Very friendly staff but inflexible management

Review by Indranil2u London, United Kingdom

We stayed here for 4 nights in the garden facing rooms. The good things first. This resort is located in a small island in Baa Atoll and is very well kept and beautiful...

Full points to the gardener and the staff who maintain the green space in the island. The food in the main restaurant (buffet meals) was very good and lot of variety. They keep the non-adventurous western guests in mind for the food and give them lot of choices so they feel at home :) The staff on ground is super friendly; although I cannot say the same for management. The management is mostly there to make money and is very inflexible to any requests you have that is not in their rule book. The island is very scenic, lots of instagram opportunities. The waters around has very good snorkelling opportunities - sea life is plentiful and you can spot a lot of exotic creatures. The area is full of baby black tip reef sharks - please do not be alarmed as they are very harmless, cute and run away from humans.

I would recommend only going here all inclusive or they would rip you off for every little thing. Food and drink prices are astronomical and every little bit of "extra" service that you ask for costs a lot of "extra" money. The day trips are a complete rip off too. I would recommend to go stay 4-5 days in a guest house in a local island nearby and do your day trips from there at 1/3 the price. Once you are in the island you are stuck with their products and their prices - you have no other option. Their airport transfer service is also very expensive - it is not very fair to charge customer with a huge markup. Arrange your own transfer if you can.

Our little paradise

Review by Voyageur2201 Paris, France

What can I say? Everything was perfect! From the warm welcome of the staff the first day to the last day!!! It was a long trip ( 3 planes and 1 boat) but it was really worth it. The island is so beautiful, we spent our days swimming and snorkeling in crystal waters, we saw sharks, stingrays, turtles, hundreds of colorful fishes. Better take shoes to go in the water...

There are a few excursions and water activities to do (we went to a dessert island for a few hours and it was amazing) and you can also play tennis or badminton or just relax and do nothing and enjoy the views. We also tried the free diving lesson in the pool but we did not have time to have the experience in the sea. Thank you to diving team for their kindness. We were lucky and there were not a lot of people so sometimes we were alone on the beach or in the water. Our beach villa was large and comfortable, we had everything we needed and we loved the open shower, you could see the sky and the palm trees while taking your shower! There were mosquitos but if you take mosquito repellent and a cream for bites, should be fine. We had the all inclusive package. We took breakfast, lunch and dinner at the main restaurant. They assign you a table and a waiter the first day and you keep them for the whole stay. The food was very good and diversified. You could always find something to eat, from regular pasta to exotic dishes, grilled fish, meats, different kind of salads. Breakfast was delicious. We had also a snack at 4pm (fruits, little sandwiches, cakes) and the cocktails were very good too. It is a shame the prices are quite high for the meals in the other restaurant. If prices had been cheaper, we could have tried the sea food menu or the lobster menu.

We also tried the spa. We had a family afternoon spa and we had a great time. The spa is very nice and once you are inside you could think you are somewhere else!!! We really enjoyed the massages and the jacuzzi!!!! Thank you to all the staff of the spa for their kindness and sense of humor.

I want to thank all the staff for their kindness but specially Shamil who took care of us during our stay, Dipendra, our cleaning boy, Libin, our favorite chef and his delicious grilled fish, Danutska and his all kinds of pasta, Kowsar, the papaya chef and our waiter Abdulla. We had a great vacation! I recommend this hotel and we will surely come back in the future.

This was a superb stay. This Island was amazing, it had everything we needed. The staff were super beautiful attentive people, Naseer, our waiter, our host Ahmed and our housekeeping boy Stefaan looked after us so well...

Everyone was super friendly no matter who they were. Our room was immaculate. The food was of high standard, always fresh and all our needs were catered for. Highly recommend this Island.

Seconds time on this Island.

Review by boine2017 Horubadhoo Island

The same island and the same house for a second time. The differences were:

  1. The axess to the beach was very difficult...

The sand gone and the third sunbed was used to have axess. Heard that waves have been high but our house and a couple of houses beside us had the same problem. All were disappointed. 2. The music in the bar was extremely high/loud. The last 30 minutes in the restaurant had the same "music". Why not start this "bumpa-bumpa" on 22 o'clock?

Thanks to Abdullah in the restaurant for perfect service. Also thanks to Fauzan for perfect job in and outside the room.

Do not think we will visit a third time.

Holiday worth waiting for

Review by Saira M Oxford, United Kingdom

I revisited the Royal island and Spa again this year 2020 and it was well worth the wait. The staff were excellent as always, they gave me the same room from last year, it was lovely clean and comfortable. The food was delicious as always and they value visitors who come again a lot here...

I would recommend the resort to anyone visiting the Maldives and I am sure like me you will come again time after time 🙂
