious smiles that put big smiles back on our faces ready to embrace another day in paradise!
The beach and reef are stunning and the snorkelling is second to none.
You must try the different jet ski excursions. We did the dolphin trip last time and literally saw 100s and 100s of dolphins up close. It was magical.
The sunset cruise is another way to see the dolphins. You’re on a big boat with a glass of Prosecco…..bliss!
If you have children the kid club is just amazing! They do different activities every hour of every day and are so interactive. There is always something for everyone of any age. My daughter is 10 nearly 11 and growing out of kids clubs but absolutely loves this one. We struggle to get her out. Sandy, Torsa and team are angels and run the kids club with love and fun in mind.
If you fancy a workout then the gym is great and runs several running clubs, yoga and exercise sessions throughout the day although usually in the morning which sets you up for the day. Raj and Hari are always present and help you with technique etc, its like having your own PT. Thankyou.
Raj also runs the spa which is a must. We had a massage looking through the glass floor at the vibrant marine life. Perfect relaxation.
All in all we simply cannot fault Le meridien. The staff, the reef, the beach, the rooms and the food which is simply delicious are all excellent.
With this in mind I can’t finish this review without thanking all the fabulous chefs. There are many so forgive me for not remembering all names but thanks to the amazing Chef Asaf and chef Devin who tailor made some amazing dishes for us ( we love spicy!). Not forgetting chef Sanchit and chef Buthu and all the rest of the amazing team. We cannot thankyou all enough. We can’t wait to see you all again soon. It really is like coming home to a big happy family which keeps getting better and better.

7th stay and can’t wait to return to this perfect resort!

If you are researching which Maldivian resort to choose for your visit to the Maldives, look no further than the Le Meridien Maldives (LMM). In the last 12 years, we've visited the Maldives every year, and stayed at other luxury Maldivian resorts, such as the St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria, Park Hyatt, Conrad, Hilton, and Radisson Blu. 

The LMM is, and will continue to be our favorite. This is the last night of our 3rd visit (an extended stay), and we are already making plans for our return visit next year.

Before getting into details you might not have time to read, we'll give a quick rundown of reasons why this is our Maldivian resort of choice:
(1) House reef: heathiest and most vibrant sea life - large and small animals encountered daily during our morning snorkel sessions.
(2) Service: from management to maintenance staff, we experience genuinely friendly hospitality. Team members strive to meet guest needs. Perhaps the only thing they can't deliver is to change the weather.
(3) Food & Beverage: plenty of outlets and menu options to choose from; extensive variety of meal plans to suit your needs; all your dietary requirements are remembered across outlets (and across multiple years of repeat visits) and accommodated creatively and deliciously.

Bonus bullet points before you go :D
(1) If you love pastries, the LMM has the best (compared to all the other Maldivian resorts we have been to). I asked about the secret to keeping the croissants crispy, given the Maldivian humidity, but never got a completely satisfactory answer. So, just dig in and try them all!
(2) If you are vegetarian/vegan or have other dietary restrictions, seek out Chef Devin at Turquoise. He and his team will take great care of you, wherever you choose to dine.

Management/Staff Retention
At other resorts we've repeatedly visited in the Maldives, employee turnover seemed high, which is normal, as people move to competitors for better positions. We feel that the LMM has the highest number of employees who've stayed since the pre-opening of the resort about 5 years ago. Employees, in general, seem happy, and enjoy working with their teammates. Our guess is that resort executive management cares about the employees, who, in turn, make guests happy. For us, one of the main reasons why we keep coming back is to see the long-time employees who welcomed us into their family with open arms. The care is genuine here.

Snorkel
In our opinion, the best time to snorkel the house reef is at 7am - generally speaking, the water is calm (tide is usually low), and the animals are feeding at that time. The sea grass area near the line of buoys in the middle of the house reef is where the sea turtles are.  We love the fact that breakfast at the LMM stays open until 11am, which gives us enough time to clean up after snorkeling for a scrumptious breakfast. 

Seamless Experience
The LMM doesn't operate on an island-host model. The whole front office team shares the responsibility of taking care of guest requests. During our stay this time, we had 4 friends and family joining us for part of the time. They were mostly 70+-year-old seniors, who had concerns about traveling on their own. All their worries didn't materialize, as the LMM teams in Male and here on the island made it super easy from welcome to farewell. Everyone had a great time enjoying themselves, and didn't have to worry about a thing.

Activities
The LMM has the most complimentary activities offered daily, ranging from sunrise/sunset yoga, fitness classes, dances, pool parties, live music, live DJ, outdoor cinemas, karaoke night, etc. You can always find something on the weekly schedule, and won't be bored.

The Special People of the LMM
The employees at the resort is what makes the LMM so special. Other resorts always try to lure them away, but many of them choose to stay. We want to take this opportunity to publicly express our appreciation for their outstanding contributions to ensuring we have the most memorable time at our 2nd home in the Maldives away from home. (Many of them started at the LMM during the pre-opening of the resort.)
- Choris, the Food & Beverage Manager, who was super caring and always one step ahead to anticipate all our needs and to ensure we have the most wonderful stay.
- Chef Devin and Chef Buthu, along with their team (Rahul, Nikki, Subam, Suraj, Robert, Izam, Miko, among many others) created nutritious, healthy, and beautiful vegetarian dishes daily. There was never any repetition, unless we made a special request. (Try the dumplings at breakfast made by Subam in house!)
- Azzam, the Food & Beverage director, who checked in on us daily and worked his magic behind the scene to ensure that we'd enjoy our time at the various outlets.
- Akbar and Supun, along with their team at Turquoise (Aapaa, Abby, Jezzika, Nazim, Nasheeth, Miraah, Maha, Erma, Yusuf, Leeko, and many others), embraced us as family from the moment we arrived. Special thanks to this team for taking great care of our other 4 family and friends who visited also.
- Gerryd and Lita, restaurant managers of Velaa and Riviera, who went above and beyond to make us and our other family members feel welcome and cared for.
- Sanal, the in-house master coffee artist/barista - ask him for his daily specials or your usual go-to coffee drinks - you won't be disappointed!
- Shadhey, our housekeeper - he observes what we use in the villa and refills without us having to ask him - in short, the best housekeeper we've had in the last 12 years in the Maldives. A shout-out to his colleague who filled in on Shadhey's day off and the assistant executive housekeeper, Azad, for going the extra mile to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction.
- Jaya, the front office manager, along with her team (Puja, Jennifer, and many others), took up the challenge of allocating 3 villas next to one another ahead of time, despite full occupancy. 
- Tashi, the fantastic resident yoga instructor, and Hari and Rupesh, the resort fitness/activity gurus, under the leadership of Raj, the recreation manager, led so many fun activities that we kept going back to.
- Pastry Chef Sanchit, along with his team (Dilina, and a few others), not only create the most delicious baked goods, but also win the award for the sweetest smiles.
- Resort senior management team - GM Thomas, Director of Rooms Nafiu, and Executive Director of Food & Beverage Chef Asaf do a fantastic job of leading and uniting the various teams/departments to ensure employee satisfaction, which results directly in customer satisfaction.

I could keep going with all the wonderful things about the LMM and the people who make the LMM such a special place, but will stop here to allow you to discover yourself what the LMM is all about during your own visit.

One last thing - did I mention that the LMM had the best pastries and staff in the Maldives?!

Better than EVER - This Resort Should Be Your First Choice for a Maldivian Vacation!

Absolutely the best stay, service and special touches for our 20th anniversary!  The team of this resort is the best in the way they made us feel! Their communication before we arrived until the last pics at the seaplane departure was second to none. Service and creating special memories is in the resort DNA. The food & service is outstanding with Turquoise for breakfast buffet including dim sum, soup har snd Indian specialties plus full American breakfast items. You’ll need it to spend all morning snorkeling on the fabulous house reef filled with colorful fish, rays, turtles, & reef sharks. We chose the food & beverage all inclusive plan, and they discount the plan for bonvoy members. Lunches and dinners at each restaurant were fabulous from Velaa grill, Japanese, and Riviera-Tapas.  We loved Gambas, flatbreads, watermelon salads, filet, reef fish, and amazing desserts especially the lemon tart, Carmel tart, and guava sorbets. Craft Cocktails and Cava were so refreshing after snorkeling. The overwater bungalow with a pool was perfect with gorgeous sunsets. We splurged on the private sunset dinner - unforgettable!  The onsite dive center scheduled a private - search for manta ray trip worth every cent. Seeing the graceful manta rays circling reefs about 30 minutes from the resort by speed boat was a huge bonus to an already unbelievable trip. Spa services with glass opening in floor while enjoying a massage, very unique and so beautiful. If you are planning a Maldives trip, look no further than Le Meridien!
